I saw a fishing boat trying to come in one rough night about 8:00PM in the winter. The water comes into the opening at a 45 degree angle...it wants to you into the rocks. When that boat came in the waves put it on the rock shelf on the south side of the opening...let it there and the next wave floated it and they back out and called the coast guard, who had to go out in choppy stuff and babysit them for several hours before coming into the harbor. It's the only lighted harbor entrance on the west coast.
The Coast Guard run a station out of Depoe Bay and if you ever get the chance to see one of their patrol boats negotiate the harbor from the seaward side it's quite a sight to see and a great look at some good seamanship.
Was there a few years ago when the humpback were in the bay feeding 30 yards offshore, and they were looking at us standing on the breakwater....an astonishing location

"One Flew Over the Coo Coo's Nest" has their fishing part filmed in this port.
Its a small port and sometimes not very bumpy going in and out.
Great job🎉

Wait offshore till a slack or incoming tide. Why take a chance?
Spot on!
Old lady was ovulating?
World's smallest harbor entrance!
Those captains are stupid, we watched a boat full of people go out, then the coast guard ran out and escorted the boat back in
Shiver me timbers...that's tight!
He did everything right. Patient, waited for the right opportunity, then went for it.
