when they came through Memphis where i live, on the tour for their first album, they all hung out behind the club afterwards, and were really chill and fun to talk to . Later that night at like 3 AM, Serj showed up at our house party in a car with a cpl friends of mine (we were all in local bands, and worked at the club as stagehands and similar). The album all these songs are off of (Toxicity) was my first SOAD album and I listened to the whole thing front to back easily a thousand times. EVERY song is a banger.

I'm an ageing creaky old rocker and I'm so happy to be on this journey with you. Music is the universal language that can unite the world, nothing stands in its way. Geographical distance, time zones, anything. Enjoy, brother. Many years ago when I was young, another old creaky ageing rocker said something to me that holds true in many other areas of music. He said "many people listen to Hendrix, only some hear...". Certain other bands are the same, System, Rage and so on. Keep on listening but more importantly, keep on hearing my friend.
i absolutely love deer dance... hard to say its my favorite soad song though because when i have that thought i end up just listening to all their albums again
System down was legitimately one of my top favorite bands in high school. It’s one of the reasons I started paying attention to politics all around the world.
My aunt bought me Toxicity when I was in the 3rd grade for my birthday because I just got a Walkman cd and asked for it. Still one of my favorites 20 years later and helped shape my worldview as a teenager
Of course you are not, you evoked memories bro․ I spent last months of 2001 and almost whole 2002 in listening toxicity album again and again. I know every songs number in the album by heart :) Jet Pilot was after deer dance and was scared the shit out of me back in the day.
@@vin-souza thats fair. Me personally, I've never enjoyed a live version unless I was actually watching it live. But as long as he's being introduced more and more to SOAD, I guess I can't complain too much.
@@hernanmontes422 me too, some bands like system and rage I prefer live, in the case of system I really prefer live versions, especially from 2005 onwards Just a few like Roulette, Hypnotize, Lonely Day, Tentative, Radio Video, I might prefer more recent performances
Deer Dance is my favorite SOAD song, other than Aerials. SOAD’s music is often focused on politics. Deer Dance they reference the 2 incidents at the Staples Center; one protest where police used riot gear and one following a Rage Against the Machine concert where police used riot gear on concert goers. Additionally, they reference “Deer Dance”, a practice of honoring deer before a hunt. “A deer dance, invitation to peace, war stating your the face”. I think that it is a juxtaposition between peaceful protest, and police response with violence. I love them.
Damn another SOAD reaction on the same day! I look forward to you finishing the rest of the album, but B.Y.O.B. or A.D.D. should definitely be on your list. 🤘🤙🖖
These guys have been almost a daily listen for me for 20 years now. Love them. Depending on the day i coyld have about 20 favorite system songs. But Toxicity is on of the greatest albums of all time
Heckyeah gotta love this song brotha. Takes me back to my childhood man. I'm so glad to see people still loving it the way I did when I 1st heard them.
Knowing you you seem to like the history of things, this song is about the 1992 DNC Riots in LA. Rage Against the Machine was playing a concert near Staples Center, where Bill Clinton was about to be nominated for Pres. The city tried to prevent it, but was denied by the courts as a violation of free speech. So the city confined the concert to a small 3-sided area. Riot police made the fourth wall. By being there, it's beloved that thier presence lead to unnecessary escalation that resulted in the police using rubber bullets as crowd control. Rage Against the Machine has been known to tour with System of a Down.
this band is one of my inspirations to make music. they taught me that you can truly be innovative and createful. don't be afraid and push the boundaries of what you can do. Truly inspiring.
I had exactly the same reaction upon hearing their songs for the first time. Ever since then, when I watch the news and I hear talk about ongoing wars, politics, protests etc. System's music is always at the forefront of my mind, are we being told the truth, how is it being reported from the other side etc. It is amazing how their music is so relatable to what has gone on, what is going on and how history repeats itself if there continues to be no change.
Really cool to see someone with no experience appreciate something I've loved my entire life. Please make a point to see something like this live. It's the best.
I am feeling you dude! They have so many great songs, it's crazy!!!! Love that band so much. Was able to visit their last concert and said to myself I will go next time and didn't realize it was their last one.
As he said in other SOAD reactions, he goes for the live versions because it's easier to not get striked for copyright. And he also said (even in the beginning of this video) that he got the album and listens to the the songs he aldready reacted to.
I remember sitting alone in my room painting Warhammer 40k figures with this album on repeat. Toxicity and Chop Suey were some of the first 2 tracks I learned on drums. SOAD radicalized me without me realizing it. It's music I felt in my soul before I had the knowledge to fully appreciate both their lyrics and musicality. They led me to later read Zinn and Marx, and are probably the only reason I knew about the Armenian Genocide. SOAD is arguably one of the most important bands of the 20th/21st century.
So glad you've discovered SOAD! I had them on repeat back in the 2000s. I still listen to them every now and again too. They really haven't realeased a single bad song, but this one is one of my favourites. BYOB should be on your list next!
This album is one of the most amazing records start to finish of all time. I sucks you in you and and forces you to listen with you emotions. SOAD is one of the few recent bands to do that for entire records. You'll be neck deep re-listening for a while. I was late to the party here too.
