  • This tutorial video is an overview of the GeoVision VMS software.
    VMS 17 is a full featured video management software and is free for up to 32 GeoVision IP Cameras. Users can pay a one time fee to upgrade to VMS Pro for a total of 64 channels of viewing and recording. Users can also pay a one time fee for each third-party IP camera (ONVIF compliant) they would like to add to the GeoVision VMS.

    VMS 18 is a paid version video management software that has the same look and feel of the VMS 17 but it offers up to 16 channels of People & Vehicle Detection based recording. This enhances the monitoring experience by filtering out false motion events and only recording on true people and vehicle activity.

    i have a bunch of old security footage .avi files that do not appear to open on Windows under traditional means like any standard media player application....do i have to acquire this weird camera software in order to view those files?

      Hello. This is going to depend on what option was selected when the user saved the video. If they did not click the correction option, it won't play back in a Windows Media Player or VLC.
      It may be a good idea for you to go to your NVR or your remote viewing software and do the Save as AVI again with the procedure shown on the video links below.
      Save as AVI in the VMS software on the actual recorder itself:

    I had a problem where the motion footage timeline disappeared and could not get it back. When I clicked the arrow up button I could see the footage timeline on a different window but could not play footage? I got the same button restore but it was still missing in timeline. I went back old school version out of frustration of the complexities of vms.

      Hello - I have seen this happen to one customer before. It ended up being a corrupted install of the VMS but we were able to easily fix it. Try to find the install utility for the VMS and then just run it again. Once you run it, the setup wizard will prompt you with a window that says something like "Restore/Reinstall" (I believe it will be the default bubble that is selected). Just make sure that is selected, hit next through the prompts and finish the "install". If that doesn't fix it, I would suggest to do a full uninstall of the VMS and then reinstall it from scratch.     Is this a central server/private cloud or do we need one dedicated to each facility?

      The VMS software runs on a Windows based machine at the facility where the cameras are installed. There is a free remote viewing client application called Edge Recording Manager that a customer can use to view from their desktop/laptop. We also have a free cloud portal called GV-Cloud where you can point your VMS to the GV-Cloud website so a customer can remotely view live video and video recorded to the VMS machine through a web browser.

    My server is online and can ping from operator but cant open one server in operator showing unable to connect

    Is this vms universal? Compatible with dahua nvr?

      GeoVision's VMS can be loaded on any Windows based system. If your Dahua NVR runs Windows OS, you can install VMS on it.

    Do they make the VMS that can run on an IPAD Mini 6 (2021)???

      Hi K.K. Our VMS is not built to run on an iPad. It is too powerful and resource intensive for that. We do however have a free mobile/tablet app called GV-Eye which allows you to view live and playback video.
