Great demo! I used to have the noble and it’s great. I traded it for an Arkham oracle and have been very impressed. Really enjoy it and I like the more tonal controls offered. Thanks, Tim

Several great Preamps but the Oracle jumped out at me the most. I have owned the Super Pre and the Noble so I know they are good.

I've got the Caveman Audio BP1 Compact and I love it. I've got that going into an Orange AD200 head, so I get the tube goodness. But I really enjoyed the Arkham in this demo. Nice work.

I agree, these are all excellent, you couldn't go wrong with any of them. I'm very happy with my Oracle and would love to have a Noble too.

A golden age for preamps. There's many small boutique makers like Master Effects and Sushi Box that make great relatively lower priced units.

Many, many thanks for the nice round of selected preamps! I really liked the sound of the Arkham so much, it would be great for my taste!
Here I also became aware of Caveman, these products are easy obtainable in Europe, Arkahm on the other hand (unfortunately) not. For me, Caveman is recognisably in the shadow of Arkham. Noble is great but not in my price range.
Caveman has a big plus with the very well thought-out connection section, which includes FX send/return and combines this with D.I., then the tuner output and the perfectly solved question of the power supply (both with BP1 compact and BP1). Arkham leaves the power supply solution to all customers outside North America, which further increases the cost of commissioning the Arkham. In this respect, Arkham clearly falls behind Caveman. If I take these technical details into account in addition to the sound, Caveman BP1 now also comes into focus for me. A headphone output for silent practice would also suit the products of both providers very well.

Whatever you dialed in on the Nobel @ 5:34 sounded great.

John, Excellent demo. Thank you very much! I'm ready to pull the trigger on the Oracle but was wondering if it is very noisy when idling? I'm playing DI into the board at our church which has a huge JBL array speakers and the FOH guys are very picky about excess noise. Thanks !!

Thanks for making this demo. Still undecided on what i want to get when the time comes, but i now know that i can order a BP-1 Compact from your store online. 😁 the Arkham Zephyr is my pick if i want to stay within the rack mount preamp realm, but the BP-1 Compact is my top choice. The 1073 sound is just perfect for my tastes
Edit: The Oracle is HEAVENLY. I know the Zephyr and the Oracle are supposed to be the same thing in different packages, but man does that pedal sound incredible. Really tough choice. Kinda want the Oracle over the BP-1 Compact now. 😂

I use a BP1 Compact with gain cranked, which (unsurprisingly) is one of my favourite tones demoed here. The Oracle also sounds nice, I might have to look at trying one some time. I also want to try a JT Amps Alpha DI. I didn't really care much for the others, especially for the price they go for.

What a great video! I own a Noble and an Arkham Zephyr and I think I actually prefer the latter for having more character but finding settings is more difficult due to more possibilities. (Though there is no bad setting on this preamp!). The Noble is killer on a pedal board though and when I have to have a superb clean DI signal, there is nothing better. Quick question: What strings do you have on that first Fender P Bass? I really like the sound of it.

All great. For the Noble there is no bass boost but only a bass cut, the Deep is a "normal" setting but disengage it cut bass (Noble creator explain that on a Tim Lefebvre video)
Would love to hear the Capo in your hand too

Thank you very much for the correction, I did not know that. That explains why I like it so much better with it always on (the 'normal' setting, I guess.)

On the jazz bass. bp1 big and small again lacked crisp bass. Noble was a step up and presented a better balance across all strings. The Arkham. Mids seemed rolled off but where there when you played a little harder and on slap. Bridge pickup had that sweet jaco bell. That was money. Bergantino very pleasant warm sound. bass a bit muddy but could be an eq thing.

Now chain all of the pre amps together and test them all at once :) Ultimate Bass Preamp! Lol. Just kidding. I was surprised by the Arkham. I thought that sounded really great. I just received the BP1 and when I threw a Cali76 Compressor on it was outstanding! Can't wait to try it with the BC-1. Enjoy life Down Under (throw another shrimp on the barby for me).

    Tubey, or not tubey?
    That is the question.

  • @digeratadesign
    @digeratadesign Рік тому

The Arkham steals the show. Warms up the Dingwall. Sounds like pbass on rocket fuel. Noble redfines the low end and the mids come alive but warm and tubey. BP1 compact sounds muffled comparitively. I would not put them in the same class as your back row. BP1 big brother more open than compact but ho hum compared to back row.
