Nice video, I was looking for an instructional video like this.

Do you have to unplug your trolling motor to protect it while battery is charging, I want a 12 volt Terrova using the same battery for cranking a 25 HP engine and let the engine slowly recharge the battery while boat riding.

Hi J.Johnston, This Is how I have a plugged on my boat and I have no issues. 👍

Hi A S, thank for watching. Are you looking for this: ua-cam.com/video/lUcFp887_mI/v-deo.html you got to watch till the end I remove a battery for a 24v system. Let me know 🙂

I cannot find this trollbridge 24 anywhere. Are there similar products like this? I love this idea, I have a 24v trolling motor and a small 25hp merc. With this setup ill only need 2 batteries. I save weight and cash. I curious how I could tap a house charger into it when I get home.

If you connect your charger on your first battery, I don’t see why it wouldn’t charge your battery. Your charger is kind of replacing your alternator so should work. You can usually find it on Amazon but seem to be gone. Try https//12voltsplus.com

So, what if you aren't using two 12v batteries and actually have 24v batteries you need charged from a 12v alternator?

Hi thanks for watching the video 🙂. You will need to purchase a 12v to 24v converter. If the system is going to be installed inside the boat, get one that is designed to be used in a moving vehicle so that it can withstand waves and other movements on the road. Some of these converters will have different input and output options (8v, 12v, 24v, etc), so purchase one that specifically accepts 12v as input and will output to 24v.

    Hey Joe ,
Thank you for the wonderful video!
Question: can you wire your 12v accessories to either batteries?

    • @joetheboatguy5394
      @joetheboatguy5394  Рік тому +1

Hi sedali, thanks for watching. I would use the batterie closer to the outboard on the video for the accessories. I have an extra batterie reserved for that but if you don't have the space i would use the first one for accessories. :)

@@joetheboatguy5394 I have two batteries one with higher crank and one deep cycle. I assume the starter battery should be also the one closer to the outboard or the other way around?

Oh sorry I though your batteries where the same Voltage and crank amps, that's a little different. Its not really good to mismatch batteries. Its strongly recommend you do not attempt to mix battery sizes (amp-hours) and connect together. Due to differences in battery management systems and battery cell counts, there may be a charging and voltage discrepancy between batteries. You can potentially damage the batteries :(
Here's a solution for you, a little expensive one but trouble free. They do sell deep-cycle batteries with high cranking power now. Maybe get 2 of those and could resolve your problem.

Anyone had any difficulty with unit. I’m a electrician and followed all instructions and this unit still doesn’t switch to 24 volt to operate troll motor

Oh sorry to hear that, I have not heard of any problems yet on my side. Maybe try contacting Trollbridge directly. You may have a defective unit 🤔

Are both your batteries exactly the same? Same volts and amp cap? Could one of your batteries be weak? Make sure both batteries are fully healthy and functional. Is your outboard off when running your electric engine? Sorry just shooting questions to see if we can find issue. Let us know 👍

So is the troll bridge actually combining the 2 x 12v via a rectifier or something to create the 24v? Looking at running 2 x lithium batteries, but this type can't be put in series.
      Cheers

Hi Lyndon Kain, thank you for watching. I`m not sure, try contacting Trollbridge directly. I never done this on lithium batteries only on acid lead batteries. It's a very good question for Trollbridge.
