OSW Review HD they both want Yokozuna both feel the other can beat yoko therefore to get to see who gets the revenge heat they coin flip for yoko the title is kinda secondary in that moment because both have prior history with yoko and need to prove they can beat him to justify them being able to be champ in the first place

I'm disappointed y'all didn't point out the excellent troll job during introductions for the opening bout.
Fink: "You're opening contest is set for one fall. First, from CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA...."
Crowd erupts expecting Bret Hart. Guys in the back wait a few seconds, then cue up Owen Hart's theme. Crowd boo uproariously.
Brilliantly delicious.
Vince is also a fucking idiot, as he says "I THOUGHT IT WAS THE HITMAN" as Owen's theme is blasting in the background

Now, this technology is new to me, but...I'm pretty sure that's Lex Luger in the oven, rotating slowly. His body temperature has risen to over 400 degrees, he's literally stewing in his own juices.
Hey, that's a half-truth!
I don't even watch wrestling actively anymore but this guys combined with the video footage is so fucking entertaining. It's also a great time capsule of wrestling as a whole. Keep it going guys!

I quit watching wrestling for over a decade.
Then I found njpwworld.com/ and got hooked again. Can't wait for them to come back.
Nor do I.. These guys got me back into wrestling based on the Nostalgia..

What a shit fact.
I love how Luger is chanting his own name after winning the WCW championship.
I don't think he was chanting his name, he was doing more of a 'CHONG LI CHONG LI CHONG LI' ala bloodsport
We don’t deserve Lex Luger.
I would too, beating the most famous wrestler of all time and finally won a world title. I remember it well
He was Luger's biggest fan.
@@jailcatjones3250 I mean Lex was WCW champ once before so this wasn't the first time.
The lads talk about Donnie Wahlberg and they mention Mark Wahlberg being in The Happening. But a lot of people don't realize that Donnie was also in an M. Night Shyamalan movie. Donnie was the skinny knacker in his underwear who shoots Bruce Willis at the beginning of The Sixth Sense.
Its actually mental how tame HBK vs RR looked in comparison after only a few short years once Edge & Christian, Hardys and Dudleys came around. But when I was 13 this was the greatest thing ever ha.
Tame? It's still the best ever ladder match. It actually told a good story. The TLC matches were fun for the sheer spectacle of it. But they were always just a series of big spots put together in a row. It's impossible to have good storytelling in a gimmick match with 6 people in it (plus 3 people who aren't in the match but help the teams during it anyway, so really it's 9 people in the match, not 6, Rhyno for Edge and Christian, Spike for the Dudleys, and Lita for the Hardys)
But yeah the beauty of HBK vs RR is how much they got out of a single ladder. It was a fantastic match with the bonus of using the ladder to enhance it further. For the TLC matches they were sort of all about the props, take the props away and little is left.
It's like how HBK vs Taker hell in a cell was better than Mankind vs Taker hell in a cell. The latter had literally about 3 moves in it. Maybe 4. And then they just waited for 10 minutes between each move doing nothing. Taker was very injured which is why they did it that way, he literally couldn't work, he had a broken foot. But even so. HBK vs Taker was a great match though.
Funny how all the best examples of each type of gimmick match seem to involve HBK lol.
@@duffman18 I'm someone who would pick the HBK/Razor match, but you can't compare eras.
I have been saying the same thing about the first two Hell in a Cell matches for years, even though Foley is my favorite wrestler. In terms of match quality, HBK/Undertaker is the best HIAC match ever. Shawn did the perfect blade job. And his fall through the table was up there with the best bumps of his career, along with his table spot with Mankind at Mindgames. But Mankind/Undertaker raised the bar so high that it's hard to compete in terms of bumps and highlights without serious injury or death.
That's what ended up happening with the Ladder match. The Hardys/Edge and Christian ladder match at No Mercy 1999 is a far more entertaining and exciting match, but like you said, it didn't have the same level of storytelling as the first two televised ladder matches. But Shawn Michaels and Scott Hall would never take the same immortal highlight reel bumps that the Hardys, the Dudleys and Edge & Christian did 4 times in a year, so those 6 men deserve the respect they garnered by putting not only their wrestling careers on the line, but their future lives on the line.
But ultimately, we are both picking apart 5 star matches. And in that case, we as wrestling fans win either way.
I watch those guys' matches and wonder HOW they are all alive and walking under their own power.
I am convinced that Jeff Hardy has some sort of Ghost Rider deal going on.
It's Christmas again already? It never ends..
I was there. I remember being 1 of 5 people who were cheering for Owen to win, I was so happy he won. This is a great bday present, cheers fellas!!
Happy birthday mate! 🥳🎂

Learned on this podcast that Little Richard was known as the "Wild Man" of rock n' roll, which for me at least now explains Mark Mero's moniker upon arriving to the WWF
Mero's Johnny B. Badd theme even acknowledged his resemblance to Little Dick.
"Why would you want to wrestle Yokozuna first, when he's fresh"
I can think of 3 reasons.
1. to be charitable to Lex's character, he's a babyface who wants to prove himself to the fans, prove that he can beat Yokozuna. If Bret beats Yokozuna and Lex then beats Bret, he won't have fully proven himself, he wants to prove himself by beating "all comers" and not leaving any doubt in the fans' minds that he only won because he went second and would never beat Yokozuna in a real match, only beating Bret when Bret was tired. Part of many babyface characters has been that they always are willing to take the harder route to prove themselves to the fans, just look at Hogan and Warrior accepting a 2 vs 3 handicap match, which in kayfabe should be a big challenge.
2. to be less charitable, Lex in kayfabe knows he can be Yokozuna because of the bodyslam challenge and the DQ win at summer slam, but believes he could not beat Bret. If Lex beats Yokozuna and then loses to Bret, he was still WWF champion, even if only for an hour, and joins the ranks of the immortals. But if Bret beats Yokozuna, and Lex can't beat Bret, then Lex will never be WWF champion because he knows he's just not good enough to beat Bret.
i love this kayfabe. Can of coke to you my man!
I don't know what your 3rd reason was, but here is mine: By winning the coin toss, he also ducked having to wrestling Crush. While Crush is seemingly the less dangerous of the three, it should be noted that Luger's advantage over Yokozuna and Bret is his superior strength, an advantage he may not have over Crush.
So you're saying that there's an alternate universe where Bret won the coin toss and we got Luger vs Crush in a 6-star Mania opener?
MrTom28 math says there's an alternate reality where it's Bret-brah vs Lex-brah as curtain jerker and Crush main events
Yokozuna would also smell sightly better in the first match than in the second.
“If you look at it compared to the TLC matches, of course it doesn’t hold up” - the TLC matches are fantastic but they are a series of fun spots. Shawn vs Razor had excellent psychology throughout and took an entirely different approach, so I think it holds up very well because it’s not comparable to those matches full of 6-8 people and they’re trying to make it look like they’re actually fighting each other and not attempting the “coolest move of the match”
exactly. spot fests are super fun in moderation but man are they overdone these days.
@@DragoEpyon you’re right

It is. I'm 37, and I suspect all who enjoys this are +/- 5 years of that.
Nah, no way. This match needed Razor's character. He did a great job. Shawn was amazing. How many other ladder matches are this iconic? Classics yeah, but this is one of the greatest matches of all time. And, it wouldn't have been with two of any other wrestlers. Not nearly to this extent. Still love you guys though. ;p
Razor's chokeslams were always gold.
I think Earl was actually steadying the ladder - anyone who's worked on ladders knows that someone putting weight on the bottom is really helpful.
U didnt need a college degree to discover that??
He was.... Then he started to celebrate randomly...
Macho Man chewed out Shawn and Razor backstage after the ladder match for going long and screwing ten guys out of a 'Mania match. They kept ignoring their go-home cues during the ladder match so they could tear the house down. Bob Holly said in his book that he didn't really mind, since the ladder match ended up being so good.
I'll be honest, I feel for those 10 guys but...if I had to choose between this ladder match being what it was vs. a random tag team match being on the card I will take the ladder match taking the extra time.
@@denniswilliams6519 i wanted 10 man tag. Guess thats like thy boring 8 man tag at wm 8. Should have dropped that for bulldog v berzerker

Didn't he chew out Stephanie as well?
Luna Vachon was such an underrated talent. WWF never used her to her full potential. The fact that she was never Women’s Champion is a joke.
RIP Luna.
Something to add to that is that, when it comes to the "ugllification" point the guys often make, the shaved hair is 10% of it at most. The rest of it's her (oh, God, why did I pick _this_ episode to bring this up) facial acting, which, (when you're not selling) is one of _the_ most under-discussed skills a wrestler can have.
Great example, Sami Zayn's Helluva Kick is, on paper, kind of a rubbish finisher for someone who you'll know if you were an NXT fan is a _serious_ elite technician (although I do like the combo with the Exploder to the corner - shows great kayfabe ring awareness) but it can be given _so_ much weight in subtly different ways by Sami's acting when you get the closeup on Sami getting ready. It can be wild emotion, "holy shit! I think I'm going to pull this off," or, laser-focused determination depending on the match situation. Huge part of why he was so over in NXT; obviously secondary to storyline in terms of why he's so over now.
If you thought Vince was bad with the "Unbelievable" at this PPV, wait until you get to the Survivor Series '95 event where he went OVERBOARD just saying "It's the Survivor Series" repeatedly in every match. If you were to take a shot every time he says that you'd be dead from Alcohol Poisoning.
Imagine if Owen hadn’t died and if Goldberg hadn’t concussed Bret. Those 2 were so good together, I could watch them wrestle forever
Owen didn't want to be a lifer like Bret did, but we all know how Vince has the uncanny ability to talk wrestlers into coming out of retirement even if they don't really want to. But man, can you imagine the matches Owen could've had with some of the WCW guys who came in like Benoit, Saturn, Eddie, and Malenko? He could've put on some clinics with those fellas! Such a shame.
Owen did actually wrestle in WCW a few times in 91 and they offered him a deal apparently but he opted to go to WWE because Bret was already there. Such a shame he didn't sign for WCW instead, he'd probably still be alive if he had.
It's like Christmas Day all over again, I might as well crack into the cans in honour of this.
Great commentary lads. Regarding the spit wad on Owen's face, not telling him had to be payback for all the ribs he played.
That's a good point lol
Owen was a real jerk n bully! Ditto 2 mrs perfect
ooo! very good!
Looking back Yokozuna was booked as a joke as Champion. More pushed as a buffoon than a monster.
Honestly yeah...he looked good in the 93 Rumble and that's it. He had to have Fugi throw salt in Brets eyes to beat him, jobbed to Hogan in less than 30 seconds, had to cheat to beat Hogan, lost to Luger, lost at SS, and had to have half the roster help to beat Taker, then loses to an injured Bret via falling like a obese turtle at this show. His run was really bad which is sad as he's the first real long term heel champion they had in over a decade and could have been a monster if he had stayed healthy and been booked to smash Hogan at KotR
I love how Luna wasn’t his manager but his main squeeze
Back in those days, everyone wanted to give her main a squeeze.

To this day I don't know why Vince turned on Mach the way he did. It feels like he suddenly decided, without reason, that Macho couldn't draw (despite obvious evidence otherwise) and gave up on him immediately.
@@quinnandvalor9657 I don't know if you heard the rumors about Stephanie McMahon, but there is a serious reason why Macho Man is not in the WWE Hall of Fame. He actually "retired" him over a year before this show, which is why he was on commentary at WM IX.
But Macho did go on to a very successful career in WCW, and he took all of that Slim Jim money with him.

One thing to add to Jay's point about women, generally, not being able to train as hard is that it _needn't_ be an issue - the Japanese women's divisions of this era and the leap in quality in the WWE vs. the old days show that. Your trainer just need to be innovative in how to get the best out of you. More than anything, I suspect that's what was just completely absent from from the WWF/E in the old days.
Also, the idea that a joke about TV Westerns was the best Lawler had in the women's match, despite being a solid joke in a bubble, is one of the best examples I've ever seen of why I just don't understand why so many people rate Lawler so highly as a heel commentator. I mean, OK, Alundra Blayze had _mildly_ equine features, so it's a step up from normal, but "TV Westerns?" Really? It's not like there weren't _any_ in the 90s (although I looked and genuinely couldn't find a single one that was running at the time) but they were so far out of the cultural consciousness by this point that that joke _had_ to have been written at least a decade beforehand, probably two or three.
More generally, even when his jokes are funny, they're always _painfully_ generic. "Oh, this person's old, I have jokes about people being old! Oh, I know, 'his first job was parking covered wagons!'" You _never_ hear jokes out of him that show actual, on-the-fly wit by being specific to the situation. Like, normally I'd consider it unfair to compare someone to Heenan but, even someone much less awesome than Heenan should be able to riff on what's _actually_ happening rather than just having a repertoire of jokes to draw from that are _vaguely_ relevant to what's happening (which is made even worse when you consider he'd have known the booking ahead of time so could just grab some the night before).
EDIT: Though not being able to bump as hard will always be a drag factor for a lot of fans. Same issue as the cruiserweight guys but to an even greater extent.
Got home from a graveyard shift and am ready to sleep. Click on UA-cam to listen to something to fall asleep to and I see this on my feed. Guess I'm up for another 2 hours. Love you guys.
Wrestlemania X/10 was in 1994, not 1993.
I’m in NYC, personally love MSG shows because the building is more comfortable and there’s a connection to the subway where you can enter the arena without going outside, and better food/drink options. Barclay’s Center is slightly less comfortable for me and is a farther trip, and security is way more TSA like, but makes for a more appealing show on television.
Seeing how good the Hart feud was, it makes me wonder why the Hardy feud sucked so bad.
Because the Hart's story was the little brother being jealous of his big brother & wanting to prove he was the better wrestler. The Hardy's was the older brother being jealous of the younger brother & committing arson & murder. Sometimes simpler is better.
@@TTOF_JB I know. But I'm wondering why it went that far.

1:39 I've watched this so many times and just realized that they have the date wrong, it should be 1994, not 1993
"What happens?"
"[Lex] passes the torch."
*Pause*
"HE NEVER HAD THE TORCH!"
You guys are brilliant.
Macho Man's match set the standard for Last Man Standing matches. Two years before Undertaker and Executioner, and five years before Rock vs Mankind ! ! !
Kai was clapping Blaze’s head with her legs to escape the roll up, that’s why Blaze was selling her face.
!! RIP Worzel
I recall WWF not only using the traditional WrestleMania theme music to promote, but I also remember them using another theme for Mania 10, and it had a strong classical style to it. As well as the song 'WrestleMania". In total, 3 different mania themes.
Always come back to this review, it's one of my favourites. What documentary was the clips in the intro from?
Every time I read the word "hello" I hear it in Jay Hunters voice and mark out.
Heeellooow. See, you do too.
I read yours the way Jerry Seinfeld makes fun of his girlfriends stomach noise
@@christophersuswal9544 lol one of the best Seinfeld skits ever
I know it wasn't intentional but it's still pretty cool that this came out on my Birthday. Lol
No, it was intentional. They know it's ur birthday and you are just that special
@@davidquinn7822 Wow! Really? Lol
@@Its__Dark__ really really
Happy birthday my dude! 🥳🎂
@@OSW Thank you!
I love this episode of OSW Review. Their whole break down of the Shawn/Razor ladder match, and then their break down of Bret/Owen and Bret/Yoko, I think it may be my favorite review they've done. It's so good.
I love waking up n seeing an OVW review fron Da Brahs. A winner is you!!!!!!!!
Loved this episode.
Wish Lex had won the belt, even just to drop it to Bret later in the night considering the fact that Perfect left and he didn't even get to face him.
#PoorLex
Also, where was Bruce Hart,he could have been in the crowd supporting Owen.
But it wasn't clear at that time that no feud would come of it. Perfect even cut another promo on the Heartbreak Hotel, threatening Luger. A feud was planned. I remember rumours at the time that Perfect couldn't legally wrestle but that he might become a manager again, targeting Luger, at bit like the role that then fell to Ted DiBiase.
Why would Bruce support Owen? Also, this would have taken the steam out of what happened at King of the Ring. Bruce was not an active wrestler anymore. Would you prefer him to Anvil?
Why Bruce would support Owen? Because he has history with Bret and Bret doesn't learn from it.
@@koitsushima7123 Your reference to "history" sounds obscure to me. The main point still stands: you can't do anything with Bruce but quite a lot with Anvil.
I'll just leave it there for people who get the reference. Would be a sad day if I needed to explain that joke, specifically here.
@@koitsushima7123 Whatever....
R.I.P Scott Hall.
I love your old school wrestling content so much!!! Thank you!
Thank you mate! Very kind of you
1:10:22 - SO THAT'S why the Punjabi Prison match didn't get over. Shawn Michaels wasn't in the match! :P
You guys are killing it with this arc, can't wait for more!
Shawn could carry a broom to a five star match
