I'm baptist, but someone approached me today and told me he was from the church of LDS. I didn't know what that was, so i told him i would do some research; I like learning about different denominations of christianity. I didnt realize the LDS was just the name of the church for mormons. I don't accept the book of mormon, but I can respect my fellow Christians all the same. We all believe in the same core concept, and I pray we are all redeemed, despite slight differences in practices and interpretations of the word.

Amen 🤍🙏🏼 It would seem Redemption in the blood of Jesus Christ is key 🗝️ however, they Also believe Adam as man was GOD and this is not so, also the Bible warns about changing his word changing anything one word in the Bible is really bad! Joseph Smith & Brigham Young not only changed it but added to it and rearranged God's word. ✝️ I am praying salvation in Jesus Christ and a True love for Him is sufficient here as well. 🙏🏼👑 God's will be done forever and ever, Amen.🤍

@PearlofJesus747 the original texts were hebrew and greek. No english translation can be perfect. There's many different wording depending on what translation you read. Some aim for a word for word translation, while others aim to better articulate the thought for thought.

In the 1838 account of JS vision, he claimed Jesus told him that all churches were wrong (don’t join any), all Christian creeds are an abomination and all its professors are corrupt. The church had fallen into complete apostasy with the gospel needing to be restored and the Church reorganized.
If Jesus is the Head of the Church (Ephesians 1:22-23) and promises to protect His Bride so that even the gates of hell would not prevail against it (Matthew 16:17-18), how could the Gospel have been corrupted and His Church fallen into complete apostasy?
      1. What entity other than the gates of hell prevailed against His Church, causing the true gospel and His Church to be wrong/lost?
      2. What power greater than Christ, did His church succumb too?
      3. Did Jesus break His promise of protection, evidenced in Her need to be reorganized?
      4. Would Jesus talk poorly about His Bride to anyone?
The LDS claim of needed restoration is ultimately accusing Christ of being a liar, weak, incompetent and unfaithful.
      2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

His very Holy Name is in the name of our church. We pray in the name of our, Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, when we gather. We are Christian, yup we are. Thank you again.

A few things were missing. Polygamy didn't end in 1890 but in 1910, there were more than one "first vision". Finances didn't show that the Church was presently worth $230billion and recently was fined $5million by the Federal Commerce Commission for hiding finances in shell corporations. And member still believe in polygamy in the next life or the Celestial Kingdom though it is not legal in this life. And for 6 years in its history, it was renamed "The Church of the Latter-Day Saints", omitting the name of Jesus in the title. So if you are interested in this or any denomination, be sure you read and study a lot.

But it wasn't always in the name. There was a 6-year period when the church changed its name to The Church of the Latter-Day saints. You can Google "The Kirtland Temple" and on that temple it says The Church of the Latter-Day Saints. I think the Church is Christian but there was that time. Very well done. Accurate. Factual. Neutral. As a former Mormon from SLC I often find I’m defending the many innacurrate often boldly fictional portrayals of both the church & its members. I despise the use of embellishments & fiction being used at ANY level when describing fact especially people, beliefs &/or groups of people which since leaving Mormonism Ive found a literal vast majority of people have significant errors &/or discrepencies in their views, beliefs & descriptions of the LDS church & its teachings, principals & especially how its members believe & behave. I hate using lies to describe anything & just because I personally don’t believe in the teachings, I respect & honor those who do & the truth & reality behind it all. Plain & simple. Thank you for one of, if not the best accurate neutral descriptions & portrayals of the facts of the LDS church & its members & their history & teachings. Truly unbiased & true. I appreciate it. Cult no. Heretics? Yes. No offense.
When you say the bible has errors. You are saying a perfect infinite God cannot preserve his perfect infinite word. Anything you build upon that, by discounting Timothy as a reliable teaching, even though it says scripture makes up perfect, is a castle built on sand. Saying we can be more perfect than perfect from scripture, by creating new doctrine. Is exactly what the bible warns against, so many times.
You make God fallable, by your own admission that his word has not been preserved. And take away Pauls authority, given to him by God by discounting what he teaches in Timothy because he teaches it to a certain people.
But with God, a teaching is for all men for all time. Its not just a here and now thing, its God's literal word. And thats not even getting into the whole we can be sinless and just be taken to heaven. When John said, If we claim to be without sin, we decieve ourselves and the truth is not in us.
There is no foundation, you ripped it up. And tried to build a house on sand.

As you continue to study, please consider this. In the 1838 account of Joseph Smiths first vision, Smith claims that Jesus told him this, (Jesus speaking of all Christian churches) “I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”
Joseph was told that the Gospel needed to be restored and the Church reorganized. The Church had fallen into complete apostasy.
Now consider this. If Christ is the head of His Church/Bride (Ephesians 1:22-23) and promises to build and protect His Church (Matthew 16:17-19 -…and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it), ask the missionaries next time you see them these 4 questions:
      1. What greater thing than the gates of hell was able to prevail against(defeat) His Church.
      2. To what power, greater than Jesus, did His Church succumb too?
      3. Did Jesus break His promise, failing to protect His Bride?
      4. Would Jesus, the head of His Church, speak so poorly of His Bride to Joseph Smith?
Please continue in your research and study, and pray th that these missionaries come to a real faith in Christ.

I’ve always been co fused about their idea of afterlife. For example, if a man and wife sealed, they spend eternity forever. Is this a separate or individual“heaven” for just those 2? Or heaven for all Mormons? If they have kids do the kids spend eternity in the parents heaven? Of so, what happens when the kids get married and sealed. Do they know go t a different heaven than either of their parents, like their own heaven as a couple? Cause then it seems like husbands and are the only ones to spend eternity together🤷🏽‍♀️. Is that where the polygamist lifestyle came to be?

    • @IllustratetoEducate

They believe in 3 degrees of glory or heavens. The highest degree is called the celestial kingdom. This is where they believe in families being sealed together forever. As far as your question, it’s more or less the couple that is sealed together but their children and their spouses would also exist in the celestial kingdom as well. The ideal scenario is that everyone is sealed to their spouse and everyone enjoys heaven (whatever that might entail) together as one massive family where God also lives. The other kingdoms of glory - terrestrial and telestial are both supposed to be glorified as well and places better than earth. However, they are reserved for those who have not completed all the ordinances necessary for the highest degree or repented or fully accepted Jesus Christ’s sacrifice.

The LDS Church has the stone in their archives that Joseph Smith put in a hat to block out the light, He looked at that stone and translated the BoM. You can also read about that in the 1990 article of "The Ensign," by M. Russell Ballard, an apostle. And as for Christians with their Bible, there is no original copy of the manuscripts that were used to translate either the Old or the New Testaments so no one knows exactly what Jesus said.

You may have some manuscripts but you don't have the originals. That's why no one can ever know exactly what Jesus said. Some Christian churches accept the fact that men make mistakes. If you don't think there are any mistakes, just ask me to tell you those scripture verses and I will. I prefer to listen to objective evidence rather than theological guesses. I listen to podcasts from world-reknown Bible historians. From one podcast, I was referred to "The New Oxford Annotated Bible", 2400 pages. From this I understand how manuscripts that are different become part of a Bible-----textual criticism. A lot of evangelicals jump on that as if we're discarding sections of the Bible. The truth is that I don't think that evangelicals disagree that to get the full truth from the Bible it has to be translated correctly. That really shouldn't be a controversial statement

Our belief is that Jesus is God, but is a separate being from God the Father. Jesus is God of all things with the Father working through Him. Our heavenly Father is a separate being and Christ is His servant and our advocate with the Father. Jesus is the creator which is why sometimes He is called father, which he is to our bodies. Jesus is our king and is God, he simply does all this in our Heavenly Father's name

@@Kayson-Muir Thank you for your participation. I don't know that he needs a defense though. I'm just encouraging him to read up on it better so that he can judge it honestly.
The reason Christians arrive at the trinity is because of two things. First, Isaiah 43:10 where God says, "before me no God was formed nor will there be any formed after me." Its about as clear as you can get. There is only 1 God. Second, there are things that we are told are held only by God. Salvation and the right to forgive sins, among other things. So if Jesus saves and forgives sins and Isaiah makes it clear that there is only 1 God then something is going on here. Third, we see this mult-nature of God throughout the OT. When God sends men off to Sodom, god is manifested on earth, and when the judgment is made on Sodom, it says that God(YHWH on earth) calls down from God(YHWH) in heaven. This would fit your theology if Isaiah 43:10 and many like it didn't exist, but they do.
Then of course we have the famous verses, "In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God." Not "a god." We have in Phil 2. Jesus not considering equality with GOD something to be grasped humbled Himself and took on the form of a bond-servant. Then finally we have God the father being called the Almighty, Alpha and Omeg, first and last, beginning and the end. Who else is called these terms in Revelation? Jesus.
I am actually confused by Mormon theology so if you can clarify any of it, I would appreciate it. It seems very inconsistent to me. You have prophets but many of the prophets teachings aren't codified, so are they prophets or not? I really don't understand the nature of salvation because I don't understand what we are being saved from? It feels like the language is borrowed but it doesn't mean the same thing. I also don't understand marriage in the Mormon church. We hear that its about eternal marriage even though the Bible says there is no marriage in heaven and what we've heard is that eternal marriage is necessary to have spirit children, which is also a concept I don't understand since Joseph taught that we are all eternal intelligences.
That was quick an a lot of things. Don't feel the need to answer them all. Just pick one if your willing and we can discuss that one, and we can continue to discuss the trinity if you have other questions.

Yeah... No. The persecution against the Latter-day Saints was purely because they were seen as a threat due to their religious beliefs, and anti-slavery political opinions. They were perfectly peaceful until they were harassed by violent mobs and the state. Not only did they not threaten the governor, but the things you are referring to happened AFTER the governor had already ordered that all mormons be exterminated and then burned down their cities. The printing press thing for example was in Nauvoo Illinois, a city completely built and governed by Latter-day Saints, and happened several years after the Saints left Missouri. This is where I have a problem with the LDS doctrine. If they say the bible contains errors, such as conveniently they discount the Timothy letters especially. Which the oldest known copy is from 180ad.
Because in them, it says that all scripture is profitable for teaching in righteousness. And that also scripture can make one perfect. Then them adding to scripture, is saying perfect, isnt perfect enough. And that we can be more perfect.
And it also says, that God is not perfect. Because he didnt preserve his perfect word. Which is just...wrong. Idc how you look at it, anything they build past that, is a castle built on sand.
Had a long discussion. And it got to where they believe you can be sinless like Jesus, and be deathless and just taken to heaven. Which, if that happened even 1 time in their history, they would be telling the world. Or should, and if they arent. Then they arent testifying like they should. They also say they withhold teachings. Which...again is not biblical at all.
They are heretics. Plain and simple. Do not, and i mean do not go down this road.
They take away Pauls authority given to him by God, and say the bible has errors. Exactly same stuff islam does. So they can push their own stuff. Its the same in my viewpoint.

When we did find safety by leaving the country the place we lived was annexed and when we still tried to self govern the US army sent troops in (polygamy is yet to be outlawed) so we simply defended our selves and eventually submitted. Polygamy was then banned in which we continued to practice as we believe it to have been a comandment from God. More legislation was later passed allowing them to bar us from voting, holding office, and keeping our personal property. President Woodruff received revelation that we should end polygamy which we did and reverted to God's standard (as revealed in the Book of Jacob) that a man should have one wife. The book of Mormon also identifies a reason for the practice which is raising good seed unto Him which is proved by the fact that myself and many other people would never have been born if not for the practice.

Lol love how you sped through how he translated the plates that no one on earth wver saw except for him. He used a magic rock and looked into his hat with it and the words magically appeared to him. There are so many horrible racist, sexist, and just messed up amd crazy things about the church that even it's own members aren't aware of or they ashamedly excuse snd are embarrassed about. I asked a lot of questions growing up in the church and the more I asked, the more I was told, and the more I learned the more I became an atheist. It's a cult and I feel bad for everyone who still believes that it isnt.

There were other witnesses to the plates and they did record their witness of it.

I've read the witness statements and they are all over the place. The women only ever saw them covered up in cloth and they talked about him handing them to them to hide which one sister did quickly...even though the men said they weighed 60lbs. How could these women easily be lifting 60lbs? The women also talked about feeling the pages and they felt like heavy paper and moved like paper but made a tinkling sound. The men described them very differently. Most of the witnesses were his family members. They also said they saw angels, heard voices, and used their spiritual eyes, etc to see the plates. Even if there were plates, they could have easily been in another language from previous humans and he just made up what they said.

@SecretButterflyGarden The witnesses are some of the best pieces of evidence for the Book of Mormon. Critics often have to dig up cherry picked 2nd and 3rd hand accounts because the first hand accounts overwhelmingly support the reality of the physical plates. For instance, the quote about Martin Harris only seeing the plates with his 'spiritual eyes' originates from John A Clark, a minister who was antagonistic and hostile towards Mormonism
But if we look at what Martin Harris himself directly said about his experience we find something very different:
"Gentlemen, "do you see that hand? Are you sure you see it? Or are your eyes playing you a trick or something? No. Well, as sure as you see my hand so sure did I see the Angel and the plates."
When you read what the witnesses actually said (and not what other people said that the witnesses said) you come across with a very different picture. Critics often love to emphasize cherry picked quotes from the latter because they're very uncomfortable with the picture that the former paints
