Krillin referring to being "tambourined" is a callback to his first death back in DragonBall, where Demon King Piccolo's creation Tambourine wrecked him in a mostly offscreen fight. In a related note, the "stronger than Krillin" line is likely a reference to the fact Krillin has never won one of the martial arts tournaments in DragonBall, or even beaten any of the known champions.
He didn't "wreck him in a mostly offscreen fight". In fact, there wasn't even a fight, most likely. Krillin was already laid up in the hospital from a previous fight, and Tambourine just snapped his neck and left. That was Krillin's first time dying, with Namek being the 2nd. And this happened COMPLETELY off-screen.

Tien got a legit one up on Cell that he never got revenge for and only got to move on because Tien ran out of energy to sustain it. He embarrassed the fuck out of Cell as a “mere human”
I feel like its less about respect and more about defiance. Tien defied Cell where Yamcha didn't. It shows more a crack in Cell whos getting annoyed that a weak, pathetic human not only tried to stand up to him, but was able to.
If im correct, the reason Hercule is always so adamant about not believing all the Ki stuff is because when he was just a student, his master, was killed by someone who used a Ki technique (most likely someone from the Crane Hermit School since they did assassination stuff with their Ki attacks) and since his master was the strongest fighter he knew, he came to the conclusion that the killer must have used some kind of cheap special effect trick to defeat, and kill, his master.
