Hey uncle Ben! Thank you so much for being the real inspiration! You inspire me to: 1. Getting back on the board again 2. Wake up early morning and skate (i have to work daily at 7:30) 3. Learn about construction 4. Built my own playground (box, rail, etc) 5. Film myself skating and upload it for to see my progression. Gonna work my speaking skill next! Keep up the good work!
shout out these guys for being better role models that some of the ones we had when we were looking up to skaters in the early 90's. We were ALL just kids back then so it's somewhat understandable, but it's just nice to see skating moving in the right direction.@@justkeepskating8888
Thank you ben. The truck madness is finally fading away. I’ve made a rule that I will only try another pair of trucks until my 144s are grounded down to the axle. Seems like I always end up on indies anyways lol
I've only witnessed Ben legitimately pull his groin once. The sound was deafening. His voice: unrecognizable. Everyone in Tim Hortons was mortified. Thank God they have a seemingly endless supply of napkins.
Hello Ben, Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but any info on this tennis court you're using? Looks like you have free reign to build and skate here! Looks sick, and I wonder what future plans and obstacles you have for the space. Take care!
I built a box with my dad when I was like 11 with some old wood and it had no coping and was square, so it didn't grind at all but I did get pretty good at manuals on it. I really could have used this video back then.
Yo man. I love your videos. I am 34 years old and have been skating since I was 5. I wish I had a show like this back then. You are kind of like the Mr. Rogers of skateboarding. Nice mellow voice. Funny comments. Pullover and khakis. Yeah you are Mr.Rogers. Thanks man. Time to go build a box.
Carpentry is so good that I did it for a year with the worst boss I've ever had and still enjoyed it. You won't regret it. One of the most valuable experiences of my life.
Man, you're probably only a few years older than I am (36) and I really wish I would have paid more attention when my father was showing me how to build different things. I grew up on a farm so you can imagine how many different projects we did over the years. I do remember it being fascinating that my dad could just do all this stuff without referencing anything and just knowing which tool to use for what. If someone held a gun to my head I could probably still build a box to skate but I'd still struggle or over analyze it and it wouldn't be nearly as good this.
Definitely take your time picking out your lumber when you buy it--splits and twists can take away from the quality of the finished product, or at least make the project more of a headache.
flashbacks of being at home depot going thru lumber with my boss and him just being like "nope...nope...nope...nope...nope... ok this one's good... nope...nope..." me- "my back hurts"
Nice! I would definitely have worked out the dimensions of the coping beforehand, so as to avoid all that lenghtwise cutting! Also, if you left the metal sticking out a little more on the side, maybe you wouldn't need the skatlite at all under the coping. But hey, it turned out great!
Great selection of tools and materials, with a skilled tradesman using them to create something is a joy to watch. How much are you charging for admission into this skatepark? 😁😉
I LOVE my stiletto T-bone. If you swing a hmer a lot, it's so worth the $250. Also, any reason you didn't use 2x6's or 2x4'sfor the joists? I know it's getting fancy but I would've I would've used a smaller joist & ripped say 1½" off the bottom of the rim joists leaving like a foot at the ends full width. That was it puts it on 4 feet, instead of all that area touching the ground, and lets you get your hands under it easy.
Ben, you said that the 8”x 10’ box isn’t the best for learning tricks on, what size do you think would be best? Do you think 2” round coping would be lame for learning different grinds?
How many times have you hit your toe by accident? I don't think I'd be hanging my foot over right by the nail I was whacking, but then we m a lay person.
I wish I had my own tennis court I can sk8 on.. There is 1 in my town but the ground is soo rough that its not even worth it. Rather sk8 back and forth on the road in front of my house
why do you have a lefty circlular saw i frame houses and our saw blades face us ive tried to cut a long rip of plywood with one and it was pretty difficult whenever you make one of thoes plunge cuts and you hold that gaurd up it scares me
@@justkeepskating8888 The box looked great dude. I've been meaning to make one lately but keep putting it off....it's definitely worth the effort. Now I feel like I have to 😆😊👍
Always stoked when you combine both passions.
Ben low key built himself a private skatepark out of that tennis court, hahahaha! Love it!
Finally Vancouver Carpenter meets Skate Channel. Loving these videos.
Glad you like them!

Wise man. I only take part in truck madness when I get them for free. Indy's for me, the rest for thee. 🔥

Really glad I found your channel man! I absolutely loved this video
I think it's the best that your son is recording and learning some actual useful stuff. Kudos to you Ben.
Ohh my goodness your daughter drawing the Spitfire head ! So awesome! 🙏

This guy's kid is lucky, hes got the coolest dad in Canada. That's the best compliment I can give someone.
great to see you. im preparing ideas to build a skatepark in my garden. these videos are always useful. thanks ben

🔥🔥🔥 Fun box. I back it.
Came to watch box build, which looks great, but was more impressed with hammer accuracy. Well done.
Wait a minute! Is this the same dude that taught me how to drywall my house over at Vancouver Carpenter? What a dude
Sure is!
That's a fine looking shred slab chief
I loved the spitfire drawing.
thanks for sharing !
I super enjoy Ben's content so much to the point where I want to follow my granddad's footsteps and learn carpentry.
Carpentry is so good that I did it for a year with the worst boss I've ever had and still enjoyed it. You won't regret it. One of the most valuable experiences of my life.
dudes got mad hammer skills so consistent
Most competent carpentry I’ve seen in any skiting vid
Nah Ben, YOU’RE the simple stud layout 😍😍😂
I love skate boxes, wasn't building one because I thought the rain would ruin it, now I think about all the fun that can be have before its ruined.
That final switch back tail was stunning!
The depth markings on track saws are accurate, when used with the track.
Makes sense!
That box sounds like it skates so good
Yeah Ben !!!
I like your videos
Great video Ben! Wish I had the space to build and place a box like that one
Hell yeah ben festool are the best! Nice work
You lost me at math. Hahah. Loving the new vids. 🙌🏽❤️❤️❤️

Also, was 4 screws holding the coping on really enough? I always thought you'd need some kind of adhesive to keep it in place as well.
It's still there :) Gravity helps a lot in this case.
A great skater and a great carpenter
Really helpful video, I watched to the end. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Good video
If you hook up and pitch on a 8 foot it's just the wrong length to land right on the edge of the other side. 10 is just right
hi Ben i love watching your video im learning a tons of stuff thank for sharing love from France
Awesome Box! 💯
You should make a video making a decent sized ramp to put at one end of the tennis court, maybe 6ft or something
I thought I gonna go to sleep but Ben posted goddamnit
Just kidding haha
For marking 16” layout the red numbers on the tape are your 16” increments - so take 3/4” away from the red numbers and do even less thinking
Maybe go to a steel scrap yard to try find cheap/free coping !
Carpentry is all about "Being smarter than the wood Ur working with!".
looks more like a canoe with all the water vancouver leaves laying around
So wholesome.. thanks for
This is a great video ben! I'm gonna try to make it with me old man eh but dissing home depot is gonna make it hard LOL!
So awesome mad wholesome
When ever you make a skate video and you start talking about the differences in hammers - you know you're in for a good time.
Definitely take your time picking out your lumber when you buy it--splits and twists can take away from the quality of the finished product, or at least make the project more of a headache.
I always delve into the timber at the yard. I'm not embarrassed to look for decent lengths without splits, twists or excessive knots in them 😁

Planing the cord to copper is an old hair stylist trick... do you have another channel your holding out from us? 👍 great stuff bro!
That square is meant for stairs! But can do many other things like making marks or an actual cutting guide! 👍🤙
this is so rad man, love your channel, where is this at? giving me a courts kinda vibe in Vancouver but its like your own 2.0 version lol
You should build an a frame ramp maybe with a rail or ledge it's the most fun obstacle to skate in my opinion
19oz Vaughan axe handle all day every day. Btw don't forget to crown your lumber.. 🔨
Great vid. I’m curious is this your property or a community property?

Holy shit, the 3rd Degros channel. What did I do to deserve the honour of finding such a place?
is it fully rain proof or do i have to put a tarp over it , also it snows here a lot in the winter
let's go!
Nice video but I noticed a notch cut in your. Saw cord to help prevent those I suggest putting the cord over your pouches other then that good shit
i have pulled my groin moving lumber with my foot haha
dude I did that trying to push a cinder block like a soccer ball...sometimes I just don't think.
😂 Yup. If you've done it you know!!!

great job on the build, got a question about the skatelite, where in BC can one purchase sheets? or do you know of anything I can substitute for it?
Ultimate distribution
Maybe you can use angle iron but rond it of with a angle grinder... for around the pad
I'm not much younger than you but I can just relate to your channel. Do you plan to turn that whole court into a private skatepark?
It already is :)
can framing screws be used instead of nails?
What are the tools names that you’re using in the video.
How would the 8" o.c. perimeter decking screws hit your framing if they are 2" from the edge, considering the framing is 1 1/2" wide?
nice
I wish I had $1000+ to buy all that wood
How many times have you hit your toe by accident? I don't think I'd be hanging my foot over right by the nail I was whacking, but then we m a lay person.
Never. My thumb however has been acquainted with my hammer😂
Great video Ben! What wall thickness is that square tubing?
Most likely Sch. 40 Standard. 1/8 would probably be too thin and Sch. 80 would be too heavy in my opinion.
@@FamousKr3w214 Thanks for the info, i'm in the process of switching my angle iron boxes to tubing, I'll know what to order now!
Hey Ben!!! How’s that concrete ledge you built like 3 years ago? Can we see how it is now?
I will do an update some day :) It's still good!
