I agree with your opinion of the bass. I can't see why so many people call these bass light. They have a very nice amount of bass for enjoying the full range of songs. This is coming from a car audio basshead.
Great review! These are great for the price and they've often been on sale. Get a nice clean Fiio amp/dac for them or something not too expensive and it's a fine combo for a low price. I also find them slightly warm and yea, they are great for gaming and have more bass quantity than HD800. In that regard, i find my HD800S to be much closer in tonality and a much improved version of the HD598, although a bit more balanced than warm. So, if you're someone that really enjoys the 598's, you should probably get the 800S rather than 800 if you want to go high end.
The HD800's soundstage is overdone IMO. It can be great with some music, but it can be an issue when it comes to precise positioning. In general, the HD800 is a different headphone than anything else. I'll say that the HD598 has the perfect amount of soundstage. If the 600/650 had the 598's soundstage, it would be close to unbeatable as an overall headphone, for the

Jeff Cook Lol the HD800S' soundstage is the most realistic ever...
I haven't heard the 800S yet.
Jeff Cook Then why the heck did you say the soundstage is overdone .___.
"Lol the HD800S' soundstage is the most realistic ever..."
The HD800 is a different headphone than the HD800S. Nobody is talking about the S. :)
This or SHP 9500 which one is better ?
I find the m50s more extended in the treble, also the bass goes deeper! do you agree with that ?
Silentsky the m50x had more extension both ways but it was much less smooth overall.
M50's are dog shit. There are treble focused headphones, then there is knife to your ear, then there's the m50s.
How do they compare with the zen 2.0?
Ricardo Martinez the Zen 2.0 is much more warm yet detailed in the midrange.
