why are the handlers ashamed? have fun with your dog friend... kudos to those who didn't give up
And shame on those who did! I know nothing about agility but it
is obvious the dogs were confused and crushed when their inept handlers walked off.
I like how the crowd (at 1:11 ) starts booing him for walking off!
Yes, I also appreciated this.
these dogs want to please their master's so desperately they want to get it right it's just so sad when they mess up a little bit and the trainers get upset about it, I know it's disappointing because they work so hard it's just your heart goes out to the dogs because you can feel their loyalty and they desperately want to please they're human parent
Overheard at an agility competition: "If only one of you is having fun, it should be the dog."
Agility courses can be hard; they're designed to be confusing. However doing well at first can make a mistake very frustrating. There's nothing wrong with being frustrated when there's a communication error, it's natural. Yes, the dogs aren't machines and it's usually a failure to gesture correctly on the handler's part, but there's nothing wrong with being competitive and getting upset when something goes wrong. As long as they understand that it wasn't the dog's fault and are good about it.
So much emotion from the humonoids. As long as the dogs are having fun it is always a success.
First Rule of Agility: Never let your dog know you/he made a mistake! You're never negative, you never punish. You may just reward less in training to show the difference between correct and incorrect but you always appreciate the effort. These folks are bad sports/trainers.
Sammi Flynn Yeah, I agree. I don't own a dog but it's much the same concept with horses 😂
You can have a "negative marker" like a calm "oops" or something to let them know that wasn't what you meant and try to correct your cue/posture/whatever to get the response you want. If I'd never told my dog running under the jump wasn't what I wanted, she'd never have changed her behavior to find the right thing. It's great to positively reinforce the desired action, and you don't have to punish the wrong action but you do need to say oops, not what I meant, let's try again. I don't spank my toddler for peeing in the training pants but I do say oops, that's not what we want, let's try again and reward when he gets it right. Saying no that wasn't right isn't punishment.
I agree with all 3 of you. But some of these trainers, didn't just say no. Their entire body posture and language, said "I fucking hate you/me". Sad thing is, the dog dosn't understand the difference in the "you/me" part, so they think they falied big time and are in for a "spanking". One dog literally ran away from the owner.. I think that' says it all. :/
The rules I was taught are that all mistakes are the human's fault and to always reward the dog for mistakes in training. This way the dog has been trained that when you're discouraged in your team's performance on a course, it's still a good thing for them. I adopted a shy adult dog who'd duck and hide when I offered him a toy or accidentally lifted my hand too quickly. Through agility he's become outgoing and boisterous, and he's crazy happy around agility equipment.
I’m
that setup of that course was horrible.
The dogs are doing the best they can, that's a really confusing looking course, especially when moving at that speed!
As a rider and dog owner I noticed it's very important to give yourself and your animal some closure even if you're disqualified. so one last nice easy jump for a good ending and then leaving without being angry and disappointed as shit. I can understand the ambition of the owners, but at last it's about fun.
Ha. The fun goes right out the window if there is money involved.
I agree as you can see the dogs still want to play and don’t understand why you’ve walked away 🤷🏻♀️
I remember a video of a Crufts competition where one of the dogs was a real character. He got the biggest ovation of any of the dogs when he stopped at a jump, picked up the bar and ran off the field carrying the bar in his teeth. My suspicion is that he was specially trained to be the clown just to provide comic relief for the crowd and maybe infuse an idea that these events are not life and death serious, it's OK to have fun too. The crowd absolutely loved that dog.
dude I would be confused too
This is atrocious for a world championship. Some of these handlers aren't even showing good sportsmanship. The only reason you don't complete the course is if the dog injures itself or refuses to continue.
Good sportsmanship? You'r doing it cause your dog likes it and shouln't care about sportsmanship, just finish the damn course, you'r doing it for your dog, not yourself.
This is one of the hardest courses I have seen!
Its not our fault...we got the wrong hand signals
All I saw was an extremely confusing course and a bunch of owners/handlers who probably spend the rest of their time on the kiddie soccer field, screaming obscenities at the poor coach and then berating their child afterwards for not being the winner.
A few of them actually threw hissy fits. Good grief. It's supposed to be FUN. Fun, and if there's a ribbon that's a bonus. These people's behavior was awful.
I just wound up feeling really sorry for those dogs. They looked like they were having so much fun until their owners started acting like children with anger issues.
Hahaha, I love watching bloopers. They make me and my backyard agility look good and I need self esteem hehe
I completely agree! You can't have your shoulders facing opposite from the way you want the dog to go! :)
:D Someone give the man at 3:09 a treat for doing the front-flip trick.
Oh, I couldn't stop laughing. This is great course!
having been in some of these shows I can only giggle and find these exemples much more endearing 😘
This course really is confusing for the handlers and the dogs
a dog is only as good as the handler and its suppose to be fun foe both
They should have hired a Border Collie to set up the course.
The fact that so many dogs made the same mistake, choosing to go for the wrong obstacle, shows a failure in the course design.
I agree, that was the most fun watching I've had in a long time 🐘❤️🐑
This is cracking me up, the dogs are having so much fun.
as far as I'm concerned it's not the one on two legs that's competing, it's the dog, they're the ones doing the work and should be the ones getting the awards, too many people in things like this think it's all about them , it isn't.
Thank you so much for sharing this video 😘😘😘 It was so funny 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 You made my day 😍
Yes, a great time was had. We all need that!
Those fur babies are having a blast who cares if they are doing it right. But they are doing most of it right but let them have some fun. They are adorable
Love how all the collies are like “oops, okay human now what?”
All the dogs that are going to the wrong tunnel around 1:00 are doing go because of handler errors. The handlers all have their bodies facing that tunnel still, so there's no reason for the dog not to think that's the tunnel.
These dogs r having a blast & that is the best
That course was set up for failure.
the music actually goes with whats going wrong! :) Great video by the way!
The fault is with the course design, not the dogs or the handlers.
😂 now THAT is dog show entertainment! 😂
I think it's hysterical when the handlers get all crazed...LOL Where's the perspective folks? It's agility- nobody is dying, relax. I know what it's like to work so hard and have your dog go another way, and I too have gotten flustered SO many times. But, in the end- you just have to laugh and take a bow!
monicat777. - One of my dogs, after behaving perfectly throughout a very long, advanced obedience class, decided (on the last exercise) to take the piss out of me. I called him out of a close circle down/stay, and he did a beautiful, straight recall, ignoring all distractions, that ended with him sitting perfectly square... in front of the class instructor 30 feet away! He then added insult to injury by doing an automatic heel to complete the exercise!
Everyone fell out laughing and what can you do but join in and take a bow? As soon as you can't do that, training/competing ceases to be work of the 'I love what I do' kind and becomes work of the 'I hate Mondays' kind. No thanks.
Lousy set up for the course caused the tunnel confusion.
the guy at the end looked like he was about to smack his dog
Alot of the errors were handler error. They point to the wrong jump or obstacle for a split second. Some of them are just the dog interpreting but many of these were the handler indicating the wrong obstacle. Even if it's only for a moment, with how fast paced these events are, you have to be very clear about the obstacle you want them to jump or go through. There was a Portuguese contestant at Crufts one year who had a fantastic handling style of using both hands to indicate the jump the dog was supposed to jump and he was just as quick as his collie. There was 0 miscommunication in his style and I LOVED watching it.
Thanks for this video ! A lot of memories !
This was so funny. I hope the dogs had a good time.
That course seemed diffcult and not laid out clearly...you have people running into the jumps, dogs getting uncorrect hand signals...Where was this?
Some people just take things toooooo seriously. The dogs are having fun and so should the handlers!
It should be for fun,but I understand if they get a bit frustrated. They have to I`m sure get up early, stay there for many hours, and work hard at it. Normally they do try to finish the course and don't walk away from the dog in other competitions I've seen. usually its only if the dog runs of course do they stop, but some people obviously have less patients for a mistake then others.
Talk about having fun! These dogs are great, looks like mine at home
they really need to set there parts out better
as long as the dogs had fun, thats what its all about
I love when the handlers stop or fall down the dogs are like what the heck get up lets go!
to be fair the course is a bit complicated in some places you would think the dog should keep going straight when it's supposed to take a turn
Dogs will be dogs! I swear some of them know exactly what they're doing.
this made me feel good because my dog and i are going through some troubles right now and i felt like i was the only one
I saw one years ago. I think it was a Crufts agility for wee dogs. Well the wee dog doing it held the whole exercise in complete contempt. His expression of disdain "Really? This one as well? I have better things to do even if you don't" has stayed with me to this day.
Boy there's just something about that tube.
These handlers are actually not that good.. I'll make sure to try these "tricky" sequences myself and see what the fuzz is abou
I was disappointed in the handlers that got frustrated and walked off the course...the dogs were still keen to reset and keep going and didn't seem to understand why their game was cut short
@SolaAkaKaze Everyone always says stuff should be "just for fun" but what would be the fun of joining if it's easy? Competition makes it hard which makes it more of a victory if you win. Nothing will just be "for fun" sorry to break it to ya
The owners shouldn't be so cranky just because the dog had fun and ran a bit further...!;)
The guy with the black poodle (?) at the end was brilliant. He did that roll and the dog just walks over and licks him like... 'What? Did I do something wrong?'
How can you get angry at a dog when he thinks that he did everything right and he is so happy that he pleased you, even if he did not ? Killing their enthusiasm would be a mistake. There is always next time.
Cómo se llama la canción de fondo
those trainers are taking this way to serious..
I’d be happy if my dog made it over one jump. Let alone the others.
I'd love to know the specific title or class, but I assume this class is the one that is set up so ridiculous to screw dog and handler up on purpose. It's super hard, and I believe you are disqualified after a few faults. Hence why they walk out. ...would love a better description..
It's probably A3, you get disqualified if you make 3 mistakes, if dog goes on a wrong obstacle that's immediately a disqualification:)
what do we call that at 1:56?
great vid but the people should have planned those traps when they walked the course (did they walk the course beforehand?)
yes, very fine compilation ;o)
What's the famous piece of music again, and who's playing it? Brilliant rendition
This is a blooper.
Poor dog who’s handler gave up on him. What? What? What do you want me to do???
Some upset humans.
Are you sure they didn't mess up when they arranged the course? All those dogs can't be wrong!
The dogs did it there way and have fun
So much fun!
I don’t know about that course if all the dogs went the same way and it was “wrong”
Aww bless them. Unfortunately, and im not saying it in this case, but if there is money involved its not always about the fun. Its a bit like some dog breeders, not all, but some are motivated by the financial aspect
SO MUCH FUN!!!
That is probably the crappies corse I've ever seen. What ding doing set that up?
Even I would be confused too.
Yes but I think that the person is saying that they appear to be frustrated with the dog rather than themselves. Also, I think they are taking the competition too seriously and are worried they are competing for the wrong reason. I realise we don't agree
It's awful how the handlers get pissed off. I mean, agility should be just for fun. And their sportsmen are just dogs. Not machines.
A failure of the trainer, not the dog. If they know what you want they will give it to you.
The handlers were the disaster not the dogs!
I would rather watch these shows when they mess up.
LOL----I loved it. We humans simply slow the doggies down :)
So many people are saying how bad it is the owners get pissed off, but the thing is, this is World Championship. You are going to get annoyed or upset if you fail, and as long as the handler doesn't hit the dog or something, it is okay for them to show a little emotion some times. You wouldn't say they shouldn't celebrate if they won, would you? In my opinion, as long as they do not hurt their dog it should be okay.
If competing is more important then having fun with your dog, in my opinion, you are a shitty dog owner. The dog is not competing, he is playing with the friend he love the most, so yeah, it's a poor behavior, period.
+Lola Tricks On one hand I agree with you. Dog handlers are not robots and at world championship it is understandable to show some emotions. however... you can clearly see some handlers just got kinda angry but got over that and ran further and some got... REALLY pissed off. Their dogs must have felt such negativity and at two occasions dogs seemed scared to me :o It''s ok to show some emotions but you should never let your dog feel confused let alone afraid!
Wait so what happens when your dog goes off track? Penalty or DQ?
Poor dogs, trying so hard and not getting clear instructions.
the way this course is laid out it is very confusing, the one at crofts is laid out better
they get so mad at there dog it crazy
there are so many reasons why I hate this! ugh
These people don't even care about there dogs
It’s supposed to be fun for the dogs and we get stressed giving it to them
Cannot help but LOL on most of this, but idonnobout some of those handlers!??
how did i get here from a motovlog? wtf?
They should at l3ast finish them off so the poor pups aren't confused
Great !
Yes I agree
i HATE it when the handlers get PO bcuz the dogs just confused where to go! so its the handlers fault!
My dog didn't jump so I'm going to flip myself on the ground.
