      @thetragicyouth 2 роки тому

      @@wtc175 OP said his voice was "as clear" - didnt say he was hitting the same notes. In any case Al Stewart's voice sounds a lot better than McCartney, Brian Wilson or Elton John.

    • @dirigentmaarten9381
      @dirigentmaarten9381 2 роки тому +1

      @@wtc175 True. I saw Al Stewart performing through the years. I respect him for his beautiful songs, and because he is a kind and optimistic person. But his singing is definitely not what it was. Why not be honest about that. Although the song is tuned down 1/2 tone, he avoids the higher parts and does some Mark Knopfler-like sing/talk parts instead. Is he to blame for that at his age? No, he isn't. But he could have chosen another way: tune the song a few more steps down an sing a lower version with the original melodic structure, fitting his present voice.
      Apart from that: his musicians are technically good, but they don't seem to be able to give the song the right atmosphere, (my opinion).
      There are a lot of musicians of Stewart's generation still active, and I like that. But we don't have to be critic-less all the time, do we?

      @@ПавелСнегов-ю7в Likely because of where you live. Glad you finally heard it, this is as much a classic as Highway To Heaven, American Pie, or Hotel California.

    Gawd, AL Stewart wrote BEAUTIFUL tunes and melodies.
    Should've gotten SO much more credit.

    I saw the "Cat" tour in 1978 in the BJCC Concert Hall (smaller venue w/ superior acoustics in the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center complex). It was an awesome concert. Still listening to Al in 2022. I need me some Electric Los Angeles Sunset!

    Al sounds as great now as he did back in the 70’s. He has a great band of musicians too.

    Album of the year, 1976. While in my freshman college that year, one of my roommates in the dorm introduced me to some of his earlier LPs (remember those?? ;) ) Modern Times - I < almost > prefer that album to TYOTC.
