      I picked up a rando KV-32FS210 Trinitron off of the street and even using Composite on the Snes, the picture is freakin beautiful. It is so clear compared to any other TV's I owned in the past when I was growing up. I want to get a component for Snes but the cables are so expensive. Can't even find an SD2Snes or good Everdrive that emulates all games and does not cost a fortune.

    I bought a sony pvm 1942q for $150 a couple weeks ago and I love it, but these wegas are waaaay easier to find and have like 80% of the sharpness of 600 tvl pvms and have a larger screen size. The only thing that sucks about them is the geometry and corner convergence.

    So true, we're all collectors of something. Low cost crts and emulation make a hell of combo. Love the ps2. It's an underrated console imo for 240p.

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804  3 роки тому +3

      I've been thinking about doing a video on the PS2. I think it's got an undeserved reputation in the retro gaming scene.
      Recently a soft mod was developed to play ps1 CDRs. Have you tried it out?

    • @robbyjvc
      @robbyjvc 3 роки тому

      @@riggel8804 oh yeah. I acquired a phat ps2 to go along with my original slim, so I've done both the smb and hdd route.
      I use a powered usb to sata cable to connect to my pc. Don't have a ide to sata adapter yet for the og adapter so idk that process yet.
      If you need program recommendations I can give them. I use a version of this one script that let's me put ps2 isos in it's folder, And then it copies them over. That modded script let's me add over multiple copies of the same game, so I can have the normal version of Rez or Ibara, and then the deinterlaced 240p patched versions. Then I have to use a program like hdl dumper helper gui if I want to erase games, or have a list.
      With the ps1, i use pfsshell to move my popstarter vcd game files over. The hardest part about those is knowing where to put the files for POPS hdd loading but isn't that bad.
      *edit* Forgot to say this but ive used mechapwn on my slim. Works great for loading burnt ps1 games. I burn the .cue file, stick it in my slim ps2. And it works. If it doesn't boot I just reboot and try again. Didnt work with my pack of old cd-rs but I get full speed eith these verbatim discs. It might be for the other systems by now too hopefully.
      I haven't played too much 240p emus on the ps2 but I was able to have a blast with m.u.s.h.a in the genesis emu.

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804  3 роки тому +2

      @@robbyjvc You got Ibara working in 240p. I would love to do this. Beautiful game. I spent hours trying to get forced 240p working on the PS2 but I gave up. I was using an old version of FreeMcboot that lets you force resolutions. It worked but games would be cropped really weird and the 240p just didn't look right. I gave up.
      I am not interested in using popstarter because it uses an emulator.I might as well play PS1 games on my crtemudriver setup. However, recently, Bob from Retro RGB demonstrated a way to play ps1 CDRs natively on the ps2 without using the POPS emulator. I haven't tried it out yet.
      I use a fat ps2 as well with an external HD.

    • @robbyjvc
      @robbyjvc 3 роки тому

      @@riggel8804 so you're going to have hex edit the iso for ibara, or other games cause it seems like it works in a lot of em. shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=61532
      And then to move it to thd opl partition or whatever I use hdl hdd batcher. Batcher specifically is the modded version of hdl hdd batch but ignores file names and names it whatever the iso is named.
      This won't get rid of the bilinear filtering but imo it's not that bad. Music sounds a lot better than it sounds in the mame core.
      Yeah but then again pops was developed by Sony. ;)
      I'm the same way though. Once I got my pc hooked up I've been using that. Whenever I want a portable set up though a ps2 works really well.

      Yeah, as kids, we all played on CRTs that probably had visual flaws like misconvergence, bowing, and we never noticed nor cared. I never knew these flaws were even there, just enjoyed playing the games. It’s only as middle aged adults that all of a sudden the flaws are there and stand out.

    That picture looks amazing. I have a question though. In America it seems these 36 inch 4:3 CRTs are everywhere. So many videos on UA-cam of these sets. But you do not find them here in the UK at all, it's all crappy widescreen. How the hell do you move them? You always see Vids of people showing them off but you never see Vids of them moving the TVs 😁 I have 2 large 29 inch arcade monitors and they are difficult to lift with the frames to hold on to. Let alone the handle-less casings these Sonys have.

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804  2 роки тому

      You can see a black Mitsubishi in the beginning of this video. It weighs 275 lbs. It is a problem to move it. I have a rolling cart that I glued carpet to the top of. You can see it in the beginning of the video with the 36fv26 on it. That is really all you need. That and one other person to help you lift them. You have to make sure you do not set them on the ground. As long as you are sliding them off furniture onto a cart at waist high it's not a big deal. Getting a 275 lbs tv off the ground is another story.
      27 inch sonys are no problem. One man lift off the ground, whatever. Most Shadow mask tubes are one man lift as well, up to 32 inches. 32 inch Sonys and 36 inch shadow mask tubes are where you start getting into the big bois.
      And yes. 36 inch Sony Tvs where freakin everywhere 2 years ago. On craigslist, the curb, thrift store, everywhere. They are much harder to find now.
