Telerefraction and Partnerships | A Kenya Success Story

The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation's work in Kenya introduces telerefraction technology to increase vision care access despite the lack of available, trained optometrists in the country.
Pilot study findings showed that telerefraction by trained technicians, guided by remote optometrists, proved comparable to in-person optometry at an accuracy rate of 81%.
This program in Kenya was supported by a group of Community Health Promoters and a formal technical training program of local opthalmic technologists at the Eye Rafiki Training Institute.
By bringing together a variety of sectors and collaborators, this telerefraction model can deliver vision care services and help meet the goals of the UN Resolution "Vision for Everyone".
