Classic Mustang Gauge Transformation! Installing Dakota Digital VHX Instruments

  • I'M SO STOKED ON THIS INSTALL for the AutoEdits Ford Mustang build... Dakota Digital VHX Instruments going in for the win!
    I was really worried about how to update the gauge cluster in the Mustang to offer more than just fuel and speed and a few warning lights. So I was looking at LCD panels and making a plate to mount independent gauges and the work and cost involved was overwhelming.
    And then after doing a preview video on the Painless Performance Products wiring harness going in the Large Marge soon... a few of my friends posted comments suggesting that I look at the Dakota Digital VHX products and WOW I was so impressed and happy for that discovery!
    With the VHX instruments, I'll get all of the data I need and way more and the whole system bolts into the stock gauge cluster... it's amazing!
    Here's the link to the Dakota Digital site that I ordered them from:
    www.dakotadigit...
    Plus the information straight from there...
    Thanks to several high-profile builds, the 1971-73 Mustang is gaining ground in the hot rodding community. Put yourself on top of the wave with fresh new instrumentation fitted to the stock gauge bezel and housing. Six analog gauge readouts plus an analog clock play host to dual LCD message centers capable of displaying plenty of information. Solid-state sensors are supplied, making this system an obvious choice when upgrading the drivetrain!
    Fully lit needles, backlit faces, and highly visible LCD message centers are a few of the things that you can see which set the VHX Series apart from yesterday’s traditional approach to instrumentation. A few of the features which you don’t normally see are the micro-controlled precision stepper motors, solid state sensors for unparalleled accuracy, and user-customizable display feedback, all supported by an unrivaled limited lifetime warranty which has become the standard for Dakota Digital instrumentation systems . Completely engineered and manufactured at our facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the VHX Series has completely revolutionized the instrumentation industry!

    In one of your previous clips you were asking about where to put the start button. In my 93' GT I have the fuel map selector switch in the armrest. I am thinking of moving the start button there as well. Makes a car thief scratch their head a little when they can't find the ignition. Same with my friends. LOL

    Very good video. Love the changes you have made to the Mustang. The Dakota Gage packs looks fantastic. I like it when a builder brings a classic style to current or future technoligy but retain the looks of the classic. Keep up the great work and the great videos. I watch them all.

      @@AutoEdits I love them as well. I have the PAC2800 fan controller as well. The GEN V computer only has a PWM output for fan. So the Dakota Digital controller monitors engine temp and turns the fans on and off at your preset temperatures and will shut them off based on vehicle speed

    AWESOME! Been following yah for a while- ( the maverick/viper build- that was a cool looking build) I just installed this system in my 73 Nova- best cluster I have ever installed- ease of installation al the way down to the cool features. IT will alert yah in the digital part of the display for low fuel, voltage etc. Love the build man! Excited to see yah get LM running and driving!

    Did you have to run a ground wire for the fuel sending unit from the brain? I am installing the VHX in a 65 mustang and haven’t found anything on the Fuel - since the stock sender only has the one wire and no mounting screws. Thanks

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  4 роки тому +1

      The stock sender on this vehicle has 2 wires but from what I'm reading in the instructions... your should be able to run a chassis ground to the brain. Worst case is you do a manual calibration on the sender.
