" I finally like myself " ...it took me 55 years to accept that line. Find it in your own soul. Harry did so many years ago. God Bless his empath soul. What a timeless amazing soul !
Although I lost count of exactly how many times I saw Harry Chapin live (it was probably close to 50 times all throughout Ontario and more times than I can remember at Toronto’s Massey Hall), I was at this show. Never in a million years did I think it would be the last time. A couple of years before, I had the pleasure of meeting Harry at Tom’s show at The Riverboat. As I write this comment and watch Harry and the band perform Sequel, the tears are streaming down my cheeks. There will never be another Harry Chapin. If there is really a heaven, I hope I meet you there. God bless you...
I was lucky enough to be in the 10th row center seat when this was taped at Hamilton Place. It was the first time I heard "Sequel" I still get shivers when I hear it!
Wow! I never knew he did a sequel to the song "Taxi" which is one of my all time favorite Harry Chapin songs. What a poet this man was. Taken away too soon, too soon.
I loved this as much as I love Taxi because this is how life really goes. always playing "What if..." over and over in our heads. He was a great Life Writer. Thanks Harry.
Did you know that Harry Chapin donated his take for every other concert he and his band performed? Food for people. He used to say that Thanksgiving day should be every day. Referring to giving food to other people just at Holiday time.
Elliott R .... I'm not a popular person in the near-bottom community I survive in .... Many residents make a career of panhandling and constantly expect me to give away cigs & booze .... My in-your-face question is .... What & how much did YOU give to someone else today ? .... [Talk about hearing a pin drop !]
I'm listening to this song... while i also listen to the bliss full sounds of my soulmate sleeping. We are just truly starting our lives together... it has taken a long time for us to find each other .. even though we known each other for 2 decades... Harry's songs all have something to say.... so .. People .. Sit... Watch.... Listen and enjoy. We miss you Harry.... Stopping to smell the roses... He would appreciate that
As a former taxi driver of 30 years this hits close to home as this does really happen, first time hearing the sequel, brought tears to my eyes. RIP Harry.
Some of the most meaningful times of my late teens/early twenties was bringing cans of food to the Hartford Civic center, or @ the Jai Alai, to partially pay for our tickets. Friendliest performer we ever knew. Would sit in the lobby after the show, voice hoarse from a long set - and would stay for an hour or more - just talking. I'm man enough to admit I cried when the announcement came over WDRC, one of Harry biggest supporters, that he was gone. The world changed a little bit that day.
I got to see the love of my life for the first time in 20 years and I loved to see her smile and see where our dreams that were filled ... some times you cant find all the answers but you what I found my soul for once in 20 years and I know now which way to go ... I love you girl and I always will!! ,, It is our journey between heaven and hell.
Can't even describe how these two songs have touched my life and I don't even know why because I don't have any experience remotely close to this. Perhaps because he was thoroughly a product of the 70s, a unique time in America that you had to have lived to understand. Harry, you left us much too soon.
This one of those rare songs that makes you think about where you have been....and the ability to look back and see how far you have come....rather it be good or bad.
"and the look on her face when she opened the door was like an old joke told by a friend. It had taken ten more years before she found her smile and I watched the corners start to bend" She said I heard you flying high on my radio and I answered it's not all it seems. That's when she laughed and said it's better sometimes when we don't get to touch our dreams" " " When I asked her why she looked so happy now she said I finally like myself...at last I like myself"
This song had nothing to do with soulmates. Soulmates would have recognized each other right away. This and taxi are about just going through the motions of living a life that is nothing like the one you had planned to live when you were young and full of optimism and hope. How some people escape reality in whatever way they can: putting on a false face; smoking pot. They won't be truly happy until they're happy with themselves, until they like themselves.

perhaps, he should have left the taxi, after recording the original, which I so very much love.. this feels like it's trying too hard to revive a bitter/sweet love affair, that should have been left where it ended, with all its original roses and thorns intact.
@@Doobie1975 you won't be disappointed. It rocks!! The lyrics are awesome! It is not better Taxi but I say it is better than "Cats in the Cradle" which I absolutely love. Anyway enjoy it!
I can't believe it, all these years and I never heard this continuation of his iconic song. At first I thought '"cool" but the more I listened the more I thought it was a mistake. Whatever they had once was gone. That story ended with him holding a 20 and her walking to her mansion. This song ruins that imo.

R.I.P. Harry Chapin, this song along with Cats and the Cradle were two of the greatest songs of the 70s.
He died way too early!

Truly meaningful songs. Important songs. You want to make sure that your kids hear these.
I saw him perform in Las Vegas in 78. It was a great show
Harry finally likes himself. That's all that really matters in the end.
Thanks for the show. I saw Harry at 18, now 52. Thanks for the music , the laughs and the tears.
Don't understand why he is'nt played more on the radio. These kids today could learn a lot about song writing from him.
