    She’s beautiful! Man I love this style caddy! When I think Cadillac this thru 92 is my dream of a Cadillac! My Dad once had an 87 that did 12 years of service as the “family car” at a local funeral home!! Boy was it awesome! Was perfect condition when he got it, of course it was washed and put back in the garage the entire time the funeral home had it! Was a real dream to drive! True luxury car!

    1978 to 1992 what a run! This is what a garage kept snow belt car looks like. The A/C runs out because of tiny compressor leak. My old Riv, lasted about a year & a half with the A/C issue. It will have to be converted. The MPG on that Caddy has to be 13mpg for daily driver use.

    I remember 1977 when GM downsized these cars, people called them “knee breakers”. At the time, this was a midsized car. Today, a full sized car is about the size of a compact, car from the 1970’s.

    • @williamlacentra2808
      @williamlacentra2808 2 роки тому

      I disagree . I had a 1976 Cadillac Coupe Deville, the last of the large Cadillac's. Starting with the 1977 till the mid eighties Cadillac, they were downsized, but even these models were always considered full sized, being that most all other luxury cars, including Lincoln -although also downsized were full sized auto's. !

    • @petermartinijr.1012
      @petermartinijr.1012 2 роки тому +3

      @@williamlacentra2808 Yes they were considered full sized, because GM was the first auto manufacturer to downsize & the industry knew everything was going to downsize over the next 2 years. But, a 1977 Caddy Fleetwood or Deville wasn’t much bigger than a 1976 midsized car. Today, a Chrysler 300 is considered full sized, but that same size car in 1976 would have been a compact car. The standard of what is a full sized car changed over the decades. By the standards of the 1970’s, a 1977 Caddy Fleetwood was not a big car even though it was considered full sized.
      I’ll tell you a funny story, a guy my father knew, very wealthy, had a 1976 Fleetwood Brougham. He sold it to my neighbor, and bought a 1977 Fleetwood brougham. He hated it, it was too small. He had the car lengthened to the size as a 1976. But here is the funny part, he had the car widened to the width of a 1976 Caddy. The cost to widen a car must be enormous. The seats had to be customized, the axels had to be customized, the steering had to be re-engineered, I don’t remember if the changed the dashboard. By the time he was done, it probably would have been a lot cheaper to buy a 1977 Roll Royce.

    • @williamlacentra2808
      @williamlacentra2808 2 роки тому

      @@petermartinijr.1012 Tell me about it------My 1976 Cadillac was customized from the start, with a custom grill complete with a Bronze lacquer original Flying lady Goddess hood ornament imported from Detroit ---Other custom features included gas shocks which raised or lowered the rear of the car when more stress was placed on it. Although I sold the car in 1986 ----it cost me a fortune , considering the second gas shortage I suffered through in 1979. But all was worth the cost because that car was long distanced and drove like it was on cloud nine. I sold the car in 1986, because of the changing times and because I knew that parts were getting more difficult to acquire . That said----that Is the same reason why I would never buy the above 1978 Cadillac being sold, -the parts issue, especially because of the over 144k Mileage...these cars are good for wealthy collectors to store in a garage .!

      @@williamlacentra2808 Must have been a nice car, what model & color Caddy was it? Why did you change the shocks? The 1976 Fleetwood Broughams had automatic level control standard, and was optional on the Cailles & Devilles. My family owned a limousine livery service. All Cadillacs, limousines, hearses, flower cars. I remember seeing the new 1977 Caddy’s for the first time & saying they can’t downsize the limousines they will be too small, was I wrong. By today’s standards that 1977 limousine is gargantuan, but back then it was small. My father always drove full sized cars, but he didn’t like Cadillacs, he liked Buick Electra 225’s mostly, in 77 he switched to Chrysler New Yorker. 1978 he didn’t have a car, I don’t remember why, he drove one of the hearses as his daily car all day. So every year he bought a new car, and in 1979 he broke down and surprised me & bought a Cadillac. I wanted him to buy a Lincoln Continental, but he said it was like driving a limousine all day and wanted a downsized car. That’s why he bought a Cadillac. In 1980 he switched to the Lincoln Continental Mark VI. I liked everything about that Caddy except the color, the only time my mother didn’t pick the color.

      @@williamlacentra2808 Those big Cadillacs rode nice. I was only in my early teens in the late 1970’s, but I prefer those cars to the ones today. They rode better, the seats were more comfortable, you had room to stretch your legs on long trips. They cut a lot of corners in the 70’s so build quality wasn’t there, but styling and comfort much better than today. And I really hate all the technology and infotainment in cars today.

    There is a special group of Cadillac enthusiasts who have had the true Cadillac experience. The true Cadillac experience belongs exclusively to those of us who learned to drive in one. We know who we are and we know where we have been. Cadillac belongs to us. I turned 16 in 1979 and learned to drive in my parents 1978 Fleetwood. Almost identical to the one in this video. When new, these cars were as fast as rockets and we're unmatched in comfort and ride. 45 years later, I can still feel that steering wheel gliding through my 16 year old hands as if the car was driving itself and was somehow very much aware that my parents trusted it with my life. I have owned several Cadillac's in my adult life but none come close to that 1978 Fleetwood. Every now and then, I will have a dream in which the 16 year old me is floating through time and space in that car. Ask anyone who learned to drive in a Cadillac and you will hear the same dreamy story.

    I had a 79 coupe Deville that I bought in 84 it had 24,000 miles on it. One of the best cars i ever had. It made it to California from Va and back again 2 times. It was a comfortable car but it still drove like a sporty car. I miss that car!!!

    Plushness. My grandpa had a 78' Lesabre he purchased new. It looked showroom, and was in perfect mint low mile condition when he traded it in at our smalltown GM dealer in 87'.
    The whole car completely shit the bed for the next owner. Everything went wrong with it within a month. The new owner actually sued the dealership it was so bad. lol

    This is a beauty! When they had style! Anthony when you were picking at the paint each time, I found myself cringing. 😬😳😄 I am noticing how similar the old Oldsmobile I owned is to this Caddy...neat.

    LOL I remembered when GM Downsized, I was in H.S. and my Dad's friend always got every other year a new SDV for his wife, (I wonder if they leased) anyhow he was MAD about the downsizing as the 75 SDV was up for renewal, he didn't buy one until 78 when he bought her a new SDV. My Dad always bought 98's and he bought the 77 Regency, it wasn't the car the prevous 98's were, but it was great for road trips and comfortable.

    Fun fact! The 80s to 1992 Broughams were based more on the '77-79 Sedan DeVille and the key is in the B-pillar which is parallel in the deville as in the brougham whereas in these fleetwoods the same lines run perpendicular.

    The car has held up remarkably well for the age and mileage. Just goes to show the quality Cadillac is known for. Try to do that with a Toyota or Nissan- not going to happen!

    These are the cars I'd realistically buy. As much as i love the lowest mileage examples, i would be afraid to drive those for fear of damage. They've also tended to be sitting for extended periods which isn't good for cars. 148k miles for a '78 is still low mileage but i have the reassurance that it's always been driven over the years and not sitting for extended periods.
