Amazing run, great commentary, great game! Has there even been a glitchless LADX speedrun at a GDQ? That could be super interesting, or even this same run on the original Link's Awakening
That's the Yoshi doll. It's usually required to start a trading side quest to get items needed for completion of the game. In regular playthroughs, you need it to read a book in the library to know how to make your way through the Wind Fish Egg at the end.
A little late to answer, but a lot of the time some information carries over between saves. In some cases you can trick the game into taking information from one to the other. This game though, all he's doing is loading the auto-save the game makes every time he picks up a key item, and that sends him back to the start of the dungeon so he doesn't have to backtrack.
Teleporting. Saving in Zelda games will almost always put you back at a start location (Link's house in Link to the Past, Temple of Time as Adult Link in Ocarina of Time) so it saves time in travelling by just saving and restarting.

I got Link's Awaking DX on my TI-84 Plus CE calculator, LOL. (It actually worked decently, and it got me through geometry)
Whose ghost was it, was the joke some gdq reference? I'm a relatively new watcher.

Just incase he dies he doesn't have to collect the items again I suppose.
I love this game. Thank you for putting this on, GDQ!
Also, why was this in the Awful games block? This game is amazingly broken!
