Cool vid, could have saved all the engine swap info for a seperate video and focused on just the carburetor info but either way good job 👍
@@squarebodyblake4464 for sure man, you do you. Maybe I'll do a video like yours for my 2022 update. Hopefully I'll have that new edelbrock in my hands soon so I can go through it. I can tune any holley but lets see how that edelbrock performs
@@squarebodyblake4464 Well, considering its exactly like a holley with minor differences, it should work well
Do yourself a favor and get rid of the msd coil packs. They suck.
@@squarebodyblake4464 Good to hear. I bought mine new and already replaced 6 of the 8 within 20,000 miles.
@@squarebodyblake4464 I replaced one the first thousand miles, the rest went out randomly. I've always ran msd products but these really let me down a didn't notice a improvement over the stock coils.
I'm a ford guy building a Fairmont. But i gotta tell ya, with the prices of ls engines right now, I'm leaning heavy on buying one. I've had a turbo 400 laying around forever not doing anything.
I'm gonna try and put a LS in my 83 Buick regal this summer. It used to have a stout little 383 in it but it finally kicked the bucket after almost 20 years. Got a speed shop built 700r4 transmission. 3:73 rear-end out of a grand national. All edelbrock and Hotchkiss suspension. Aluminum drive shaft. It's been sitting for 6 years. Had just had the interior redone, new vinyl top, all new brake lines and brakes. Cleaned and undercoated the whole bottom of the car. Then boom. Motor blew. I just haven't had the extra money to fix it. Crossing my fingers that I get her going this summer.
Very impressive and what a fantastic job of installing everything.
Man this was one of the most in depth and straight forwards breakdowns I've seen, awesome job man!
Really thorough rundown. Thanks! Considering doing just an LS motor swap and keeping my carb and original transmission.
I have an 81 step side the same exact color as yours with a 5.3 and 78mm turbo. These trucks are a riot. Your truck is extremely nice! Happy to find my trucks twin.
An excellent and thorough collection of info in video form. Thank you!
I'm going carbureted and have seen so many mixed reviews. This video definitely reassured me im doing the right thing 🤣
You are amazing. Very amazing, I mean very detailed an super amazing. Congratulations on your knowledge and very detailed explanation with out any hiccups.
Very detailed? Did you see the install? Super sloppy.
Beautiful set up! I just rebuilt and swapped the 5.3 in my 2005 suburban, so I have a spare 5.3 just sitting in my garage. I am thinking about rebuilding it and carbing it for some future project car.
Really clear concise information. Very cool
About to score an 85 shortbed.
Every time he starts up his truck it triggers an EMP blast lol
Exactly the video ive been searching for. Instant sub. Thanks man. Will check out your other videos after this one.
Yum... LS with the throttle response of a carb. Nice
This is my tipe of LS swap if I cant use a carburetor I'm not buying it good video buddy
i love your set up,,im doing the samething i got 1990 k5 blazer
Nice build, like the carb conversion
Sweet dude 👌 love the carb set up
That is a sweet set up 😎👍
Nice work, clean build
Wow that’s old new age technology 👍
Building the same truck lol. Excellent video!
Well done ! Great videos
Can you explain more about eliminating knock sensors
Why and how to make things work with out them
Definitely good content. Try popping off the connection at the blower motor resistor. It might be the brushes on the motor giving you the rf issue during start up. Secondly would be Alternator.
Great video, very informative!!
Awesome build. I love it
I put over 200000 miles on a carburetor engine with 0 problems ,it was a 78 Buick Regal Sport that the 3.8 turbo charge engine went bad,so the owner drop in a 1977 Pontiac 301 engine with a Quadrajet 2 bbl I purchased it,rebuilt the carb, and put 200000 miles on the car with 0 problems and it ran strong,I inspect the filter with every oil change,3000 miles keep it clean ,motor had 0 blow by ,pvc valve was check every 3000 ,replace when needed so none of that bad air was going down the throat of the carb, all factory hookups stay in place and I ran a can Berryman B12 in the tank around every 3000 miles to keep the fuel system clean and the carb filter was check every 6000 miles, was replace when needed,I had more problems with fuel injection vehicles than with carburetor vehicles
A few videos out there you can flash the stock computer to run only the ignition for free excluding the OBDLink dongle.
Awesome! Nice work man.
Sounds great but that trans needs a shift kit! A B & M shift improver kit is easy to install and works great.
If want run temp sensor just get you one of 98 ls1 3 pin with connector and use the green wire ,also since use th350 transmission dipstick doesn't hole to bolt down cause bolt dont use is for dipstick so have get the L bracket alot miss this ,I just did ls swap to my k10 with th350 built for 500 hp.. and runs like top but I went efi and I'm thinking swapping to carb...
VERY WELL DONE SIR, THANK YOU. AGREE 100%
You can actually still use a non baffled tank with EFI, you've just gotta be careful. I'm using the stock in-cab tank on a 71 C10 with a pump hung on a modified sending unit, and it works just fine. The only thing you have to be careful with is making sure you keep it above 1/4 of a tank and don't corner too hard to avoid fuel slosh. I could understand why this isn't everyone's jam, but in a pinch and for just the price of a pump and some fittings, you can keep EFI and the stock tank. The only reason I mention this is because some people may be under the impression that you need a baffled tank or you have to go carbed, when in reality you have more options. Really cool truck you've got!
i just subbed to your channel , on my channel me and my wife race and we swapped an lq9 into a 98 mustang using the msd 6014 .
bad ass truck and keep it up
Great job buddy!
that intro though....Hell Yeah!!!
I use -6 AN lines for power steering . Carb LS is easy to do easier then most think.
Beautiful truck man 👍
Lol if the video starts out with a burnout you know it’s a good one
Great video..hey what's that hose coming off your msd box where does it go to and what's it for
Thanks for the info, i want to do the same on my El Co
That's a nice C10
Great video definitely gained a Subscriber
Really informative!!! 👍🏽👍🏽💪🏽
Can u do a video of how u hooked up crank case ventilation since u have carb. I can see the catch can on there.
That’s real nice man!
Gonna be swapping my 87 r10 soon wish me luck
Fuel vent line is restriction you may be fine with carb low pressure. I had over pressure with fuel injection.
Nice work 👍🏽
Perfect vid!
Nice work 💪
Nice build, ever find out the part # for the steam port hose adapter? Thanks.
Great Video, could you help us with the steam port to rad hose fitting part number?
My reasons for paying close attention to this video are unique.
I'm building a Propane-powered LS using two Impco 425 mixers on a Holley dual four-barrel intake.
Why??? I have all the parts and I like to build stuff that's different.
Good job, I like your set up.
@@squarebodyblake4464 I had the exact same setup
@@squarebodyblake4464 yea thats always the deal, but once it's ballpark/almost there it's a breeze.
@@squarebodyblake4464 most def, mine ran great maybe a little too good. I have a couple videos if you wanted to see it
Sounds good little buddy if I ever do is Chevrolet I might contact you but I'm a Ford guy LOL W but them LS Motors are very impressive
I put a 5.3 Ls in my ranger I promise you it was a lot meaner and more reliable than the 302 I put in it but tbh it now has a 428fe edit 85 ranger mini truck
I have a carb 6.0 with summit ls 3702 cam in a monte carlo with 3400 stall 2004r trans and 373 gears. It feels good but I haven't played with the timing settings yet. After I get it out the paint shop I will tamper around with that. You make a lot of sense its so much unnecessary money being spent on ls swaps.
How that 200r holding up the all that power
@@yobill2537 so far so good. I'm not hard on it every day only when I drive. Lol
Nice build
Im debating on doing this to my 4x4. My only issue is im scared of buying a new wiring harness, which mine needs, and i need a new trans, and can't find one at all. I have the engine, just not sure if its any good sadly.
You now have 100 subs..... you're welcome
You got it dude. Square body chevy is my dream truck
Two questions. What color is the wire to hook the tach to out of the msd box ? Second does the factory map sensor stay if so hooked to vacuum line?
🎄 First time i see this ls swap👍🔥🔥🔥
I'm working on a swap too. I have a newer 2008 up block. Don't know where to use mechanical guage
I'm considering do this to my 74 C20
New subscriber 🔥🔥🔥
Gr3at video cuh cuh
GREAT SHIT U SHOULD HAVE A SHOP
Maybe I missed it, but what was your wide-open ignition timing curve? Similar to a conventional carbureted engine? Roughly 20 degrees at 2,000, 30 degrees at 3,000, topping out at 32-34 max?
Those TH350's are a very easy transmission to rebuild your self.
How so? Looking at Precision Transmission videos they dont look much easier than anything else of that era.
@@soldozer Well of that "era" I think the 904's/727's are the easiest to rebuild/reassemble, but that just depends on who ever you ask.
But compared to today's transmissions, the old 60's designs are fairly simple, I guess???
I rebuilt my first transmission, a TH350, when I was 17, but I had a pro there to give me some pointers as I went.
The best way I think to do them is to get a rebuild kit for it first. Then take them apart on a really long bench and just lay all the parts out on the bench exactly how they came out. Then just clean/rebuild each section, clean valve body, flush out converter if it can be flushed, or better yet, just replace it, and replace any worn-out/damaged parts with good ones.
And then reassemble the whole thing back together exactly how it came apart.
That's how I used to do em back in my day.
@@soldozer Once you build a few, they get easier.
@@soldozerit still takes know how but compared to other transmissions turbo 350 is leggos you can’t even find rebuild videos on most transmissions because even mechanics are like f$&@ that…. Buy a new one….
Not really
Are you just running one o2 sensor my headers are drilled for two didn't know if I needed two?
Good job
i love your truck..i have a 83gmc 5.3 can't get the fuel pressure and it back firing through elinbrock carb..can i call u..I am in Fayetteville NC
I have a 238-242 duration .600 .600 lift cam in a lq9, what selector on the msd box is best until I can hook a laptop to it? LS1HO? It's on truck right now but I only run on 93.
Nicely done young man
Bad ass build
How is that in stop n go traffic?
I have a 66 c10 with the sbc flat toppet cam ….not too fun in stop n go traffic , I am going to swap with a ls but not sure about carbureted ls
I'm about to put the same thing in my 84 Cutlass
What exhaust set up are you using, from header to exhaust tip
Your 317 heads are cathedral port… does the intake manifold ports match? Really only seen rectangle port intakes for sale.
Im putting a 5.3 in my 85 C10 it has a 305 with a 400 turbo ,the 5.3 came with a 350 turbo ,but I'm gonna use the 400 ,will I have to use the torque converter from the 350 Turbo or am I ok with the torque Convertor with the 400
Can you explain or show how you set or tune your MSD to run with truck without using the presets. I have mine ready, just waiting on a few parts. I'm doing same set up but I'll be using a th400. Great video
@@squarebodyblake4464 I been deciding on my own tune, my plan is 6.0 with th400 possibly a stage 2 cam. Mainly just a cruzer, nothing to be speeding around. Also I live in a higher elevation, and I need the choke.. that's where I'm deciding on a custom tune. But I was wondering if you use the preset tunes and how did that work?
Nice build. Can I get that part number for the alternator wiring
Nice setup, did you use an afr guage to tune it, how well does the edelbrock carb ryun, I have a 600 quickfuel, 4150 on my 5.3 it works well!!!
What tuning do you have to do to it when you change elevation
How did you wire the alternator with that pigtail?
What kind of throttle cable & accelerator bracket did you use ?
Hello, did you have to do a tune for for the the stage 2 cam?
Thanks for the video. Appreciate all the info. How is the throttle response with the AVS2 and what's the drivability like on a frosty morning? I'd love to find a square body S10 and do a carbed LS swap... one of these days.
@@squarebodyblake4464 Good deal, thanks. The reason for my question was because the LS carbed intake doesn't have the exhaust crossover like the old small block Chevy.
Where is the "stock" location on the ICT plate. I'm swapping in a 66 C10. Oh also, what header application are those?
WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THE LS VENT TUBES ON HEADS !
How the msd box treating you. If it fells go daytona spark
Did you have any issues with the truck “dieseling” or not wanting to shut off when you turn the key off ??
Nice truck
What’s the video title for the 800cfm adjustment details?
Very nice
What’s you do to vent crank case pressure?
me puedes decir que bomba de gasolina usas y el retorno de gasolina donde lo compro de antemano gracias
Great vid and content my man. But you can’t compare AN fittings from fancy to regular coolant hose style clamps. I get your drift. Just saying. Plus being low psi on the fuel, you don’t need anything. And another 1, driveline wise, can compare stock “untouched” to what “people” say to upgrade. Now if you just cruising your fine. But best believe. Any torque or sticky wheels, aka traction, your going to find out. I know it’s an old vid and ima subscribe but just my 2 pennys.
id put a shift kit in that th350. she kinda slid into 3rd there lol
