- Digital gauges. In this video, I go over the assembly process of the Dakota Digital VHX gauge set into the 68 Mustang bezel. I didn't realize that all you need is the bezel. However, wiring will be an issue. Part 2 will be on the way soon.

Although everything is digital it is nice to see the analog gauges as nothing beats the sweep of a tach and speedometer when accelerating. Thank you Barry for identifying some of the challenges we can run across.

My Dakota digital set up had 1 CAT plug from gauges to the brains of the system. All the other wires went into the brain box. Makes removing the gauges very simple. One wire to remove. Mine was installed in a 65 Fastback. Great video.

I got one of the older dakota digital gauges for my 68, have had it for years and never installed it since my mustang broke down in 2010
Both of the gauge bezels, the old black and silver are for 68 mustangs. The silver just got painted but its the standard camera case bezel.
To further elaborate, the 67 turn signal cut outs on the bezel has two openings versus a single long cut out on the 68. Also where the highbeam indicator iluminates, 67 has a small circle opening vs the pony on the 68
I save the zip lock bags for parts and label them to where they go.

I looked at Dakota digital for my 65 about 20 years ago. I imagine they have changed a lot since then. I would like to go with a wood grain bezel as it would match my deluxe pony interior. I also like the look of the Stewart Warner white face gauges though. Still not sure which way I’d like to go. I have the original gauges now, but as always, the amp meter does not work. i’m going to have to farm out the installation of wiring and gauges on my car though as deteriorating eyesight leaves me unable to do that myself at this point.
pretty sweet looking gauge setup. i wanna say the dakota has the ability to link with holley efi too if you ever decide to go that route.

Thanks for this series - I'm in the process of installing a similar DD gauges on my '66. I have an AOD transmission which they do not have an adapter for. I opted for their gps speedometer input. Does your engine temp sensor (water) insert in between the radiator fins or is it a threaded fitting? One concern I have is any stress on the little wires where they attach to the brains of the system could easily be pulled out. I'm anxious to see if you address this in your brain box install location to destress these connections.
Temp sensor is threaded. Mounts in the intake manifold.
