  • The complete Clay Design process using Autodesk Alias and PowerInspect on Stiefelmayer hardware.
    This novel solution combining CMM and software for machining uses the CMM as a multi-purpose tool for inspection, marking out and milling. The designer can machine a complete car body, or just sections of the design.
    PowerInspect is a world-leading inspection software offering flexibility, ease-of-use and professional results.

    You can do that. ! All ya need is a CNC machine.. EBAY has all the parts you need to build a good, inexpensive CNC router, any size you want, (even car size).. Design your Dream Car in Google Sketch-up, it is free .. Download it today !
    So, If your smart about it, and smart shopper, You can build your own fiberglass Car body for a little over a $1000.. All starting from scratch, with nothing but, enough Smarts and several TONS of energy and Ambition.. We live in a pretty cool World.. You are your own limits, and strength.. So, *GO FOR IT* Muscle up the balls to be the envy of your friends with the only "One of a kind" exotic car on the block..

    I clay sculpt too. But I do it all by hand and full size. Then I build the car, make it road legal and drive it on the roads. Check out my videos for some really cool concepts I have designed and built. Also some really good tutorials to help those that want to do this sort of work and build and drive there own concept car :)

      S1KRYD You drive clay cars?

    • @S1KRYD
      @S1KRYD 9 років тому +5

      jpmasento I build cars for on road use. The clay is only used as a mould to get the desired shape. The car itself is actually made from carbon fibre or fiberglass. Depends on the budget of the client.

    do they use a similar set up at art center or CCS?

    • @f1guremeout
      @f1guremeout 7 років тому

      As 2009, I know CCS does have a 5 axis machine. I graduated 2010, as the board moved into the larger Argonaut (now called Taubman Center of Education, formerly GM Design headquarters), the materials and processes for Automotive Design Studio was located at the top 3 levels. Their multi-axial mill was enormous and required an operator to enter the data to run the mill. Never was a fan of digital modeling, but it was necessary to understand draft angles of surfacing door panels, hoods, rooflines, etc. The auto program is fit for the privileged few with the money (and the connections too) and is as easy to graduate as becoming a top ace fighter pilot.

    My question is why don't you just 3d print it out of hard materials and paint it up? I thought the idea of clay was to work on the shape some more

    • @GaryGames18

      Michael Nguyen When you work with clay it's very easy to remold or reshape a certain aspect of the model instead of reprinting a whole entire car.

      Renzo castillo ortiz This is only the final step. There were a lot of sketches and concepts before this. Someone then had to spend tens of hours translating the model from paper into a CAD program. This step is just making a physical model of what the final product would look like without actually fabricating a body.
