  • Red wiggler worms are nature's composting machines. Compost from worms is called vermicompost and it's known to be one of the richest forms of soil there is. Vermicompost is full of microorganisms, fungi and good bacteria.
With a product called the Worm Factory 360, you can make your own vermicompost. The Worm Factory 360 uses an upward migrating system that can be continuously rotated, which makes it easy to harvest nutrient rich soil.
It allows you to turn your household food waste into valuable vermicompost and when you have healthy soil, you have happy plants that produce better quality food and bountiful yields.

Use fine ground egg shells for grit.

I have been raising worms for a decade. No need for a fancy “worm factory.” I just use COSTCO tubs. We keep it in the house, no odor. Agree with Jim’s worm farms in PA, always had luck with him.

@@live.life.simple. I agree- I've been raising worms for about 10 years in simple rubbermaid totes- MI gardener style. Pro tip- if you have an old food processor or bullet blender- shred up your scraps they go through it much faster. give them a half cup and see how long it takes them to consume, adjust accordingly. Super cool hobby that gives us the best compost around. compost tea can be watered down for houseplants and seedlings- 12 parts h2o to 1 part tea.

I personally love the Urban Worm Farm bags. I have three of them and, while they have their own foibles, I have had a lot better results over time than with any of the plastic bings. I'm on my sixth year using them.

Nice variation on freeze drying. I’ll order up some kits and get them started for my gardening friends as compost sources and for my chicken friends as a source of worms for their birds

I love that you are doing this. I got a similar one last winter. sadly my worms came DOA. they were at the post office over a weekend and froze. Uncle Jim promptly replaced and shipped them on a Monday as I requested. Not everyone has property to compost outside or space inside for a huge tub, this is the perfect alternative. I have mine on the patio as I seem to not be able to be neat. every time I open it I dribble compost. When feeding, the tray fits nicely in the upside down lid keeping the worms from escaping. If you have any old cotton t-shirts you can dampen it and use it as a blanket on top of the tray. this helps keep them moist and keep them inside. it is amazing how fast they can eat a shirt. I find the thread used for stitching as one long piece.

This unit seems like a lot of work for a small amount of compost. I get that it’s highly nutrient compost but if you have a bigger garden you might need a bigger unit with a higher turn over? Just wondering how scalable this is.

I have chickens and rabbits for the manure and we have multiple compost piles. Using the worms as live feed for the birds and for sale as bait. These are the side hustle. Have you seen the price of freeze dried meal worms? My freeze drier is going to process meal worms.

I use worm castings to start my seeds. Our garden is almost an acre, I’d need a hundred of these! Lol

Freeze drying worm castings? I'll have to stay tuned for that one! I have a hunch, they are best used fresh for the good bacteria. But I'm no worm charmer expert!

I need some info. I have a small Freeze Right machine with only 3 trays. I’m wondering where I can purchase extra trays for it. Thank you in advance.
