Saw him many times. Even called his house when Taxi came out. He donated half of what he made. One of my favorite memories was when I took my older sister to see him perform at Hewlett High School. Free admission if you bought non-perishable food. He had no airs about him. He talked to everyone and made all feel like he was a personal friend. I was supposed to see him at Eisenhower Park on the day he died. Harry, I will always love you & miss you. You can still count on the cheap seats
What a beautiful tribute to a truly great artist. Sadly, he falls into the category of the many truly talented entertainers who died too young. . Rest in peace, Harry. You are immortal.
Harry brought the spirit and truth of true charity to this human stage of existence. He gave more than he got and he got more than he ever expected because He sang from his soul and Harry Chapin echoes on for those oppressed and hungry who he never met. That's an Artist for our times and the story ring on for all of us. We are one song !!! Circles embracing oneness.
I saw Harry Chapin many many times. Had the opportunity to meet and talk with him on several occasions. It was one of the nicest, kindest, and down-to-earth celebrities I ever met. He is truly missed.
Harry had the greatest band accompaning him. His brothers Steve and Tom, Howie Fields, Yvonne Cable, Dougie Walker, and last but certainly not least, the great Big John Wallace!
Harry's final concert in Rhode Island was at the Warwick Musical Theatre, around my 6th birthday. I wrote him a letter telling him I had recently been hospitalized for two months, and had listened to his music constantly the whole time, and asked if I could come up and sing "Circle" with him when he came to RI. While that didn't happen, he wrote me a letter back - my mom still has it somewhere - and he remembered me and my letter when my dad picked me up so he could sign my cast.
I loved this man for all the reasons others have noted. There hasn't been another like him - and isn't that a sad reflection - I'm not talking about talent because he was a giant but about his love for taking care of others.
I probably saw Harry live close to 20 times and in all the years since his death I have yet to see anyone who left me with a better feeling than Harry.
I miss Harry’s music what beautiful songs he would have given us had he lived on. Such a kind and giving man. Love you Harry! Thank you for all your beautiful words. You are missed always. ♥️🙏🏼👍☮️🌹♥️😁🎶
Beautiful song. One of our sons we named John Vincent. He uses both names to this day. He will be 60 this month. Of course he wasn’t name because of the song.
I must have seen Harry more than a dozen times. Had front row tickets to see him at The Oakdale less than a week after he passed. Still have them, somehow I just couldn't return them. He probably put on the best shows of any entertainer I've ever seen. You could not see a Harry show and not leave with a smile on your face. Too this day my wife still can't listen to his music, she says it gets her too upset. Miss you Harry! We sure could use you today!!
Harry Chapin always put on great concerts with alot of audience participation! I'm glad I got to see him concert two times: In 1980, after the concert I got to shake his hand, talk to him briefly--and I remember the quick conversation, and take pictures of him, Tom Chapin, his father, etc! The last time I saw him in concert in 1981 was about 2 months before his death-if not less than that! Love you Harry, and band, BobbyK
Listen to my sweet Harry’s music again... he sings and his words make me smile and happy...he touches my heart and soul with every word. Love and miss you Harry but you live on in your music. Thank you. 😊🙏🏼♥️
I listen to Harry often always warms my heart! Lord I miss his talent such a great man gone too soon! Thank you Harry Chaplin and crew! You are so wonderful! RIP ♥️🌹🙏🏼🎶😊
All his songs torn holes in my heart and makes me feel sad, they capture those so called hidden feelings every-time. He embraces the audience and all his crew always.
The BEST SONGWRITER OF ALL TIME AND THE BEST PERFORMER OF ALL TIME TOO!!! He is missed by millions of people. REST IN PEACE HARRY AND KEEP THE CHANGE!!!!
+Jay Kneissler'I got to see him in the early 80s in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Halloween Night. He was wonderful! I didn't really know what I was seeing. You don't appreciate it until it's gone.
How I wish Harry was still here singing to us with more beautiful lyrics. I listen here often love you Harry and your band so lovely! Touching words that touch us all so deep. Thank you 🙏🏼♥️🎶☮️🦋
I was 14 when I saw him in concert and he did sing Circle. I was in the front row center and he played like I was the only one there- heaven! I had an autographed album that was lost to the years, I played it to death. One of the few regrets I have is that I didn't go see him again when I was 16; the next I knew, he was gone, and we were down a troubadour. what a loss!
between him and old cat or Youssef have been my favorites for so long. I can remember the first time I listened to him. Thanks heaps Harry and thankyou for posting this music.
Beautiful lyrics. I often sing with a hoarse throat just because music makes me happy. This man seems to receive a lot of happiness from songs and poetry. Also has contributed many dollars and time to world hunger. Also curly hair on a man looks very sexy.
I saw Harry 9 times in the MA area. The first was a free concert on Boston City Hall Plaza from WRKO. The last was the best. He was scheduled for two show at the SS Music Circus in Cohasset. I had tix for show 2, which he needed to postpone because of another committment. He rescheduled, and came back for the last show of the year at the Music Circus and sang well past the curfew. He said screw it.....he owed it to us. It was great. I had tix the following year, but he never made it.
This man was transcendent to music. One of the great people of all time. Musicians today only dream of equaling his capacity to give to others. Like lovepigs, I met, but also knew Harry. He was, when he died, trying to get me signed to his record company Boardwalk Records. That was Harry.. whenever he had a nano-second (which wasn't often, with all the charity events he did), he was ALWAYS trying to mentor new talent. His live shows had to be seen in person to get the true vibe of the guy
I was lucky enough to see him on his first time in St. Louis. I am not sure, but I think it was 1972. I fell in love that night and never missed a concert within driving distance until he died. I often wonder what kind of songs he would be writing now. Songs about Grandchildren and mortality. Remember the songs about his kids, "Tangled Up Puppet", "Dancing Boy". His, 'I Want to Learn a Love Song?" A Harry Chapin concert is the closest I have come to feeling spiritual in a secular setting.
I saw Harry a few times the last being at the "Bottom LIne" in New York. I was fortunate to be dating a woman who worked for Rolling Stone magazine and as such we had front row reserve seats. It was the winter of 1981 and he was on the sequel tour. I got to speak with him after the show and he remembered me from years back as I had handed him a token during the song Taxi at his of Broadway play "The Night That Made America Famous." It was an awesome moment and to this day I can still feel the pain of his loss less than 6 months later. It had all seemed so surreal! His legacy lives on as there has never been a Master Storyteller since. His music is as relevant today as it was then and I guess that timelessness is what makes it so great...Peter
Peter - did you know they released recordings of the nights at Bottom Line in '81? They're all on iTunes. Might be a cool thing for you to hear :) cheers!
This isthe first time I'veheard the entire front part of "... Song." In the Gold Medal Collection you hear the last line: "After all is said and done, you're the one song that I need," going right into "Circle." (Also like your coment "Done withojut Birds." I know what you mean, but it inspires arewrite of "She Sings Songs Withot [Birds] Words.") Yvonne also sings in the "Gold Medal Collecion."
He played Blossom Music Center between Akron and Cleveland, Ohio either right before or right after this TV show. I decided to go at the last minute. It had been a rainy washout of a day all-day, and Harry had played the area earlier in the year so I guess he had over-saturated the market. I was able to get a pavilion seat as a walk-up right before the show which was sparsely attended, only about 4,000 for a venue that can hold nearly 20,000 outside and inside. Four thousand only about half fills the pavilion and there were some people out on the soggy lawn, so it was pretty empty. It was a very anti-climatic sort of experience, and I also believe it was the last time Harry played Northeast Ohio. A year later I went back to Blossom to hear John Denver in concert, about three weeks after Harry died, and he dedicated "I Want to Live" to Harry. They had both been on Jimmy Carter's Presidential Commission on World Hunger. RIP to both Harry and John. To this day I get paranoid about any performer I really like having something like that happen to them.
I still miss Harry 40 plus years later.
Me, too.
Saw him many times. Even called his house when Taxi came out. He donated half of what he made. One of my favorite memories was when I took my older sister to see him perform at Hewlett High School. You can ALWAYS count on the cheap seats. Thanks Allie, I had forgotten about that.
Loved his music super guy
Fancy meeting you here, Allie! #whenindoubtdosomething

I spent 0h about 6 hours watching every Doc. on Harry Chapin today. Makes me miss someone terribly that I never even met!
I saw Harry Chapin many many times. Had the opportunity to meet and talk with him on several occasions. It was one of the nicest, kindest, and down-to-earth celebrities I ever met. He is truly missed.

Anytime I have a mental break down, I end up listening to Harry Chapin and he breaks it up and makes me feel better.
I loved this man for all the reasons others have noted. There hasn't been another like him - and isn't that a sad reflection - I'm not talking about talent because he was a giant but about his love for taking care of others.
Harry is forever missed! But his music lives on! 😢❤️🎶
I probably saw Harry live close to 20 times and in all the years since his death I have yet to see anyone who left me with a better feeling than Harry.
HE IS THE REAL DEAL....HIS HEART IS IN FRONT FOR ALL TO SEE & HEAR....HE STILL IS (not was)....THE BEST!!!
I miss Harry’s music what beautiful songs he would have given us had he lived on. Such a kind and giving man. Love you Harry! Thank you for all your beautiful words. You are missed always. ♥️🙏🏼👍☮️🌹♥️😁🎶
Charlotte Shumate - He GAVE us “what beautiful songs”...let us be grateful & satisfied!
Love this song. After he passed, it was TWO FULL YEARS before I could listen to this song without weeping...
Beautiful song. One of our sons we named John Vincent. He uses both names to this day. He will be 60 this month. Of course he wasn’t name because of the song.

"... but when you sing from the inside, you hope that somethin' shows..."
It did, Harry... it did. Keep the change, bro.

I sang this song to my grandma one Thanksgiving when I lived in Vegas. She was my circle......................
The BEST SONGWRITER OF ALL TIME AND THE BEST PERFORMER OF ALL TIME TOO!!! He is missed by millions of people. REST IN PEACE HARRY AND KEEP THE CHANGE!!!!
Brings tears to my eyes. He is needed more today then ever before !
First 45 my mom/dad ever played for me...i was 5! 35 yrs later Harry never gets old.
The late great Harry -> all my life , he got me though some tough time, he was really good - died in a car wreck sad, wish I saw him live
+Jay Kneissler'I got to see him in the early 80s in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Halloween Night. He was wonderful! I didn't really know what I was seeing. You don't appreciate it until it's gone.

Makes me feel like it was just yesterday and not over 30 years ago! His music definitely lived on beyond him.

He did indeed, and he'd autograph literally ANYTHING if you'd make a contribution to fight world hunger. And I DO mean ANYTHING.
I imagine he never had much money, he donated probably most the money he earned, he truly put his money where his mouth was.
Incredible talent! It's amazing how many lives one person can touch

I still miss Harry!
I have wonderful memories of his concerts (saw him twice).

Reminds me of 1987-88 High School with the gang
I love you Harry, I wonder who I met in 2004?
Harry is the man
A mans entertainer. Sensitive yet musically straight forwardly an honest artist.
You cant always be happy with a circle and he is not!
Amen
Yep.
6:57 She was getting on the roll. She could have gone another round or two. 😂
got to see him in concert I type so fast, and never check for typos and bad grammar sorry :+)
Do you have or could you make a recording of 'Circle' by itself? I would like it for my grandchildren...
@JettRink50 You might have met one of his brothers
Give me shils!
beter place to be canged my life
