Hmm, cameo form the Vancouver carpenter. Must have cost a fortune to bring him here. Totally worth it ;)
😂 Yup. His time ain't cheap!!
@@justkeepskating8888how much did I cost
No way.. the only carpenter I watch on UA-cam also builds skate ramps. A legend
good job on ramp and being a father... that's the way to bond with ya son, right there :)
Best one i saw on building a miniramp, the other vids tell you to buy tools and explain it like you're building a castle 😆 i think my son and i will enjoy this.
I hope so! There will be more coming soon. Hopefully a full miniramp video by the spring.
Cheers bud keep them coming🤙
A Ben video on an average Thursday? What a great day
After twenty years of dreaming, I finally crushed a mini pipe in three days thanks to this. Wish I could post a pic. For those going the extra mile for a halfpipe, 2'x4'x16' built in three pieces works great (sitting on vertical 2x4s, so 21.5" height from the flat with a 4.5' radius). I tried 2'x4'x12' and the flat was way way too short, hence the third piece. I'm cheap and used a ~1.3" curtain rod, but better than the pvc I originally bought. I still need to build a hinging 17-24" top somehow (I have 3.5" right now so I can sort of fit it on a vehicle/trailer).
i don’t think anybody else’s voice gets me this excited
Thanks for making this. Don't even have the materials but looking forward to getting this done.
Trippy! I just watched ur Drywall stuff to install ceiling in my cabin an the next day needed to learn to build a Quarter pipe an found you here. Great job on BOTH of ur channels dude. It HELPS so much!
Thanks man, I built a slightly bigger ramp with my dad, really fun, thanks for the tutorial.
Woah finally something I can probably pivot fakie on
You sir have an awesome Channel ! Never stop greetings from Germany thumbs up
I live in south Florida. Every time we have a hurricane or tropical storm, people throw away the plywood they used to board up their windows. I mean, you can find sheets upon sheets out for the trash. I usually drive around collecting as much as I can fit in my SUV and build free ramps with it.
You're my lord and saviour Ben can probably convince my dad to build this with me too as a project
Nice! Excited to skate it.
thank you!
Dude! Ben! Great video! Super easy to follow.. back in the 90's we always made the most janky ramps. haha.. with stuff we "found".....
agree with ben, awesome tips for basic ramp building!!
ROFL...our launch ramps back in 1990 were death traps . Someone always ended up with a broken wrist our flat on their back gasping for oxygen 🤣
I'm use to seeing some awesome drywall tips. But now I'm getting schooled in mini ramps. Good balance of being an adult for sure!
I'm thinking about making one
Gonna start building a 3ft mini with my son in the back yard 💙
This has to be one of the most informative and helpful videos I've seen about building ramps. Very well done, keep up the good work! 💯🔥
Glad it was helpful!
I built this yesterday same size. I made the transition radius 4ft 6inches. I’m building a second with a 5ft radius. Thank you for the details! Much Appreciated!
This is an awesome ramp, thank you for sharing
Perfect dimension to try out new tricks
Really good information man. Perfect height and radius in my opinion. Great video and thank you for this!
Thanks for watching!
Looks like fun. That Festool vac looks like fun too though, lol.
dude this is the only ramp video i have been needing and you've delivered...thank you so much!!
i'm going a bit bigger but the idea is the same...i may even use 2x3's (which i didn't know they made until recently) instead of 2x4's to save a bit of cashola ...i think it'll be just as strong for this use
i recently skated a 6 1/2 foot ramp dont recommend if your not comfortable giving skating your all and dont have much board time build a 2 footer to get confee with 1 foot is more fun to mess around on 3 feet is perfect for both beginners and intermediate riders, sk8 is life 🤙🏼
🛹>🪦
best vid on this subject ive seen! thanks Ben. just gotta build 3 more and you’ll have a half pipe 👍
thanks for this super video ! I loved and i´ll try make for my children from Aloha ! !!!!
Great vid. Thanks ben
Ben is that your son helping assemble the ramp ? If so I must say you gotta be the coolest dad ever , I built a box once with my dad and it was great times I wish we built one of these!!!!
Awesome video! I've got the tools to make this... should be fun! Just need to convert all of the measurements you mentioned to the metric system.
Have fun!
What are dimension of the mini ramp?
Oh heck yeah! I need to build this.
I have a 7ft curb simulator that I made out of salvaged pallets and a piece of angle from a local metal shop. I had them bend flat plate for a softer corner vs actual angle iron. It's about 8" high and I can bolt on a riser to double the height. I mostly ride it in my basement, but have taken it out on the streets and shared. I landed my 1st backside crook on it.
Great job! Classic mini radius is 1.8*height … u can adjust to your preference… and for the copping , with a 2 inches 3/8 on top and on side is perfect
Amazingly informative video! One day I also want to build my own quarter pipe - this helps A LOT!!!
Need one of these in my workshop, don’t know what took me so long, been raining for 5 weeks here in the uk.
Love quarter inch coping!
i built my 2ft with a 5ft transition radius and it works amazing! keen and OC ramps make their 2ft with 6ft transition radius.
great stuff ben
Don't use a jigsaw to cut your transitions, i use some plumbers tape mounted to the foot on my worm drive (center of blade after setting depth) with a self tap'r. I also found if you use a Philips #2 short bit directly in my impact driver it makes a perfect countersink every time for gold cabinet screws. 😉
Your truck looks cranked at the end there haha. This looks like what I need I should build one
Good tutorial, thanks.
I would like to see a medium/low height ledge build on this channel haha
Coming soon!
@@justkeepskating8888 Oh 😳
you need some 3/4" horse Stall matts for that gym of yours!
Hey man! Which radius would you recommand for a 2 feet high ramp that its skateable like yours????🙏🏻
Curious if I just weather seal the wood. And tarp it during the rain season how long it will last. Moving into my new place in about a week and I’m going to build half immediately lol
How much does this cost approximately like all the supply’s not including tools
How much spacing would you recommend between screws?
Where did you get that hoody?
Rly hope someone responds but do I use the 3/8 for the ramp or the 3/4?
3/4 for the template and 2 layers of 3/8 for the surface, plus a top layer of 1/4 inch Masonite or 1/4 inch birch, or gator skin/skatelite.
Great video and great timing. i was thinking about building one of these in the garage this winter.
What material do I pick up for coping? Thanks for the content, this will be a good father son project. 🤘👊

What would be your recommendation for a proper threshold plate?
Not sure yet. I will make a video about it once I buy some and install it.
How high is this ramp?
What’s the estimated price for all this? Tryna fine if it’s worth it or just to save up for a kit.
Very nice work! I’m building a lot of grindboxes from recycled materials and placing them around my home town. Usually I use angle iron, but now I want to use a long pipe. (Not very thick). I was wondering if you could help me out with a question? I know that the pipe should probably stick out a bit on the top of the box..? But what about on the vertical side/the side that the wheels will slide against? Should the pipe be pretty much flush with this side? And maybe also flush on the top? I want this box to work for crocked grinds too. I’m guessing it should be placed different than it would on a ramp..? Sorry, I have written this question on three of your videos now, hoping that you will read one of them. 😄 -Greetings from Norway 🛹🙋♂️
Flush on the side is best. A mm or two higher for the top edge👍
@@justkeepskating8888 Thanks! 👍👍🛹🔨
the coping seems a little sunk in so it doesnt seem like doing a rock to fakie would be difficult
So if the ramp is always kept inside can you just skip the metal threshold and have the masonite layer act as threshold?
Yes, but once the bottom starts wearing or cracking, you can add a strip of sheet metal.
Hey Ben!! First off man I’m a huge fan of both your skating and all your videos. I don’t quite understand how you got the transition radius… was that a 4ft piece of rope and you just drew quarter circle?
9" x 1/16" sheet metal
More tutorials on building obstacles?
Lot's more coming.
@@justkeepskating8888 awesome!
how much would this cost around?
what logo is that on your hoodie, i have it carved into my spanish class desk as well as a local skateshops name lol
Red Dragons
how are you liking the real board brand ? thinking of getting one
I like them :)
Awesome video and tutorial! For a small quarter, overall, do you prefer at 2 foot or 18’ like you built? Really debating between those two heights.
Good question. I built 2ft tall quarterpipe and honestly you really have to push hard to get to top of ramp. Also frontside pivot scary. I do wonder if 1.5ft would be more fun
@@GoogleUserGoogle1 really appreciate your thoughts. With that said, if I build one I’ll prolly go 1.5ft now. Be blessed.
@@cptcarl83 No problem! God bless you as well! If you remember, let me know how your 1.5ft quarterpipe is and even post video! I have a video of mine on my channel. Hope your build goes well!
Also here is a vid of another guys 1.5 ft tall ramp. It looks super chill and great for learning tricks ua-cam.com/video/hZ1AP_QaWig/v-deo.html
Oh man nice !
I just finished building a 2 foot mini ramp with 68 in transition , just snappy enough and not too mellow. I javemt done Masonite yet, we are skating too later of plywood. Curious, I have 1/4 Masonite ready, but I’m getting conflicting info on placement . Do you need to screw the Masonite down onto the studs as well? Just trying to make sure I get it dialed. Posted a UA-cam short of my kiddo trying it out ;)
It depends. If it's indoor it doesn't matter. If it's exterior, well....masonite might be a problem anyway so I'm going to assume it's indoor.
@@justkeepskating8888 thanks man :) yeah it’s an indoor basement mini
Going to use 1/4 inch Masonite just wasn’t sure to mount to studs or not
Really
Enjoying your. Ideas . Super helpful for my son and myself !
In Britain it’s called a crotchet pipe.
So you say you will never build a mini ramp for your son! Do you buy the skatelite at the hardware store?
I didn't say that!!! I just won't enjoy putting all the screws in😂. You can't buy it at the hardware store. I get mine at Ultimate distribution in Canada.
Has anyone ever said you sound like mr. vandreesen from beavis and Butthead
D I Y skating is how it all started. Paint your ramps too they will rot slower.
🙂👍
noooo dont drill a hole in the coping to put a screw in. drill a hole and put a j hook in it and attach it to the 2x4 frame
you sound like the guy from zoolander
First view first comment do I win a new complete?
Maybe when we get this channel to 100,000 subs :D
I'm lmao at the use of a jigsaw. Toral noob. Carpenter, my ass.
How much was this to make?
