For someone who is about to go into my first comp in just 3 weeks... watching videos like this really make me calm my nerves!! :D I cant wait to get out there, and start in Agility after all this training behind us! Im look forward to the next step!!
@MrOzzyPom I know that for the most part, they're just mad at themselves, and that's good because you should always blame yourself and not the dog, but the problem is that they're expressing their frustration, and most dogs will take that as they must have done something wrong. Dogs don't understand that you're just mad at yourself, they can just tell that you're mad. I think it's important to always stay positive. And, yes, agility is a ton of fun. :)
I can see your point, but why slow them down when they are having so much fun?! Agility should be about letting your dog have as much fun as he possibly can, and for a lot of dogs running as fast as they can is super fun for them. I know from having a nervous slow dog, that when I let her run crazy and she makes a few mistakes it's much more preferable to having her trot slowly around worrying about doing things 'correct' :) What do you think? Would love to know your opinion on that?
It's always the handler! Always! A basic human mistake can confuse a dog. You just have to laugh, try it again, and give your dog a big hug at the end of the course! This is why I video ALL my runs. I can see what went wrong in my handling, and what wen't right!
Most are just they own mistake though, they arent clear enough on what direction to go aswell as blocking to the every once in a while.. Or they are just too slow cuz u can clearly see many of the dogs if told properly what to do, they'll do it
Oh lol I tell ya, I have just started doing agility with my wee dog and she is great! It is me who gets lost and dizzy and trips over and goes flying arse over kite 😂 - and we are just beginners! I don’t think I’ll do competitions - I used to event horses and the times I went the wrong way around a course was just stupid - I even ran the wrong way when I did cross country running! So yea, it’s the humans who set the dog up to go the right way with body language and position and I just don’t think it’s gonna be ok so we will stick to the fun of it 😂
There seems to be mess ups in all agility competitions, especially the amateur ones which I go to. Dogs going to fast and getting confused, handler mistakes, and distractions.
1) This was filmed 6 years ago. The skill level across the world was very different back then. 2) It's a high pressure event. It's only natural for some handlers to not be able to take it.
@johannita1985 Tu hablas inglés? Yo hablo español un poco pero mi inglés es muy bueno. As someone who has a border collie who plays agility, when I slap his side like that (not too hard of course) he gets excited and thinks its a game. That is probably the case with her dog. If she was actually mistreating him I doubt she would able to compete at such a high level - dogs who LOVE to work with their handlers (and are NOT abused by them) tend to be much better. She is definitely not hurting him :)
it must be hard. i ride horses and i do courses like that only there isn't tunells or ramps it is just jumps and i find it hard to remember the course.
Uh huh I see. Well that makes sense. I wouldn't think an Irish Wolfhound would want to go all that fast anyway though, but I guess it depends on the dog. I'm thinking that for agility it probably is just best to let them go whatever speed they want, then worry about the actual obstacles&course after, no? In reality I've seen a couple dogs fly of the dog walk and a lot of them weren't even going that fast. I think that some dogs can lose their footing up there at any speed they go..
Awww....this is almost painful to watch! Some of them are funny! I love the woman that's vocally supporting the sheltie!! The woman at 3:50 is taking it too seriously. I mean, it's a huge disappointment to lose something like that, but hitting her dog because of it is not ok.
I know how hard it is. The audience is a big distraction for the dog. It is hard for the dog to hear the command because the level of noise is high and both are pumped up on adrenalin. Usually the nearer the dog is, the better you have influence on the action, but you also get slower. If you let run the dog too far ahead it will lose its track quickly and in worst case the dog just has its fun and chasing around as if it is in the dog park on a Sunday afternoon.
I own a algilty course and i have been having owners sufficating there dogs because the dogs don't really get what to do on the first try because the owners are mad at at the dogs
you know. I work in dog sled racing and am inclined to believe you. I have seen people beat tired sled dogs that have been running for 20 miles. And seen people run dogs till they collapse and drag them by their necks. The horribly low care standards. I can totally see someone sucking at training dogs trying to get into agility and being mean to their dog.
I hate it when handlers get all pissed when a mistake happens. I feel bad for the dogs, they were trying, and they don't understand why the handler got all mad. Most of these were very clearly handling errors.
Why? It looked like a shy worried dog. The yeller could have been a friend in the audience helping out. Some dogs (and handlers) actually run better if people cheer them on. Agility is not golf.
Ah ha okay I see your point there. I just had to say this because I know what it is like to have a slow dog and try to speed her up. She gets so stressed because she is a 'perfectionist' and I spend a lot of time showing her that agility there are no mistakes, only second tries I see what you mean about the DW too, but I've always been taught in every agility class I've had to 'never call the dog off the contacts, just let him finish then, fix your mistake' guess some people aren't taught that
Com toda a gentileza, o problema não foi a estupidez dos borders colies, um vez que não foram só os borders a falhar. O problema é dos circuito, os circuitos de hoje parece que são feitos para o cão estar a espicaçar-se invés de desenvolver agilidade.
lol im reading these comments and cracking up :P I saw comments on another video bashing horse riding courses and Im like really lol whats up with this? I ride.
In most of the cases its handlers fault cause they don't know how to move properly and are always in the dogs way! But its real fun to see this handlers reactions hahahahahahahhaa

The handlers get upset, the dog comes out of the tunnel and they handlers have to act happy to keep their dogs happy. So funny!
Seriously, how can you not laugh at some of these? I find them adorable.
I feel like some of the Border Collies tries to herd their owners in pure confusion :P
a lot of them also look like they've learned to heel to the left side, so when they get confused they default to that
2:54 made me happy when he kissed his dog

some of these owners need some agility training. not the dogs.

Do you get disqualified if your dog does a wrong obstacle?
Lo mas importante es divertirse y compartir, excelente video, gracias
at one championship where the dog stopped, looked around, proceeded to pee then walked the rest of the course....we all howled!
There seems to be mess ups in all agility competitions, especially the amateur ones which I go to. Dogs going to fast and getting confused, handler mistakes, and distractions.
Who is the handler at 1:15 with the Malinois? I didn't realize there were any mals in the FCI Worlds!
I can not get how these handlers even got to the world championships in the first place!
Everybody has their bad moments😉
+Merle Van Beest yes of course, but they seemed extremely unprepared and not at all clear for the dogs🙈
they wouldn't be on the WC if they weren't clear for the dogs

Haha! You gotta love those dog's enthusiasm.
LOL so cute that dog at 3:41 .. though he/she was still competing and had more trials to do and didn't know where or what it was lol
@23Nellie1 Is she hitting her dog? To me, that looked like a celebration, and she was just patting her dog.
So painful :-: rip clean runs

LOL, good to know that these kind of things happens the best agility handlers, too :-))
Are there any penatlies if dog jumps above the tunnel instead of going around?
what kind of dog was that last? Cute!
it must be hard. i ride horses and i do courses like that only there isn't tunells or ramps it is just jumps and i find it hard to remember the course.

@deemstyle This is Martin Eberle from Switzerland.
@johannita1985 Tambien... Que es peliteñida?
@23Nellie1
She had a wonderful amazing clear run and cuddled the dog ;) It's a support and not a punishment!
@agilitytosca oh okay wasn't to sure!

looks like a really difficult course xD
Yup! I could never have done any course if i never walked it before i ran with my dog!:)
I own a algilty course and i have been having owners sufficating there dogs because the dogs don't really get what to do on the first try because the owners are mad at at the dogs

Ouch........
hehe- lol, good to know not just me with a scatty JRT! (lot of bad handling errors though)

3:54, that was a little harsh on the petting!! Never blame the dog, rule 1 of agility.
That yeller in the audience should have been chucked out on their ear!
Why? It looked like a shy worried dog. The yeller could have been a friend in the audience helping out. Some dogs (and handlers) actually run better if people cheer them on. Agility is not golf.
If anyone even claps or cheers a bit my dog will go running out of the ring to find them...

lol the guy at 2:55 looks annoyed at having to fix the ring side lol :D
Happy handler @ 3:54 :)
was this just an extremely hard course or what?
No, just filmed allmost 1000 runs, and set all mistakes together.
Gert Danckaers Crazy.. that's a lot of Runs :)
In big comptions yes.:)
Is it me or is this course just too confusing?
a little less raspberry cordial
First dog wanted to be chased 😂
I don't know whether at 3:58 she is hitting her dog and patting his
patting
Thus just shows be careful with your handling :|
lol im reading these comments and cracking up :P I saw comments on another video bashing horse riding courses and Im like really lol whats up with this? I ride.
3:52
WTF was she doing to that dog lol :P
I worry for the dogs. The owners looked so angry
In most of the cases its handlers fault cause they don't know how to move properly and are always in the dogs way! But its real fun to see this handlers reactions hahahahahahahhaa
;-)
yay! only one from sweden messed up! Jenny Damm with Ina doesn't count!
0:25 LMAO
Silly handlers lol
loons like the trainers need to work on their personal agility lol
Oh, und noch was. Ein Hund der geschlagen wird, wedelt nicht mit dem Schwanz.
Geschlagen? Hast wohl nie 'nen eigenen Hund gehabt?
warum schlägt sie ihren hund?! 3:52
I don't like thee woman who was hitting the dog
Die Hunde sehen sooo nervös aus...
this sucks
