I was there in 2014. It was the best biker experience I have ever had. The mileage was tough 7,200km in 11 days. Started in Oslo drove up through Sweden, Finland the Tri international border (Norway Finland Russia) near Kirkenes. On up to Nordkapp. Then south traveling down the beautiful west coast. Taking in Tromso, Lofoten Islands, Geirangerfjord, Bergen, Preikestolen and then back to Oslo. Please don't let the expensive reputation put you off. All in all It was a cheap holiday. We mostly camped and sometimes used a cabin. Petrol was not crazy maybe a bit higher then home (Ireland) but not much. Shop in supermarkets mentioned. The only thing we noticed and to watch out for is most places closes at 9pm. Most importantly no access to campsites if you are caught late getting to a destination. Wild camping may not always be an option. As for alcohol, we only had a drink in the last night in Oslo. Nothing remarkable cost wise. WORD OF WARNING! One of our group was done for speeding in Bergen by an unmarked police car (all blacked out Audi). He got fined 7,800nok (743e). It was our second last day and a bit of a bummer to the end of the holiday. We were all well warned about strict traffic laws and expensive speeding fines. It is difficult to get from Ireland to mainland Europe, for time saving we used a company where they took our bikes a week before, with all the luggage to Oslo. So bikes were delivered and ready to go when we arrived. We flew from Dublin to Oslo (Rigg) with just biker gear and helmet. It saved about 7-8 days of traveling
If campsites are "closed" or no one at the reception, you can find yourself a spot for tent and just talk with them the next day. If you need to rent a cabin it may be worse. But you can always call in early and book a place and let them stick the key in the door for you :-) Yes, speeding in Norway are not recommended :-P

Great info Thomas, thanks for making this video. As a norwegian I might take the opportunity to add a couple of things: 1. One can camp for free in Norway. Unlike most other countries everybody is allowed to camp almost everywhere, but not on farmed land and minimum 100-150 meters away from nearest inhabited house. 2. Unlike most other countries around the world most norwegian shops, grocery shops, supermarkeds, farmacies, hardware stores, clothing stores etc etc are closed on sundays. There are a few exceptions from this but in general most shops are closed on sundays. Thus do your shopping monday to saturday...

Norway is a very beautiful country . Interesting video too, well done .
Thank you Eric... well, I was 1 year old when you head out on that trip. Crazy how time flies. The way up to North-Cape can be long and boring, for me, I always stick to to longest road one of the ways. Cheers mate, glad you liked it. 👏🏻

We have made Nordkapp trip on motorbikes from Prague, few years ago. Norway is beautiful country with fantastic people. It still one of the best moto trip we have ever done and I am missing Norway so much. Only weather can be tricky, but we have had rain only for 5 days (in a row) and then +15C and sunshine! 🌞
Glad you had a great time here :-) Norway is truly a hidden gem, and i hope to show a little bit more of what Norway has to offer in the future. I'm glad to discover this channel! Never thought that there are mosquitoes in Norway 😁 I'm thinking to visit this country next year so your video it's very informative! Greetings from Romania!
Thank you mate :-) Glad you found it informativ. Ohh yes, the mosquitos can be a pain :-P When you visit Norway, feel free to send me a message if you need any tips. Ride safe
I have a perfect substance for scaring away all those little critters. Where i live we have also millions of those tiny and hardly visible mosquitos. My dad always did call them Jehova flies. Because if you would hit yourself on your right side of your face another couple of hundreds would attack you on your left en vica versa. Don't know if you have the same breed as we have in Holland but ours do not sting. They take little bites out of your skin and go dizzling in your ear. And when you want to try to sqeeze then with you finger they go futher and futher in your earcanal.😬 But what i have got works great but the stuff is also used by hunters to attrack boars.😇 Life is about making choices is it not?😂
Very interesting and useful video! Norway is a wonderful country; Norwegians are really polite, kind and respectful; no problems with police, alcohol, prices, but the mosquitos almost killed me in the north ... I can't wait to go back, for the third consecutive year!
Thank you 👏🏻 Norway is truly amazing in many ways. And yes, the mosquitos can be a really pain in some parts of the country. We can't wait for people to get back here, so hope to se open borders again soon. Cheers 🔥

Thank you for the video and I love your country! I traveled in Norway with a motorcycle during the summers of 2017 and 2018. It was absolutely majestic, constant jaw-dropping vistas, safe, and very good roads everywhere. One thing that I'd like to add is that even in July, the high mountain passes could get very cold and and you need to bring extra layers and wind/waterproof gloves.
Hello Peter, and thank you for the comment :-) Norway is amazing in so many ways. And yes, even at summer there can be alot of snow in the mountains and it can be really cold :-) Things like this is easy for us who live here to take for granted.
En great film, bra info, ungefär samma förutsättningar som i grannlandet ditt :-) I will for sure go summer 2021 if the virus dont mess it up completely. You cant drive away from it either, with smoke of rubber and gases..not with the hefty fines we have in our countrys :-) Tack för bra film

Very nice and informative video Thomas, good news about Nordkapp and ferries. I have a EasyGo Plus box that work in Denmark, Austria, Norway and other countries for my RV, good that ferries are included as well (worked at ferries between Denmark and Germany also since vefore). I found seafood very low cost at the stores so we ate more of those delicatesses last time in Norway. Gas are no more expensive than over here.
Thank you Mattias :-) Yeah, the Nordkapp fee is almost embarrassing. It's sickening that privat company's has been allowed to take charged for a piece of land that every citizen ownes. Yeah, the Autopass is good if you have a deal with them. 50% off the price but i dont know how it works for tourist, and if you can get a card that last the time you are here? The RV community may have much more information about this. Seafood are fresh and cheap in Norway. Same with some of the meat. You just need to know what to look for. I think gas/fuel are the same price in most part of Europe

Hello Thomas, the best product against mosquitos and black flikes is definitely citronnela oil, which can be bought in any pharmacy. Jjust put some on a bandana around your throut, some on your hans and in your hair and you'll be OK. In addition, keep a mosquikto net hat, that can be bought in most sporting goods stores and you can enjoy both nature and being outside, even in the summer. Good video with useful info!
That is a great tip! I need to try that here in sweden! I never seen so much mosquitos before! Everytime i stop my bike i’m swarmed! Takes the fun out of camping for sure
Thanx for this kind hints and sympathic "teaching". I.ve been in NOR in 2018 and it was by far the best trip I.ve ever done (except of British Columbia). Hello David. Glad you found it informativ. I know more about the AutoPass now. Or, they do so now under the covid-19... the ferry crew take a picture of your licenseplate on the ferry and you get a invoice some weeks later. adding up on the ferry trips you have taken. Cheers

I'm planing a trip to North Cape myself next year. Hope to get 3 weeks on the road here in Norway. Try to make some video about the whole journey with places to see, camp etc 👍🏻
that was interesting . I was already at nord cap but i will need to go again as i only had rain and very cold temperatures in july aug. so i need to explore norway a bit further. next time
Fantastic Thomas and I was wondering how your English was so good!! I would love to tour Norway on a motorbike but getting there would be a problem from Canada lol. You present yourself and Norway as a much quieter and slower pace life style than North America. I realise you are filming out in the countryside but your drone aerials close to towns does not show tons of cars etc. I kinda chuckled that you leave a camera on a tripod and then film yourself riding past it for a while and of course you would need to go back and pick it up but here I am afraid someone would quickly pull over and take it before you got back to where it was!!
Haha, thank you Mike 😇 It is a looong way from Canada, but I guess you guys have areas that looks similar to what we have in Norway? Hehe, I have never been to Canada myself, so I'm not sure how to compare, but here in Norway we are only about 5 million living here. So it is a large country with a lot of space. And that is one of the best things about living here to be honest 🙈 leave the camera behind here in Norway has never been a problem. I guess there are places in Europe I would be more worried 😉
Thanks for that great to know, took at trip to the arctic circle last year in the motorhome amazing country, and planning on taking the bike next trip.

Thomas. A question. In a couple of hours i will start driving to Norway. At nine a clock i will phone a local motordealer if it would be possible to change my tires for a more offroad orientated ones. I want to do some wildcamping also. For the first time i am taking a tent with me. Always have been using a hammock with an underquilt. But the wether is not so good i see and i want to stay maybe two days at the same location. Also took a normal sleepingbag instead of the mummy with down. What is your opinion at the moment? Should i take the sleepingbag system from Snugpack that i can also use in the winter or will a slightly better then normal sleeping do fine? Can it get cold at night? I prefer my more rectangle normal sleepingbag. What do you think? If the local dealer has not got the time to sqeeze me in for a tirechange i will go with my roadtires. Or would you also prefer a more offroad orientated tire for Norway when going a little bit of the tarmac? So two qeustions. - about the sleepingbag. - about the tires. Thx if you could quicly give me your opinion. It would be much appriciated.👍 And also i can't drive as hard with offroad tires.🤭🤭 Maybe a third question. Do people in Norway like if a foreigner takes some local strong drinks with him so they can tasted that kind of firewater ?
Alot of the camping sites in Norway dont have good options to pitch your hammock, so a tent is smart if you don't plan to wildcamp all the time. A 0 degree (comfort limit) sleeping bag is just fine in the summer here. You can experience poor and cold weather in the mountains. But just look at the weather forecast as you go and plan accordingly. If it's getting cold, camp near the sea 👍🏻 I don't know what "road" tires you have. you can ride most of the gravel roads in Norway with any tire as long as you go slow. But for best performance you should get at least a 50/50 tire if you want to do alot of gravel (in my opinion) To take with you some booze is always nice, and many appreciate that.
Great list, l think you cover it all. Nye tunnelen mellom strand og Stavanger åpnet i da.,fantastisk flott tunnel som er verdt en tur ,å jeg slipper ferje til jobb.
Congrats for this priceless and useful information. 1.- I'll have to say that no road toll charge for motorcycles was a huge surprise. I had the idea that motorcycles will pay road and bridge crossing toll. 2.- I'll myself get into trouble if i roam in the countryside? You see besides the TET (trans euro trail - offroad) i like to discover new enduro trails and also create new offroad trails. Solo riding. Its forbiden or a fine will be waiting for me in the norwegian border? Thanks.
Glad you found it useful mate. One of the many positive things with riding motorcycle in Norway. No Toll on the Normal roads. But keep in mind, there is some toll to be paid on some of the gravel roads around. You will find a sign or gate to pass with information where you need to pay. Some of them is automatic. (They take picture of you behind) No, you will not be in trouble if you roam the countryside, but riding in nature or on hiking paths is strictly forbidden. Gravel roads are fine (off-road) Fire roads and trail are a question about definition. You will be stoped and charged by the police on the sight, nothing will happened on the border. The odds for meeting police out in the Forrest or on remote gravel roads are another question. Like it will never happen 😂
Thanks for this video and the information, I went to visit my friend and his family last year by plane because I had limited days off of work. When I flew from Oslo to Trondheim, I was looking out the window for the entire flight and I have to say.... I immediately fell in love, gorgeous country and very nice, albeit a bit reserved people. If all goes to plan, I will be driving from Belgium to Norway in September and stay for about a month, going to put my bike on a trailer so I can bring more stuff since I will have to work remotely from time to time. Do you have any recommendations for routes or scenery around Trondheim and Stjørdal to ride with my bike? I would ask my friend but he probably won't know since he is that one Norwegian guy that doesn't like to go outside 😂
@@tshansen I would love to ride on gravel since I bought a CRF300 Rally but in Belgium there is hardly a non tarmac road you can ride legally 😊 My guess is that the gravel roads are doable with 80/20 tires? Otherwise I will throw on my knobbies before I leave 😎
Hahaha, we should switch one time, i really want to ride in your country as well mate 🤣🔥 it’s high on my bucket list, so hope one day i can manage to get away from til A4 life and travel much more
@@tshansen You've got me thinking mate. Look up remote moto in NZ. The most organised and comprehensive trip and adventure planning site on the globe. Races to Places couldn't speak highly enough about it when he visited NZ. Download gps data of all grades of adventure rides. You really peaked my interest with the facts needed to know about touring your country. Watch this space friend.
Many thanks for all the details. I just checked "AutoPASS for ferries" to benefit from a huge discount. You actually can register your motorcycle as well but you have to transfer 3.000 NOK upfront to your account. I'm not sure if this is really worth it when planning to ride to North Cape from Kristiansand all the way up through Norway (aside from E6), touch some of the Norwegian Tourist Routes and visit Lofotes via the ferry from Bodø. Maybe you or another Norwegian can judge and reply. Thanks, Bernd 💙💛🏁🤛🏼
Well... it depends on what route you take up to north cape. From Kristiansand to Ålesund there is 5 ferries... from Ålesund to Trondheim there is 3 ferries if you stick to the coast. And from Trondheim and all the way up north I think there is 7 new ferries if you want to ride all the way out to the coast. Yes, some of these can be avoided, but me personally would not spend more money on this than I had to. But if you try to avoid some of the ferries and ride some inland as well, you are probably better of without the deal.
Great video again! Keep them coming! Personally, my number eleven would be to always have your Credit Card and a few NOK in cash ready. Some of the best backcountry roads and trails are private property and require payment at automated toll stations.
eki_adv thank you ☺️ i’m going to make a separate video about TET and gravel roads in Norway, and shine a light on the wildcamping possiblitys and what not to do 👍🏻 glad you liked it

Was doing a roadtrip from Österbotten/Finland to Norway through Skiboth-Alta-North Cape and Kirkenes) this summer. And I swear, as soon as we crossed the border from Finland and entered Norway all the mosquitoes was gone. You may have the beautiful mountains and Fjords, but in Finland we have the mosquitoes..
Hahaha, yes... the myth says that Finland has huge mosquitoes, and much more of them. It may be true, i have just ridden in Finland once, so i'm not really familiar with the local stuff flying around 🤣
@@tshansen Myth is true ;) In case you decide to re-visit Finland I can recommend areas around Saimaa (4th largest lake in Europe) near Savonlinna and Lappeenranta. Was riding my Tenere 700 there this summer and enjoied it. Good combination of cities and nature.
@@ThePPTP2 Thank you, that is some good advice. A guy reach out to me earlier this season and told me to search for "uimaranta" when i come to Finland again. yes i will be back and do the TET over there. Looks like you have some really beautiful places everyone should visit.
Great practical advice for travelling in this fantastic country. Expensive alcohol and low speed limits, but that's easily made up for by great people and a beautiful, world class country. The rest isn't significantly more expensive than northern Europe. Such a shame the UK/Norway ferries have stopped! Now a huge, dull dogleg around the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. I've heard that speaking German without asking if it's ok can cause some resentment (also in Sweden)!
Thank you sir. Yes, people find some stuff more important that other. I know alot of people base their travels around cheap alcohol, and I think that is a shame. But who am I to judge 🤣 Yeah, I heard some rumours about the Newcastle ferry would start up again to Hirtshals after Brexit, but not sure where that is going. Most people in Norway are used to other languages. So if you meet a Norwegian and start talking on another language he will help you with sign language. Some people will go away because they have poor language skills. But most don't mind 👍🏻
I agree. But just that. Cafes, restaurants and food at gas stations is often what drives visitors away. Price wise! To pay 40 NOK for a bad cup of coffee on a ferry is just WILD.
@@psvennevig That is so true! but i think it's like this in every country in Europe. I hope to make a video at the end of next season about what, and where to eat when on the road in Norway. The cheap way of spending your time here. There are so many people that are just going to buy a icecream, coffe or small sandwich and the price for that in the "normal" tourist places are robbery. I'm embarrassed by the greed some the Norwegian shop's share in tourist season.
Norway have the alcohol laws that Sweden had in the 70's with no low alcohol beer (3,5% or below) on Sundays and they stop selling before the store closes. Today you can buy it 24/7.
Great info, I was especially curious on the procedure when boarding the ferries, thank you very much. Planning an adventure Bike tour of Norway in June 2020!
The little cabins that are available, do you have to provide your own bedding, sleeping bag & pillows? Are there facilities to shower, I presume toilets are in a separate building maybe with the showers, I don’t think the cabins have individual bathrooms? Are there cooking facilities for a very simple meal or making coffee? What is the official name of the cabins? I’m too old for camping and no “plumbing” in the wilderness. Any advice for the single traveller on a motorcycle? Do farms offer B&B rather like Italy? Norway’s reputation is that it is the most expensive country in Europe, even more so than Switzerland. I hope the salaries are good! On my bucket list. Many thanks, J
Well... normally you have 3 size cabins. the smaller ones only have beds, a cooking option and a refrigerator. No bathroom. The medium size ones offer two rooms and a bedroom (in general) with a toilet and shower. and more kitchen stuff. The biggest ones are large cabins with more then one bedroom and a big bathroom with shower, toilet, washing machine etc. (more like a small house) Most camping sites I have been to, offer beddings for a small fee. I always travel with my sleeping bag, and air pillow so I have never thought to much about it. There is no official name I think... it's more like small, medium or large cabin. Hope that was helpful for you? if there is any other questions I can answer for you, please let me know. Stay safe 🔥
@@tshansen Thank you very much for the information very helpful, carrying food on the bike is not very practical. Shame that M&S and Waitrose don’t have stores in Norway up to Nordkapp for their ready meals, this probably means nothing to you. There used to be a Norwegian Tourist Office in London, worth a visit but I assume that like most tourist information services, now on-line only. Norway is expensive and more so for the solo traveller. I wouldn’t mind the expense if I knew that I would enjoy good weather for the length of the holiday. It’s a huge gamble, but if weather is the priority, I should head south. I didn’t realise that the midges were as much of a problem in Norway as in Scotland, when you think about it, it’s logical. Sincere thanks once again, I hope not to bother you.
@@jeanjacques9980 Alot of the charm with Norway is the constant shifting weather, but yes... I share your views... it would be nice with more consistent weather in the summer. Great info Thomas, thanks for making this video. As a norwegian I might take the opportunity to add a couple of things:
Kurt Gøran Andersen i did skip the wildcamping part in this video because the subject is so popular i think i need to make a own video in just that subject when the season starts again! I tought Sunday was closed all around Europe? I did not know this, thank for that info mate
No, KrF is not a political party in most countries...
There are many Kiwis, Bunnpris and some REMA1000s that keep open on Sundays, but only a limited floor space and assortment.
@@northof-62 As I wrote above - there are a few exceptions from the sunday closing practise.
@@KurtGAndersen Yes quite a few actually.
I went to the Nord Cape July 1983 with my Goldwing 1100 and 2 other bikers .It was an amazing trip, 8800 km from Belgium ,Germany ,Denmark Sweden, Norway and back via Finland.I have plans to do it again ,but now more straight to the Nordcape and back.

So many places that are worth a visit :-) The weather can be a challenge sometimes, but if you plan your trip on the months that are lowest on rain, you can get lucky :-) Hope to see you back some time. Cheers
I'm glad to discover this channel! Never thought that there are mosquitoes in Norway 😁
I'm thinking to visit this country next year so your video it's very informative!
And when you want to try to sqeeze then with you finger they go futher and futher in your earcanal.😬
But what i have got works great but the stuff is also used by hunters to attrack boars.😇 Life is about making choices is it not?😂
Very interesting and useful video!
Cheers 🔥

Thank you for the effort producing this video. Hope to get my bike up there post covid lockdown.
You are welcome my friend. Hope you found it informative and that you will have a great trip here in Norway 🔥
En great film, bra info, ungefär samma förutsättningar som i grannlandet ditt :-)
I will for sure go summer 2021 if the virus dont mess it up completely. You cant drive away from it either, with smoke of rubber and gases..not with the hefty fines we have in our countrys :-)
Tack för bra film

Thomas.
It would be much appriciated.👍 And also i can't drive as hard with offroad tires.🤭🤭
Maybe a third question.
Thanks Thomas very informative. Well done
Thank you, Cheers :-D
Love to see Norway someday. Thanks alot :)

Glad you liked it :-) Happy New Year :-)
Congrats for this priceless and useful information.

Thomas Hansen yes you have given me a few ideas, thanks again!
There is a lot of great routes up in the area around Stjørdal and Trondheim, do you ride gravel or only tarmac?
@@tshansen I would love to ride on gravel since I bought a CRF300 Rally but in Belgium there is hardly a non tarmac road you can ride legally 😊
My guess is that the gravel roads are doable with 80/20 tires?

Sam Seoane sure thing 😉 glad you liked it
Was doing a roadtrip from Österbotten/Finland to Norway through Skiboth-Alta-North Cape and Kirkenes) this summer.
Thank you Thomas
You are welcome 🔥
Thanks för this Tips.I need die Tips hast Year on mal TET Bike Tour.
You are welcome my friend 🔥
Also, on the ferries you need to eat svele with coffee. It's almost expected!
Hahaha, that is true, how could i forget to mention that :-P The Svele is more famous than the brown cheese :-D
$4.54 cents USD isn't tooo bad. :)
When you can buy a bag of coffé (250g) for about 2euro it is insane to spend that amount of money on just coffé.
Norway have the alcohol laws that Sweden had in the 70's with no low alcohol beer (3,5% or below) on Sundays and they stop selling before the store closes. Today you can buy it 24/7.
Yeah, the rules and prices of alcohol in Norway are crazy and has no normal sense over it
Fantastic info, thank you.
Thank you, glad you liked it and found it informative 👏🏻
Great info, I was especially curious on the procedure when boarding the ferries, thank you very much. Planning an adventure Bike tour of Norway in June 2020!
Cobus Bekker glad you found it usefull. If you have any other question feel free to ask my :-)
Damn! Photo and content at level 10. Well done! /rob
Nomad Sweden 🇸🇪 thank you Rob 😂 i still behind you, but the game is changing every day! 🤪
Very helpful,thanks,👍
You are welcome mate 🔥👍🏻
But what do you find expensive here in Norway? except alcohol? Those damn mosquitos can drive a man insane up here. It has started for full here in the southern part. Not reach the North yet, but they will in the next week.
@@tshansen I know but it is miserable riding a bike in torrential rain hardly being able to see the road ahead and stopping at service stations to warm up and dry out, the voice of experience. It’s at times like that I wished I was in the car. It can’t pour down all day, everyday in Norway? I’ve known friends commenting that they enjoyed good weather when visiting, I’m just unlucky with weather. Maybe next year?
Thanks! Maybe some information about small gravel roads with payment in future?
Yeah, this movie are more "in general" I'm going back on the trail next season (mars) and will make something similar about the Trails, gravel roads and the different "rules" when riding on privat roads/gravelroads what to pay, how to pay, and good options on food, drinks and where to stack up on water and food :-)
