Genes don't change in a short period of time. Historically, Koreans have always been the tallest people in East Asia. It's just that the period after the Korean War (1950-1970) was the darkest time in it's history, which is why older Koreans tend to be shorter due to malnutrition. To be precise, it's not that Koreans have gotten taller, but rather that Koreans have regained maximum potential height from their genes.

When I went to Korea I expected everyone to be super short, just because of Kpop idols and in general people seem smaller as they have a smaller build (I am 172cm which is pretty tall for women so in my country I am considered tall) However I went in October 2022 (5monthsago) and people seemed either my height or taller! The subway was full of tall people! Generally the older generation was shorter and cute, whilst the younger generation was fancy and tall (which was intimidating hahaha)

North Korea and south Koreans are totally the same genetically there's not even 2% difference but why South Koreans look better and are taller? That's because there is a trend in Korea of taking HGH Injections which can significantly increase your height they also are addicted to glutathione whitening injection & plastic surgery that's why even though north & South Koreans are 100% same still they look different

Koreans originally had a tall height, but during the Korean War, they couldn't eat because they didn't have food, so they got shorter, but after overcoming the war, they became a well-off country, and their nutrition improved, so they grew taller according to their original genes However, most people in North Korea are malnourished because there is no food

The social pressure to look good also plays a role. Korea isn't the plastic surgery capital of the world for no reason. A person I know once talked about how he saw that there was a lot of hankypanky under the table stuff going on there coz everyone is so hyperfocused on having kids that look perfect that they don't even think it's a big deal to have affairs behind each others backs or get surgery on kids before they aren't even done growing. Height is the one thing surgery cannot really do anything with, unless those bone-rebreaking surgeries are also popular where they deliberately break the leg bones & force them a few inches or so apart so the bone has no option but to grow longer. But I doubt that's a popular option coz that means months on a wheelchair. Monolid surgery seems to be getting less frequent these days tho, so that's good.

It's true that nutrition has a big impact in how tall you get to be. Being well taken care of during childhood and adolescence can really make a difference. My family was really poor during my teen years so we barely had food, or nutritious food and I'm only 152cm. On the other hand my sister( 6 years younger then me) she is 170cm just because she grew up in a better financial situation at home and she didn't struggle the way I did. So if your life is good chances are you're going to be tall.😅

There was a big lack of animal protein from the start of the occupation by Japan to basically the 1980s. When Korea became wealthier, more animal protein was introduced into the diet. If you see how Koreans ate in the past from the 1900s to the 1980s, the only difference in what they ate was the introduction of a lot more animal protein. It's not that they ate a lot of food, which in some instances they do as many just eat one meal a day, it's that they eat a lot more animal protein.

Fertility rates in developed countries are always lower than those in developing countries. Europe has solved the problem of declining birthrate through the use of the de facto marriage system and the support system for single mothers. However, since Korea is a country influenced by Confucian culture, Koreans can not accept the same view of marriage as Europeans. For them, marriage is accepted as something a little deeper. And from a social science point of view, the higher the population density, the lower the fertility rate. Korea is a very densely populated country. Many people are flocking to Seoul. As a result, house prices in Seoul are very expensive. This is the main reason.

Originally, Koreans were the tallest in Asia, but as they went through the brutal Japanese colonial period and the Korean War, the country was devastated and suffered from malnutrition for a while.
As nutrition improves, Koreans' height is rising again, If the two Koreas reunify, they will grow taller.
If minimal nutrition is achieved, it is ultimately determined by genes.
    For your information,
Korean men all have a simple physical examination around the age of 20 because of their military enlistment.
The average height of men in their 20s in Korea is about 174 centimeters, and there are a few people who grow taller after the age of 20, but the average height is less than 175 centimeters.

There is a record that Korea has historically grown taller than the neighboring countries but Korea was a very poor country 50 years ago, so people couldn't eat properly and grow up properly. Now that Korea has become a very prosperous country, young people have grown very tall. The overall average in Korea is about 172cm, and those in their 20s and 30s are 175cm

I definitely think their genes are important, but frankly I think in this case that nutrition is almost equally as important. If your body does not have the nutrients it needs to grow, it will be stunted. 80 years ago, South Korea was not what it is now and nutritious food in abundance was difficult to find. Now that they have access to food and clean water anytime they need it, their bodies have the nutrition they need and they've grown taller. I think a lot of the older generations would have been taller if they'd had the access to food like the current generation does. But I don't think that you can grow a random height just because of food. You need to have the genes for it. All of my brothers are above 6'0 my mom is 5'9 my dad is 5'10 but I'm 5'5. I had the same nutrition as my brothers, but I got my dad's genetics when it comes to height (his siblings and parents were/are all shorter than him.) My children could still be tall because I have the gene. But if I'd grown up with a lack of food and water, I really believe that would have impacted my height because I wouldn't have had the nutrition my body needed to grow.

I currently work in South Korea and there's hardly any difference between them and American men's height. Most American men I met were 183-186 cm (6'0"/6'1".) Most Korean men I've met were my height, while most young adult Korean and American women were 167-170 (5'6"/5'7").
So just like in the US, I'm short here, too! 😭

Until 100 years ago, North Korea was about 5cm taller on average than South Korea. At that time, Korea was not divided. The North Korean region has more northern nomadic blood than south, which is thought to be the influence, and it is said that the tallest ethnic group among East Asians is the Manchurian. If Korea had not been divided, the average height of Korea would have been much taller.

u can eat a shit ton of junk food and still sleep and exercise and go outdoors a lot and u will still be short, or at the very least average height.
"a lot" consists of non-processed whole foods like fresh vegetables and fruits, eggs, whole grains, fatty oils, nuts, seafood, liver, dairy products, maybe some extra supplements like vitamins, and drinking a lot of clean water.
occasional junk won't stunt ur growth but it should not occupy a _major_ portion of what u eat daily, like more than 25-30%

To be precise, the towns and villages in the lower provinces are not very large.
There are a lot of people around 173 there.
The closer you get to the metropolitan area, the bigger the crowd seems to be.
It is difficult to say what the average height of people in the metropolitan area is.
But in my neighborhood, the average seems to be around 180.
I am 190, my brother is 187, my father is 184, my uncle is 178
    my old friend is 193
    It is like this.
There are quite a few foreigners living in my neighborhood, but I have never felt that other whites or blacks are big except for Canadians or Northern Europeans. However, white people have a strong upper body, and black people have a very strong slender (feels like a hound?) unless they are overweight.
A foreigner told me that before he came to Korea, he was an Asian, so he thought he would be small, and he would be cute inside, so he expected it, but when he came to Korea, he said that he had no such thoughts at all. ha ha ha

It's the same for height growth in China as well. I'm a boy from Chengdu, a southwestern city in China and I'm 1.76 m tall in net height. Although the average height in Chengdu is at disadvantage, compared to many other parts of China, most of my boy peers are ranging from 1.70 m to 1.80 m tall in net height. When I was in high school(I'm in college right now), the average height for local boys in my class is between 1.72 m to 1.73 m in net height, which is significantly taller than that for my father's generations. In my father's generation, many male colleagues from my father's company are even around or below 1.65 m and few of them are above 1.70 m due to lack of nutrition. The average height here in my hometown still keeps rising up by generation. When I went to Qingdao in 2019, a northern city in China, I found that the young boys there are even much taller than those in my hometown I could find numerous young boys that's taller than me.

There is a clear correlation between nutrition and height. North Koreans are on average around 5'6 while South Koreans reach an average height which is a little above 5'9.
Europe is 5'10, with some countries reaching an average of almost 6'0 while others 5'8. Similar but slightly lower in the Middle East with an average of 5'9. South and Southeast Asia has the lowest average height which is a half inch above 5'5 . Northeast Asia + China are slightly above 5'7.
Interestingly Africa (if you exclude the Arab countries in the North) also has an average height of 5'7. They just have some pockets of very tall outliers like the South Sudanese. Going by the data there is a visible correlation between access to nutrition and height, exceptions just prove the rule.

I have seen a video about this. According to the video, there are 3 reasons for Koreans to be tall.
First, since South Korea experienced rapid economic prosperity after the Korean War and as a result, they started consuming more meat into their diets. Increase in daily protein made them grow taller.
Second, men are expected to be tall in their society and if a guy isn’t tall, they are considered less attractive. So,many Koreans in their teenage years take artificial Human Growth Hormone (HGH) injections which makes them grow tall and well built.
Third, as stated earlier, Korean society looks down on short men. So, some Koreans go as far as to undergo Height Increasing surgeries where they break the existing leg bones and add a metal rod so as to increase the height of their legs. This is a very dangerous procedure where if something goes wrong, the changes are irreversible. But, some men do opt for these procedures too
