Great video! It explains a few questions I had, especially the drone patch. A friend tried recreating the Labyrinth with VCV rack modules. He said it would cost quite a bit more to duplicate one in Eurorack. It would be REALLY great to have external CV control of the SEQ1 CV Range. You could then "play" the sequencer with a keyboard and have the notes stay relevant, more so than just changing the root note of the sequence.

It's certainly an interesting idea. On the fence about it just because I have quite a few modules in my Eurorack system already that could do a lot of what this does. Seems surprisingly useful for drum sounds and sequencing and sounds. I'll be interested to see how people integrate it in with the other MOOG semi-modular units as well as in larger Eurorack systems. The Labyrinth seems to be based around a workflow from Pamela's Workout (eurorack modular) but with a lot less real time control over it. Unless you are really into Moog stuff, there are a lot better ways to do all of this.
If what you want is a generative MIDI sequencer, it would be better to go with a Torso T-1 or Oxi One. Both cost about the same as the Labyrinth and can do what Labyrinth's sequencer can and much, much more. Longer patterns that you can save, song mode, the ability to control many synths at once, etc. The Oxi One has a few different generative modes, and it lets you have four of them running simultaneously. Loopop has done videos on both of those, but they're both out of date since he had prototypes and the firmware for the T-1 and especially the One have been upgraded significantly since then.

A review for now isn't likely but it should play nicely with the other Moogs in the family. That said, I think Labyrinth will also play very nicely with many other types of gear - modular or not, with its MIDI sync
This and Mavis in an Intellijel 4U case with the 1U Multi FX and a few utilities would make a killer couch synth. Just throw on some headphones and get lost in experimentation.
mine arrives tomorrow. plan to sync it to digitakt clock and have that record button ready to smash at any given moment. hoping i'll be able to use it to build up a little repository of loops that i can then mangle inside the Digitakt.
Not a bad price for the feature set, but not a great starting point into modular either IMHO. (That is clearly the crowd this is aimed at) For those of us already in that world my guess is few would opt for this over $600 for other modules to add to their current kit. My sense is we may see an influx of used models on the market a few months after general availability...
Great content as ever.. I was wondering whether this would interface with something like the Minibrute 2? Perhaps another interesting vlog?? Thanks Amigo..👍
My pleasure! Yes, it would interface quite nicely with an MB2. Noted regarded your request - not likely that I'll make a follow up video because I have too much lined up, but you never know!
🤔 Sort-of a limited DFAM & 32 combined with a randomized KAOS feature... 💁 I like it and think this could be employed in a live gig pretty easily, however I do wish the tempo were able to go extremely slow, and the randomness were more widespread.
I think the Labyrinth is *ok.* I feel like I can basically emulated what it does with my Eurorack setup already. There's simply too much good competition right now for me to be sold but I'm sure the Moog fanboys probably already have their orders in.
A MUCH better generative option would be a MI Marbles copy (e.g. Behringer Chaos), a clock divider; add synth voices to taste. Instant Actual music with rhythm & melody!

This reminds me, my Stylophone DS2 hasn't arrived yet.
Turing machine (expanded) > Buchla 258t > Mutable Ripples...
Nice to have that in one box without cables though...
Way cooler than the spectravox. 😅
🤔 Sort-of a limited DFAM & 32 combined with a randomized KAOS feature... 💁
I like it and think this could be employed in a live gig pretty easily, however I do wish the tempo were able to go extremely slow, and the randomness were more widespread.
I think the Labyrinth is *ok.*
I feel like I can basically emulated what it does with my Eurorack setup already. There's simply too much good competition right now for me to be sold but I'm sure the Moog fanboys probably already have their orders in.
I would prefer they reissued DFAM with midi, reset and some more modulation possiblities
CV master race
A MUCH better generative option would be a MI Marbles copy (e.g. Behringer Chaos), a clock divider; add synth voices to taste. Instant Actual music with rhythm & melody!
Hello Loopop 😊. I Completely Love Your reviews on the Moog 60hp semi modular. I am thinking I went wrong with the Tascam mixer. I Obviously didn't think about Expansion. Could You Please recomend a mixer that is Completely Capable of a Doepfer Monster case and all of the Moog devices I have obtained. This is just my Moog gear, Grandmother, Matriarch, Mother-32, DFAM (Want to get my clutches on a BFAM One Day), Spectrovox, labyrinth and soon A Spectrovox, along with the internal power 60 Hp empty Just waiting to be filled with more "Electronic Goodies" in the Words of Roger Watters (Pink Floyd, Live at Pompai) completely Amazing. I am not talking about the video.. the actual movie type where you get to know the individuals that Created Pink. If I'm correct.. I think they were the first Group/band to Ever be allowed in, let alone Perform. Jaw Dropping Amazing. Not sure exactly how we ended up on Pink Floyd? It's cool just to take the long way around 😂
Thanks for the kind words! I don't really make recommendations because it's up to you to figure out which product has what you need, and it's always going to be a compromise. I don't review mixers much but I did cover Bluebox for Eurorack and discuss some of its pros and cons there.
@loopop Thank You for Your Response 😊
I really hope this inspires a whole new wave of interest in Turing Machine modules
I really don’t want to pop out one of synths from my Sound Studio 3, but I would have to, to keep the setup manageable. The question becomes, which one to remove… I make improvisational drone.
Bummer that there’s no CV input for changing the scale, that would allow for some fun modal explorations
Software to Labyrinth sequencer: Anything you can do, I can do better!
Labyrinth sequencer to software: Except for knobs...
The synth sounds capable of nice tones. The generative sequencer seems odd but fun. Brought as I am a hopelessly addicted fanboy
Synth fans will do anything besides learn music theory
Music theory fans will do anything besides respect people who aren't salty and hostile about their hobby
@@d3tuned378 think you need to relax mate, it's not that deep
@@NamelessSmile Lol, post a toxic comment and now you're pretending I am. You literally just took an elitist stance and all I did was call you on it.
Sounds like you need to relax. I didn't start out insulting people. Just responded to yours.
@@d3tuned378 I'm also a synth fan with a very limited knowledge of music theory. If you found that toxic then you need to go outside and speak to some real humans
@@NamelessSmile Your lack of experience doesn't excuse your toxic judgements.
Your responses say it all. You can feel all the needless shame you want about your feelings of inadequacy.
The moment you toss that crap on everyone else, you become the ahole.
If you weren't feeling hostile, I see no reason for you to respond the way you did initially. You could have just clarified yourself, but instead you did the cliche "wHy sO SeRiOuS" fallback I've seen used by so many emotionally insecure and terminally unaccountable people.
My initial response to you didn't merit the venom and dismissal. If you truly felt like it was an issue of clarifying your stance, you could or should have done that rather than clapping back with rote dismissal.
Again, your attitude says it all.
