Tori plays "Baker Baker" here a half step lower than the recording. She's never done this on her many live releases of the song, nor does she typically change keys of things other than for medley purposes. Tori Amos is to the music world what the North Star ⭐️ is to the sky. If you don’t step outside at night and look up you’ll miss it. Been staring at this beautiful star since 1994!
This intimate powerful performance cut through 29 years and tore open all the emotions of the then younger me, everything amplified instead of being subdued by time. This is the greatest gift of artists such as Tori Amos.
The tenderness Tori shows the Bosendorfer and the Wurlitzer after Baker Baker and Ocean to Ocean, and then the sudden slap after the catharsis of 29 Years, like "Thanks, you got me." That hit hard. Thanks Tori and NPR for this beautiful session. After 10 years without a Tori live experience I'm looking forward to two shows in March. Like so many others, T changed my life, educated me, guided me, comforted me. "So you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts, what's so amazing about really deep thoughts, boy you best pray I bleed real soon, how's that thought for you?" - everything changed after hearing that on the radio in 1991. Thank you Tori.
It's done in her studio, and the mic placement is amazing for her lead in to "Baker Baker", its great to hear the power of the low tones of a properly produced piano recording.
@@Internutt2023 A piercing performance, very sad notes can be heard, as if Tory is sad for the times when “Baker Baker” was written, or so it seemed to me. And yes, the piano sounds divine.
Every person can appreciate something about this artist. I listen to mostly jazz, rap, blues, classical, salsa, Afrobeats, rock, soul, but this artists voice touches something deep inside

My relationship with her newer music is different than her earlier work, but there is still nothing like seeing music pour out of her and her piano. Magic in real time.
Literally just heard the piano intro & had to go back to the beginning to hear it again. It was so intense, could like feel it and she hadn't even started singing yet. I love how raw she is because it's like I can feel what she's feeling
I fist heard Baker Baker as a teenager, and along with The Cure, it completely shaped who I am today. This version made me cry just as hard as the first time I heard it.
My 5 yr old daughter "Thanks dad, that cheered me up!" Not that she's an unhappy soul. I just wanted to see whether she really has an appetite to play the piano :-) Thank you from me too, Tori!
Ditto! Pele was my first album-saw her MTV unplugged show which opened with Blood Roses and couldn’t get it out of my head. Have been a fan ever since! She’s still writing amazing stuff. Saw her in 2015 (?) and was right up in front of the stage, it was great! Was bummed to see the new slate of US shows didn’t include Miami, but I get it. Knowing how much the pandemic affected her, as well, has made her music resonate even more with me (didn’t think that was even possible!)
Fell in love with Tori Amos when her first album, Little Earthquakes came out all those years ago. I was 17. Today I'm 51 and still absolutely adore her.. Amazing artist that left me with so many amazing memories over the years.. Tori Amos, you rock!
"Ocean to ocean / where have I been / while all of this has been escalating?" is one of the humblest lines she's ever written, and that's saying a lot considering how introspective she her lyrics often are.
I've been a huge fan of Tori since I was a teenager in the 90s- she's definitely one of those legit artists that isn't just a one hit wonder or flavor of the month.
What a goddess! Tori's songs have been, and always will be, healing, liberating, and empowering for so many people. Her music is both medicinal and mystical. I'm so thankful for her wisdom, her talent, and her generous spirit. ❤
Get the feeling that the Tori community would have one massive party together bonded by the strength of emotion and human experiences. Much more so than with any other artist I can think of. We all have our stories and somehow Tori captures the spirit of it in her music. Tears on my pillow.

It’s so inspiring to see her still doing live shows after all this time. The way the two pianos works as a metaphor as a linking between the two oceans
Saw Tori in Madison WI at the Barrymore decades ago now during college at UW Madison. This is a real treat!!! Thank you for the ‘at home’ concerts while we are still losing 2000-2500 people a day in the US to COVID. It is so heartening to see beautiful art in safe conditions!

OMG. That was amazing. 29 Years. How Beautiful. Made me cry. I haven't loved a Tori song like this in a while. I feel like she came back to something in the pandemic, something I wasn't feeling in her music for a while, funnily, I think I also felt distanced from it in myself -- that something -- and this song talks about recovering lost aspects of self. And the part about Athena and Posiedon and Medusa -- wow, that myth has so much meaning. I feel like my own healing journey is mirrorred in the trajectory of her songs, going from victim to this healing place, and in and out of them, something I also feel with LDR. Really really beautiful. I will be listening on repeat.

Tori Amos is to the music world what the North Star ⭐️ is to the sky. If you don’t step outside at night and look up you’ll miss it. Been staring at this beautiful star since 1994!
What a lovely comment, so true x
“29 years” is an instant classic!! Thanks, Tori 💙
This beautiful woman's music changed my life forever!
My god this sounds so incredible. We all know what a star Tori is, but kudos to the audio engineers that take it to a magical level.
It's done in her studio, and the mic placement is amazing for her lead in to "Baker Baker", its great to hear the power of the low tones of a properly produced piano recording.
Yes, the sound engineer was so good she married him! ❤️☺️ In her element 100% here, at home. ❤ The acoustics are lush. Just heavenly sound. ✨

A piercing performance, very sad notes can be heard, as if Tory is sad for the times when “Baker Baker” was written, or so it seemed to me.
And yes, the piano sounds divine.
There's just no one like her... whatever, wherever... it's a pleasure to hear her
Jesus... BEAUTIFUL.... Thank you mothering me Tori...I love you
Every person can appreciate something about this artist. I listen to mostly jazz, rap, blues, classical, salsa, Afrobeats, rock, soul, but this artists voice touches something deep inside
! I discovered her as a teenager, before I even had the opportunity (via the internet, life, and time/evolution) to get into lots of other music and artists... and now I'm 32, and she twinkles "so hard" for me, so much harder than she did when I was 13. her work grows with you.
Random click, no regrets ! This has to be one of the most relaxing performance I ever heard 🤗
Welcome to the wonder world of Tori Amos. Always inspiring authentic and full of heart
Editing note: "As Amos begins "Baker Baker," a fan favorite from her 1994 debut album Under the Pink" -- Under the Pink is her sophomore album. Her debut was of course Little Earthquakes.
I was going to mention that as well @faxman
Boys for Pele not shabby either
@@mikah4812 my fav of hers
Tori Amos is one of the most talented artists of this generation. Truly unique music that continues to inspire and move people who have heard her perform. Her songs are conceptually compelling and personal. And she’s a lovely human being.

Bump 🔝
My life wouldn't have been the same without Tori. Thank you so much.
🥲 Same here 💖
I only wish this performance was 5X longer… I love hearing her solo on the piano and introducing every song. Thank you for this performance and this recording. It was music I needed to hear.
we all can channel the spirit source .... Tori seems to do it efforelessly.
My relationship with her newer music is different than her earlier work, but there is still nothing like seeing music pour out of her and her piano. Magic in real time.
Agreed 👍 ❤
Literally just heard the piano intro & had to go back to the beginning to hear it again. It was so intense, could like feel it and she hadn't even started singing yet. I love how raw she is because it's like I can feel what she's feeling
Long Live Tori! Ears with Feet since 1998. I know I'm not alone in saying that her music saved my life. 🍻💕
I fist heard Baker Baker as a teenager, and along with The Cure, it completely shaped who I am today. This version made me cry just as hard as the first time I heard it.
One of the most incredible artists I have heard in a long time...cannot understand why she isn't more renowned.
Genius, prodigy, incredible lyricist, icon and basically the living legend!!!!!!!!Tori Amos is going to live forever!
My 5 yr old daughter "Thanks dad, that cheered me up!" Not that she's an unhappy soul. I just wanted to see whether she really has an appetite to play the piano :-) Thank you from me too, Tori!
Been a fan for close to two decades and I'm always in absolute awe that she can pull improvs out of the air like she does. Chills. Every. Time.
Same here. Bought my first Tori album when i was 14. I'm 36 now. Chills, every time.
She is of course one of the greatest artist ever. Singer, pianist, poet, composer - Gesamtkunstwerk!
Tori is just magical when she starts playing on the piano. This is wonderful!
Every hair on my arm is standing up, timeless voice, timeless songs, she's better than ever. I love her❤️
Tori, you have been a lifeline for me since the 90's and your music means everything to me! It is SO good to see you with your piano. Love you! ❤️
Tori has been in my heart for 29 years.
I've been a huge fan of Tori since I was a teenager in the 90s- she's definitely one of those legit artists that isn't just a one hit wonder or flavor of the month.
Everyone go buy tickets to see her. You will NOT be disappointed. Tori is a genius artist.
What a goddess! Tori's songs have been, and always will be, healing, liberating, and empowering for so many people. Her music is both medicinal and mystical. I'm so thankful for her wisdom, her talent, and her generous spirit. ❤
Tori forever captivating the audience, and taking us for a deep dive within her waves of key and word 🌊🎹🖤✨
I wasa at her first NYC concert.1992!!
She is absolute magic.
Get the feeling that the Tori community would have one massive party together bonded by the strength of emotion and human experiences. Much more so than with any other artist I can think of. We all have our stories and somehow Tori captures the spirit of it in her music. Tears on my pillow.
Glad I'm not the only one who burst into tears as soon as she sang, "Baker, Baker..."
How on earth did I miss this?! UA-cam algorithm, thank you. I cant believe i got to see her for the first time in a small church in cambridge, ma in 1992. She never ceases to pull the chills ans tears from me. Im in my late 40s now and songs like Baker, Baker hit me different. Thank you Tori, for all youve given your fans all these years. Don't know where I would be without you. Have a beautiful day everyone ❤
It’s so inspiring to see her still doing live shows after all this time. The way the two pianos works as a metaphor as a linking between the two oceans
My favorite since 1996. She's amazing and brilliant. Her songs spoke to me then and continue to speak to me now...29 Years... OMG
I saw her in the Sydney Opera house. She is incredibly talented
This is the version of 29 years I wanted. So good.
❤ Miss You Tori! Hopefully see you soon in Amsterdam 🙏
As ever: brilliant, inspiring, challenging, emotionally-charged music from one of our greatest singer-songwriters!
Beautifully expressed. Return to myth.
This is my all-time favorite Tiny Desk concert!
first class. especially "baker baker" sounds like a hymn in this confusing times...
have known her since 1992. and am happy to meet her again right now!
The piano is a natural part of her body.
I love you Tori. Don't know where I'd be today with out you.
What a glimpse into her soul. The way she touches the instruments after the final note. It's incredibly moving. It's like she is thanking the gods/godesses of music. Really felt genuine not performative.
Yes, I have noticed that for years. She has a spiritual, emotional connection to her instrument .
How can anyone not be moved to your soul listening and watching her, she is the heaviest artist ever imho
