What are the difference between Industrial design and Automotive design? What kind of people should choose Industrial design and what kind of people for Automotive design? Which is narrower of both? Which one of them has wide range of career i.e., Different industry career. Reply with an example will help me.

is it really difficult to get a job in automotive design after you finish university. i need help, because i want to do automotive design at uni

    • @FormTrends

Yes, automotive design is a very competitive field. You need to demonstrate not only sketching skills but also an ability to be creative and offer solutions. The first thing you need to do is develop a well-rounded portfolio of work. This will get you into a good design school. From there you can further develop your technique and work on projects that you'll present to potential employers. Good luck!

May I ask how these beautiful detailed models are made? Specifically the materials and fabrication methods?

+Sul917 Thanks for your helpful answer!

    • @FormTrends
      @FormTrends  7 років тому

Yes, Sul917 is correct. Typically they're made of clay and then painted. Others are 5-axis milled from 20lb. modeling foam. Most all contain some 3D printed parts

I've finished a BSc in Transportation Design few years agoo in italy, the school didn't have many connections with industry, and until now it has been difficult to find an opportunity to work in this field. I just turned 26 and, living in the UK, i am seriously thinking to get a master in Automotive Design at Coventry.
Do yu have any tips for getting in it? do you think is it too late for me (being 26 and having experience just in other fields of design)?
The models in this video are really beutifull, thanks for sharing it. :)

I'm an engineering student, What do work you would be expected in my portfolio? As an engineer, I may not know Free sketching software like Illustrator, Photo-shop, etc. Since Engineering design and designing are completely different. How do I mold myself and produce a portfolio?

      Hi Prabharkaran,
Yes, you're absolutely right. Engineering and design are two very different disciplines. But being an engineer does have a lot of advantages, not least of which understanding how things work. Some very successful designers studied engineering before going to design school. So you've got that going for you.
As for developing your portfolio, here are some tips:
First of all, don't worry about Photoshop or 3D tools. You'll learn all of that at a good design school. what you really need are original sketches. These can be done in with any media - pencil, pen, marker.
These sketches should be as diverse as possible. Even though you may love cars, you should also include some sketches of products, people, landscapes. This is important to not only show the technique you already have but how you convey an idea visually.
I would suggest compiling these sketches in an A3 or A4 file booklet. At the end of the day, they need to give an accurate description of your present ability and show that you've got passion for the subject matter. They needn't be the quality you see of professional designers, but they should be clear enough to show your potential to the person who will be reviewing your application. When you're accepted, you can build on those skills.
      Best of luck!

In this type of design field anyone don't care about your engineering. Your creativity , sketching skills matters
