Great video! It is nice to see you revisiting some of your older teaching videos to integrate all the new concepts you have learned since your first broadcast. I think it is a sign of a true Martial artist, when they constantly strive to improve their techniques and the ways they can teach techniques to their students. As they say Martial Arts is a life’s journey.!

Love this. There are so many videos of people explaining zenkutsu dachi that it sometimes seems like that’s the only stance people use in Shotokan karate. And yet kokutsu dachi appears so often in so many of the kata! It’s very helpful to have a detailed and easy to understand explanation of this stance.

The stuff about hip position I really appreciated. I have also been told hips roll under, but that feels so unnatural to me, sometimes painful (i'm getting old -- 58). I think you're so right about finding that natural position, and that the "hips roll under" is to correct the main thing you see with new students, where they really have the butt way out there.

As a Chinese Kung Fu expert, I must say that Karate came from Kung Fu used in China, I’ve learned couple of martial arts techniques ‘taekwondo, Shaolin Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do, Shotokan Karate, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, Judo, Tang Soo Do, Ju-Jitsu and Ninjitsu’ but Karate is truly the best.

Very good enjoy the journey this is the way it's always be ready to strike from every position to read the enemy to be sharpened all senses to be clever to be resourceful to be fast to be confident as the man makes the art the art doesn't make the man competitions demonstrations tournaments these things matter to build one's reputation to explore vast lands in Great culture and history to come to the conclusion that it's all fun and cool stuff and that weapons are no different than a punch kick block or sweep the point to protect them to defend offense and defense is one and to strike from every position take advantage of this ability to see and always go for this sweep very good keep going strong 👊

You should check out 'No Retreat, No Surrender' from 1985.
Description: Jason, a Bruce Lee fan, sees his karate instructor/dad beaten by martial art thugs. They move to Seattle where, after humiliations, he trains with Bruce Lee's ghost so he can defend himself and others against thugs.
Starring a very young and absolutely mental Jean-Claude Van Damme as the bad guy, it has the best fighting sequences of any 80's film and is unintentionally hilarious, you have to watch it to understand it.

thanks for the information, but i would ask a few basic things. i learn Karate since i was a kid until now and i also learning En Shun Ken/Wing Chun, in Wing Chun, when we use the front hand to block or punch, the back hand must always be steady in case the block or punch is missed while in Karate when we block or punch, we have to make a Hikite.
so my question is what is Hikite actually means and used for ?
    Thank you

Is there a relationship between the Karate Back Stance and the Jujitsu Back Stance? Could this stance originate from the Kodokan? I remember seeing old movies in Black and White of people training in Tomiki Aikido, Judo and Karate under the same roof.

When did full contact bare knuckle with head punches karate competitions start and does it still exist? If it existed in pre kyokushin times then I don’t understand the purpose of kyokushin. I’ve seen some footage that’s old but can’t tell when it was from . Can someone please explain this to me !

    Hello!
I'd like to ask a question about karate in Japan....Somebody told me that this discipline had a bad reputation in Japan? This person lived in your country, has a licence in japanese language and loves Japan and its culture...I doubted it because I see that there is many practitioners, even women and children, and each event draws considerable crowds. So what is your opinino about it? Maybe it's a view of the past? Maybe it's only for some schools? Shotokan? Kyokushinkai? Or maybe it's only an opinion that can be found in the high society? Thank you for an answer!
