- Imelda May and Glen Hansard were among Irish stars performing outside the Gaiety this Christmas Eve. The event was organised to help raise funds for homeless charity the Simon Community.
Best Christmas song ever, I remember my Grandpa belting this out every Christmas, so many of our loved ones are gone but I like to think they are all up there singing this together. It’s my favourite
I’m an Irish American raised in Philadelphia and this song really hits home .. lol Irish women !!
Cant help but think that Kirsty was waiting to usher him into the next phase.

It is bewildering why the lyrics are such a big deal. The song is a well loved classic and any rendition attempted should perform the lyrics as composed. Indeed if you listen to rap music or view some movies and reality shows you could very well be confronted with much worse words than “faggot” there I’ve said it! Don’t shoot!

This song is mainly about an abusive and self-destructive heterosexual relationship. I don't thlnk it has much to say about gay relationships. Why censor it? They will be wanting to take the anti-semiticism out of the Merchant Of Venice next.
KT Tunstall does a great cover version where she changes the line to “you cheap, lazy blackguard” - which I think works perfectly!

You do realise they were taking the piss right? The whole point was to change it to the PC version to show how utterly ridiculous it is to change the wording. I have yet to meet a gay person who has a problem with the song (although online I've read some), and they are normally quite frustrated that the people turning it into a problem are straight, white social justice warriors.

Dreadful version of a classic song.
Handard and May are two very mediocre singers who have risen to dizzying heights in Ireland. It beggars belief. The old adage: "Who you know is better than what you know" definitely applies here. If this is the depth of our talent then we are seriously f-c-d. There is a long, long list of such people in Ireland who are mediocre artists but are feature everywhere on radio and TV.
