  • Опубліковано 29 лют 2024
  • Cam A : BMCC 6K FF
    Cam B : Red V-Raptor 8K
    Lenses used : Tokina Vista Prime 50mm & Leica Summicron 35mm 2.0 (same lens used in each shot)

    All clips filmed in RAW
    Red has in my opinion better IQ and it is what I expected but I think BMCC6K is a great value for the money you pay - you get a great camera and a beautiful screen with a great IQ and dynamic range.

    Objectively... both look stunning. I was unable to make a difinitive guess. Take into acct BM Raw vs Red color science and the subtle differences could be attributed to color management and grading. Shooting LUTS or ? Nice job. I've owned the BMPCC 6K since its beginning & I just purchased the BMCC 6K for some indie work. My 40+ career has been shooting for studios in L.A. with top equip. I'm amazed at the quality and affordability of great gear over the last few years.

  • @jonathanhilliard971
    @jonathanhilliard971 5 місяців тому +4

    I actually guessed correctly. Only because; I look at motion cadence when comparing cameras. It hard to see, but RED has a frame pacing that looks like film. Other Senors, when objects move in frame, the have a digital stuttering. It tough to see if you don't look for it.
    Also HIgh-light roll-off and contrast profiles on the RED are more pleasing.
    So if i was going to buy one it would be the BMCC 6k.

    At the beginning, I was in love with Cam A, but since the exterior shots, I preferred Cam B (both look just damn great). However, that slight tint in skin tone and blacks to green of BM just didn't catch me! I mean, it's still a great image, and maybe something you could fix with color correction, but all the exterior shots in red were just so pleasant to the eye and so natural in terms of their shift towards the warm gamma in blacks and skin tones.

    Red sharper… colors and highlights/shadows were different…. But the difference wasn’t easy to tell.. I bet low light, hard lighting on a bright sunny day, and moire would be easy to tell the clear difference between cameras.

  • @nidza3577
    @nidza3577 28 днів тому

    Immediately, you can see that the FF is wider. More importantly, the blacks on the BMCC are muddy, and the richer colors are on the Red. It is almost impossible to pull the same black levels with enough dynamic range to even compete with the Red. Also, these differences would be more noticeable in more challenging scenarios or in post-production. Anyway, for the money, the BMCC 6K is solid!

    over all I'd say the Red colour has more under tones, but that's likely due to the higher bit depth. BMCC has a far more filmic look with reduced contrast but a harsher shadow fall off, likely due to the less dynamic range. For the price and size the BMCC is amazing especially since you can make it a global shutter camera in post. Red just captures more and requires more care to the make-up or de-gloss, as for the BMCC it kind of smooths out the skin tones and reduces its complexity and tonality. Despite their out of camera look of course with the amount of information you get you'd be able to adjust the necessary parameters to make the image as appealing as you'd like.

    • @cogmission1

      Red looked better imo

    • @slipoch6635
      @slipoch6635 4 місяці тому +1

      Look through the curtains at the stonework, then zoom in. You can literally see detail on the stonework in the BM footage that is not visible on the Red footage. And that is after YT compression.
      But in other respects they are very close together. I like the look of red footage the skin tones seem a little more on point in most shots except a couple.
      The point I was making is the RED is an 8k sensor, vs a 6k sensor the edge fidelity and detail clarity should be a LOT higher as you have approximately double the number of pixels for image capture. Yet there are details on the stonework that are considerably less defined in the RED images. The edges looked slightly mushier on the red (might be backplane sensor distance, some in-built smoothing to remove the digital look or an OLPF doing this too, not just sensor output).

  • @RubenStuveling

  • @JonasStuart

    I really feel like the last frame says the most with color reproduction (the sky, the building, the window reflections). Having owned both, I always had issues trying to match them in post because the Blackmagic always felt like it shifted some vivid deeper colors towards being desaturated or couldn't reproduce them at all. If I remember correctly it was vivid reds and deep blues. I know Gen 5 color science was meant to fix a good bit of it, but curious to see a different comparison where the overall tone of the image is not as muted.
    I was surprised by a lot of the comparisons, but noticed the RED is a bit sharper overall in resolving the image, with a touch less green. (Although all sensors vary in tint a slight degree one way or another.)
