I like the way you were honest with a customer: If I do it, it'll cost an arm and a leg. If you bring a couple bits over, I'll charge you a whole lot less, teach you how to do it yourself and I can sell you the materials you'll need. Excellent customer service and definitely a method in customer retention, not only because of the honesty but also the personalised service and ease of material accessibility. Nicely done mate!
Yea, class act as always Luke.
So static grass will hold up well under the weight of buildings and heavy minis? Im interested in peoples experiences with it.
Building that community
Love it. Classic Geek Gaming. I like the new version of the board more than the old version ;-)
You made nice work of that board Luke. Awesome stuff man. And LMAO on the title and pinned comment 😂😂😂
I'd be really interested in seeing your introduction to napoleonics; especially something like looking at a real battlefield and translating it accurately to the gaming table could be a really cool video project.
Love love love 😁
Just a detail, the other day I was watching a documentary on ancient roads where they stated that the most common mistake in reproducing old roads is having the center with grass and less beaten, when in reality and due to animal traction in the middle, that would be the place more beaten and for sure without any grass....
Also another thing that was mentioned was the old roads would have a barrier to prevent cattle on the road to roam around to the fields. Hope it helps
@@GeekGamingScenics Maybe in the next board :-) Its will always be a good conversation point for us geeks.
That cliff-face is cracking.
@@GeekGamingScenics I mean it; that's dead good.
Hey Luke! I spent the afternoon building a 3ft x Almost 3ft (because I can’t do maths) table that will be the base for a necromunda build, so it was great timing to come back in fairly knackered for a cup of tea while waiting for wood glue to dry to find this video waiting for me to watch! Great content as always!
That is a stunning result, I love how you've managed to get static grass playable , I've always preferred the realistic look of static grass so it's nice to see it used heavily outside of dioramas :)
For pre-motor roads, it's worth remembering that they don't tend to have the central avenue of grass and weeds remaining, as the hooves of the draught animals wears it away, whereas the tyres of 20th century vehicles stay on either side of the centre line.
I really like the blue/grey colour to tie in the rocks mate, will have to try this
Watched a video on youtube once, think it was Lindybeige, where he pointed out that the grass strips down the centre of the road aren't very historically accurate as the horses pulling the carts and wagons that left the wheel grooves would have churned it up. The grass strip down the centre of a road is actually a feature of the automobile... This is of course just pedantic. The board looks great.
Was thinking the exact same thing. Its the one where he pointed out the inaccuracies in the movie Gladiator
@@GeekGamingScenics A thin strip down the middle? These must be Brazilian roads.
Of course it was lindybeige - the internet's Number 1 Fun Ruiner! 😉
What if the carts were pulled by two horses tho?
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Or one very wide horse?
awesome work! As a yorkshireman trapped in London, your voice is music t'me lugs, lad!
Very cool, man, I great way to show people even the tired old projects can be brought up to date!
Sometimes its just nice to watch you work. Well done.
Nice job on the board my dude. End result looks excellent! Watching all these board builds and terrain videos is getting me itching to do my own!
YES! Got another awesome LukesAPS video to watch. It's always a highlight of any day to get one of your build videos.
Thank you for giving this board the respect it deserves.
So cool that you could help rescue these old boards. The idea of all the brilliant battles that were probably fought on these tables over the years gives me goosebumps!
How strange. I was thinking earlier today that I should update my gaming board and look at your vids to see how to do it. Look what pops up in my inbox but an excellent vid in how to do it. Great stuff ❤️❤️❤️
Really awesome board restoration, my man! This looks incredible!!!
~ Wolfbrother Methos
Very interesting video. I really want to see the finished table now. 😆
I love the methods you use, and the call-out to Neil was very cool. This video gave me a lot of ideas for stuff I make, which I appreciate.

I do tend to skip some of your talking because gauged ears gross me out viscerally. So I apologize if that impacts your viewing algorithm.
I just put an order a couple of days ago from your US site to redo my 8'x6' table. Just a nice refresh after heavy use over the last 6 years. Love your stuff man, great video
The honesty and showing him how to do his own really does display the character of the person you are. But otherwise great table not really into napoleonics myself HOWEVER id love to see the intro if its done
man those vehicle tracks in that napoleonic era board really just tie the whole thing together
horse drawn wagon tracks
Great video mate! Honesty is always the best policy in customer relations and by showing Duncan how to do it himself you have solidified a loyal customer too. Plus, that board looks proper dapper now
Lovely work as usual! Always useful for building knowledge!
I've been watching your videos and trying some of the stuff out for nearly two years now, it's really interesting to see all these projects take shape. I built a hill board after your video last year really inspired me. Although I'm working on a model railway at the moment, I am nominally a Napoleonic wargamer, so I'd love to see your introduction to it.
Cracking work as always. Definitely would enjoy a vid of how the entire table turns out and being gamed on.
I've been watching for over a year now and this finally pushed me over the edge to build my own table since I am getting back into BattleTech it just feels like the perfect time.
@OriginalYithian I never tried Renegade Legion. I really enjoy the Awesome and Locust is great too. I do like tanks, almost obsessively. I will have to check it out.
Beautiful restoration!
Those rocks are gorgeous. One day i will grow up and make some plaster rocks.
Tin foil moulds are really effective to start playing around with the painting technique, I was very happy with mine. Definitely will get some proper rock moulds at some point
Great vid Luke, very helpful and instructive
Great video and fantastic end result 😃👍🏼 never worry about promoting your own products as they are top quality 😃👍🏼 and it’s your channel. Keep them coming.
That was a great watch. Really informative for people like myself who have 0 knowledge on terrain building / restoration. Great job 👏🏼
This was a great video to show the renovation work that can be done on a board. And definitely film your introduction to Napoleonic gaming!
Inspired job as always!!
Thank you VERY much. Ages ago I snagged some half a dozen 4x4 small scale boards for use with 28-32 mm figures and was about to get rid of them because the flocking is tiered and the roads are wrong but after seeing this I changed my mind.
Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed the watch. I’d like to see the full table too.
Excellent stuff. I definitely would like to see the whole thing when it is all done.
Great chat and some really helpful tips, all the best Garry
Such a great thing to bring back to life such an old board. Excellent!
It honestly looks amazing and the realism is mind blowing!
Very nice! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing your intro to Napoleonics!
Some amazing tips in this video. Thanks!
Good work luke. Nice restoration
You haven't destroyed 40 years of history. You've revitalised the table and documented the journey so it can continue having history created on it.
Love it when you do board builds I always learn something new .
beautiful! good work brother
Brilliant result as per usual! You are the terrain masters.
That road looks amazing, the board is exceptional in general
Looks amazing man.
Absolutely awesome mate 👌
Amazing. I will try the "bunching up" technique for making "non-tuft-tufts".
Also, will there ever be a German distributor? Postage and post-brexit worries are the only reasons for my question. Otherwise I love to order at the creator directly (which I have already done, only asking for potential future orders...)
I love learning about the Napoleonic era battles and stuff id love to get into painting them!
Don't know that much about this type of gaming but I know awesome work when I see it.
Sweet.
The static grass technique was so interesting
That must be some really sturdy terrain to last that long. Hell of a nice base to work some magic on!
Looks great man :)
A beautifull 'before & after' that shows how much can be achieved [and add an exitement factor back into the playing surface] Well worth it!
Good to see the technique Luke! Keep up the good work Pal.
Wonderful work
Great video as usual mate👍🏻
It was nice you used this opportunity to turn an individual training event into a training video for the gaming community at large. Nice work.
I wonder if the other boards were ever done. Would be great to see them. The board looks great.
The rock face was cracking.
Impressive! Would like to see the follow up video you mentioned that you were hoping to make.
The original scene looks like the Falkland Islands to a tee!
You Rock (and mud and gras... One of those 'it must be late if I'm that lost in UA-cam's suggested vids' but great video anyway!
Youve done a rly good job on this
Wow, that yellow under the grey on the rockface works so incredibly well. Thanks.
amazing looking grass and visual interest there! Great tips.
Looks great Luke! Got a new subscriber today
Great work, but I have one tiny nit-pick that will make you hate me... In the napoleonic period, being before the time of motorised vehicles, the dirt roads wouldn't have grass tufts in middle because that's where the horse would walk...
Don't worry, I'll lock myself in the history buff cupboard now.
*Ackchyually* Two horses side by side pulling a carriage of goods and/or cannon/artillery, would.
@@majs3n440 those were far less common
@@danielbateman6518 Less common than what? :D
@@majs3n440 single beast of burden cart/carriage.
Records show that swedish (scania) farmers in the same period had on average 7 horses and foals, none had fewer than 2. While the number of wagons averaged at 4,5 in the same period, but only one or two were ever specified as transport wagons. More horses, more cargo or same amount of cargo at greater speed. I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying that roads like that could very well exist during that period.
very interested to see the rest of the terrain
You are surely living the life Luke!
@@GeekGamingScenics Stay strong Legend! Let me channel you some positive energy!!!!!
10:06 "Spray... with... matt... varnish..." 😉
Awesome as always mate.. cheers
Awesome video. What are the name of the colour paints you use on the rocks? I picked up Payne's grey, but what's the name of the creamy grey and the others?
@@GeekGamingScenics Thanks Luke that's awesome
Man that was so fun to watch
Great job Luke
Fantastic work. Pls more vids
Nice work....i love this..
Bloody brilliant, I'm into 15mm Napoleonics and scenery well started and stalled.... Love it time to get my arse into gear.......
Beautiful!
Very cool of you and a nice video also! ..I would like to see a video or even a series of videos of you starting in historical wargaming in the Napoleonic era! :)
Inspirational Luke!
Always upload these vids, no good keeping them to yourself we love em. I’m actually working on a small display base at the min using different red grasses, just for a change. Where can I pick up the Matt scenic spray? Deffo need some.
Awesome as always.
👍🏻
Lukes Aps - Geek Gaming Scenics
Just placed my order, picked up a few other bits whilst I was there.
Cheers 👍🏻
"Up your's trolls!" - This is so much better than the "Keep Calm" BS - Luke the Legend
Great Video - love how genuine you are
Board looks really good - much better than the old one. What did you end up using for the bushes and shrubs through? They look ace, very realistic
Nice video ! And what is the song in the beginning of the video ? Its stuck in my head
Great video I really enjoy your content need to pluck up the courage and build my own now 😂
Is grout refering to mortar for tiles or sand for unmortared outside tiles?
Love to see the Intro to Napoleonics!
Fantastic upgrade
I want to have an 'Up Yours, Trolls!!' tee shirt
I'll be honest, I was doubting it there for a little bit but man, that's such a wonderful improvement. Nice work!
Are the roads intended to be 2 roads or one with sorta wheel ruts?
Nice to see the end result .
