I love my Hulk. Bought it new for $8,500 with no tax on a trip to Paris. Wear it almost every day. Never thought it would actually appreciate like this.

I have the Hulk and it’s really beautiful, I have had it for a long time and I hope to give it to my son when he finishes his university studies. I think it is cuter than the Kermit, because of the bracelet, the ceramic bezel and the color of the dial. I estimate the same will happen with the SD43 when it is discontinued. Green in general isn't really my color, but if I had to pick a green Submariner I'd have to say the dial on the Hulk really does stand out and I agree that the bracelet does give it an edge over the original Kermit. I've had the new green Submariner on my hands and on the wrist and I do like the case shape & fit of it much more, but I think they made a mistake in taking away the green dial. You may be on to something with the SD43, as it's defnitely one of the most wearable modern Sea Dwellers being only 43mm, and Rolex has introduced and discontinued quite a few variants on the Sea Dweller over the last few years so if this follows that pattern and has a short production cycle then it could be a more sought after piece - this along with it being the first Sea Dweller with a cyclops, and being introduced as an anniversary model too all that adds in its favor.
hi, what are your thoughts about the original 50th anniversary Kermit 16610LV? its value is about the same as a hulk now although it's more inferior in terms of specs. it is now worth 3-4x the original retail price. and some are expecting the hulk's price trajectory to be similar although it was produced in greater numbers vs the Kermit
I actually quite like the Kermit, and of the three green submariners made its the only one that's actually an Anniversary model vs being regular production. It also was the first to introduce green to the submariner and lastly in terms of specs its actually not that far off the Hulk - both use the 3135 though the Hulk does get the Parachrom hairspring - though of course the Hulk does have a better bracelet & scratchproof bezel. The one thing the Kermit is missing is the hype. IMO it's hit the prices its at in the more "traditional way" - firsts for the brand & model line, special/anniversary edition, low production numbers, discontinued for over a decade now. So I think in the long term when the hype shifts to other models, the Kermit will eventually surpass or at least stay neck & neck with the Hulk. I imagine both of them will be perceived as classics though. As a preference I prefer the Kermit, but also in general i prefer the look of the 16610 in general vs the supercase ceramic Submariners so there's probably some bias there hehe
You nailed it on the head about the all the ingredients for a long success (price increases) of the Hulk. I can imagine at some point Rolex will make another new Hulk (green bezel with green dial) but will not revert to the maxi case hence the original Hulk will be even more sought after.
Yeah, or perhaps they'll do a green lacquer dial instead of sunburst - similar to how they did with the Smurf, the good thing for Rolex is that since they never make particularly big changes it leaves them plenty of options for when they do want to make a change

Without a doubt if there's one thing people don't give Rolex enough credit for its their mastery of proportions and just making a watch that fits pretty much anyone, I think more than any specific marketing effort or technical advancement this has been a huge factor in their succss - they're easy to like because they look good on any wrist
Oh what it must have been to buy it back then, where it was probably just a cool novelty and way to match a good, reliable watch with his scrubs vs today were probably most people are thinking 1st, 2nd, 3rd about the resale value instead of the watch itself. IMO that's the biggest downside to the Hulk - its resale value tends to get more attention than its own merits

Yeah, it's unfortunately almost a rite of passage for most new collectors or collectors looking to get their first Rolex to find out how insane the market is on these watches. That being said though, if you're after a green watch from the Rolex group you can always try the Tudor Black Bay Harrods - still sells for above retail but nowhere near the insane premiums on the Hulk or the Cermit/Starbucks. Another option, albeit without the "brand value" is the green Oris Aquis Date (Ref. 01 733 7766 4157-07 8 22 05PEB), or also the the Breitling Chronomat Bentley Edition (AB01343A1L1A1) and Premier B01 Bentley Edition (Ref. AB0118A11L1A1) have nice green dials and none of those last three have the hype pushing their prices to crazy territory.
Well that is the $18,500 - $30,000 question. IMO a lot depends on really how much one wants it. If your heart's set on it and can afford it, then get it. If you can afford it now and don't want to miss out...probably get it too because the prices in the short term are likely to keep going up. If you want it just because its green or want a good quality luxury dive watch, IMO there are better divers, better green watches that you can get for less. But in the end it comes down to personal preference and why one wants one in the first place :)

I told her to get it and it’s been discontinued recently so it will continue going up in value and secure it ASAP, we was advised to get the 2020 version, I told her to keep the 2010 version and get the 2020 too, since she’s never made a business investment ever, I told her she has the money then get both! And hold it. We are getting told by other people to return the discounted 2010 Rolex, and we should get 2x 2020 watches that aren’t discounted instead, I told her they aren’t discounted they are nothing close or as rare as the Hulk will become. What’s your thoughts please it will matter a lot.

Buying the right color in a $5000-15000 watch is the sole most important thing. Why would I buy the wrong color watch for that kind of money? Also, it makes absolutely no sense to me that I would walk into a Rolex dealer, with money, and magically, not only will they NOT take my money, but they don't make enough watches to keep up with supply. Rolex needs to teach thousands of people how to make their watches the right way, and produce thousands more watches per year. Anything short of this is a disservice to their customers, and as a potential customer of Rolex, I can't help but walk into the Omega and Breitling dealers in my local mall instead. Why would I wait around when told "Come back in 3 months if we haven't called you" when I could just go next door and get a Seamaster 300m, or a Navitimer?
💯this crazy market just gives people more reasons to explore other brands, hopefully eventually this will cause prices to normalize and in the meantime it helps to lift up other brands as people flock towards them due to Rolex dealers not having their most popular models

Glad you liked the video :) I moved to Delhi just under 2 years ago and I've seen first hand how the situation has evolved over here in terms of protests as well as the camps around the city borders. I wouldn't be surprised if additional/alternative causes have latched onto the protests too - the same thing happened in my own country (Chile) in 2019/20 when there were protests going on - unfortunately it happens with most protests that additional causes will join in or take advantage of the situation. That being said the mention in the video is focused on supporting the basic humanitarian needs that a lot of the protesters, the farmers & their families are currently going without during this time & I also made sure to include some links in the description so people can further educate themselves on the situation & draw their own conclusions on what (if anything) they want to support, or they can always just continue on to the next watch video. End of the day this is and will remain 99.99999999% a watch channel :)

So far I've enjoyed it though the pandemic also curbed my ability to explore & travel around so I haven't really been able to experience and explore as much as I'd originally hoped to, fingers crossed once things get back to normal & we're vaccinated then I can explore more. @@ShahLusso Jaipur is an incredible city. They have a sun dial that’s like 300 years old (among other time related items). It incredibly big as the King wanted it to be accurate to the seconds! It’s an incredible city with super nice people and history.

The reason why there are so many is because more people are selling their hulks because prices went up. People are keeping there black subs. Thats why you cant compare how many are up for sale. 😏
That could be a factor, I wish I had tracked the amount for sale as well for the 116610LN . The only reference I have for past units for sale is for the Hulk from Jan 2020 when I did my Tudor vs Hulk video, at that time there were ~600 Hulks for sale vs now ~700, so a modest increase in units for sale and you're right it's probably due to more people cashing in on their Hulks now vs before. Unfortunately, I don't have any past data to see what the change there was in the amount for sale for the black bezel 116610 before & after it was discontinued - but imagine those saw a modest jump too as the black ones are selling better than before too, just not as crazy as the Hulk.
Great video as always but I don't get the rolex fascination. The sub to me is worth about 7000 retail. There's lots of 40 mm divers out there and better made watches I just don't get it. I mean I like rolex watches but come on the hype is so silly but kudos to rolex the king of marketing for sure
TBH its bizarre. Whenever I do these videos I can see the road how we got to this point, but what baffles me is how at no point did enough people stop and say "why am I paying above retail for a pre-owned, current production watch" obviously the latter part doesn't count now that its discontinued but that doesn't explain the last 5 years of its production cycle - but the answer lies in the hype on social media. Honestly I don't even give Rolex credit for it because I don't think this is something they engineered, they just rode the wave when they saw it - IMO its Instagrammers, UA-camrs and gray market dealers that have fueled it much more than Rolex's own marketing department.

You have the sought after shoes in the app. Once they are gone then you have to get them for a te realer for 4 times what they cost. Woman’s bags etc ect. It’s going on across the board now it has just moved to Rolex as well the last few years.
Non precious metal watches with colored bezels like Batman Pepsi hulk going for 20k is silly! Look at Conor mcgregor’s new day date and collection all pieces are precious metals and hold value better as this market flattens out. Market moving toward gold and platinum.
McGregor does have. pretty insane collection, and your theory isn't that far fetched either - with where prices are they've getting so close to precious metal prices I wonder if by the time they reach that threshold some customers will just switch onto the precious metal since they'd already be spending so much - at this stage the Hulk's pre-owned price is already half way to the pre-owned for a 116619LB Smurf or a green dial 116718LN GMT.

When hulk was being manufactured, I didn’t want it because there was a voice inside my head saying, ahh I could have that watch whenever I want it. Now, that voice has been told he’s wrong, and can’t believe he let the opportunity to buy it is now gone. Now that voice has to live with the fact that this watch is $20K. The voice wasn't sure if he liked the way it looked back then, now that voice loves the way it looks, all because the watch is no longer being made. Stupid voice!

I wouldn't be surprised if additional/alternative causes have latched onto the protests too - the same thing happened in my own country (Chile) in 2019/20 when there were protests going on - unfortunately it happens with most protests that additional causes will join in or take advantage of the situation. That being said the mention in the video is focused on supporting the basic humanitarian needs that a lot of the protesters, the farmers & their families are currently going without during this time & I also made sure to include some links in the description so people can further educate themselves on the situation & draw their own conclusions on what (if anything) they want to support, or they can always just continue on to the next watch video. End of the day this is and will remain 99.99999999% a watch channel :)

@@underdog5081 My girlfriend's from India so I moved here to be with her, we'll probably stay here for a little while longer until the pandemic subsides. So far I've enjoyed it though the pandemic also curbed my ability to explore & travel around so I haven't really been able to experience and explore as much as I'd originally hoped to, fingers crossed once things get back to normal & we're vaccinated then I can explore more. Any recommendations of where to visit are more than welcome :)
@@ShahLusso Jaipur is an incredible city. They have a sun dial that’s like 300 years old (among other time related items). It incredibly big as the King wanted it to be accurate to the seconds! It’s an incredible city with super nice people and history.

The reason why there are so many is because more people are selling their hulks because prices went up. People are keeping there black subs. Thats why you cant compare how many are up for sale. 😏
That could be a factor, I wish I had tracked the amount for sale as well for the 116610LN . The only reference I have for past units for sale is for the Hulk from Jan 2020 when I did my Tudor vs Hulk video, at that time there were ~600 Hulks for sale vs now ~700, so a modest increase in units for sale and you're right it's probably due to more people cashing in on their Hulks now vs before.
Unfortunately, I don't have any past data to see what the change there was in the amount for sale for the black bezel 116610 before & after it was discontinued - but imagine those saw a modest jump too as the black ones are selling better than before too, just not as crazy as the Hulk.
Great video as always but I don't get the rolex fascination. The sub to me is worth about 7000 retail. There's lots of 40 mm divers out there and better made watches I just don't get it. I mean I like rolex watches but come on the hype is so silly but kudos to rolex the king of marketing for sure
TBH its bizarre. Whenever I do these videos I can see the road how we got to this point, but what baffles me is how at no point did enough people stop and say "why am I paying above retail for a pre-owned, current production watch" obviously the latter part doesn't count now that its discontinued but that doesn't explain the last 5 years of its production cycle - but the answer lies in the hype on social media.
Honestly I don't even give Rolex credit for it because I don't think this is something they engineered, they just rode the wave when they saw it - IMO its Instagrammers, UA-camrs and gray market dealers that have fueled it much more than Rolex's own marketing department.

@@ShahLusso it’s Rolex being so recognized is the way it is. It’s not only Rolex experiencing this it’s lost of other company’s too. Nike for example. You have the sought after shoes in the app. Once they are gone then you have to get them for a te realer for 4 times what they cost. Woman’s bags etc ect. It’s going on across the board now it has just moved to Rolex as well the last few years.

Non precious metal watches with colored bezels like Batman Pepsi hulk going for 20k is silly! Look at Conor mcgregor’s new day date and collection all pieces are precious metals and hold value better as this market flattens out. Market moving toward gold and platinum.

McGregor does have. pretty insane collection, and your theory isn't that far fetched either - with where prices are they've getting so close to precious metal prices I wonder if by the time they reach that threshold some customers will just switch onto the precious metal since they'd already be spending so much - at this stage the Hulk's pre-owned price is already half way to the pre-owned for a 116619LB Smurf or a green dial 116718LN GMT.

When hulk was being manufactured, I didn’t want it because there was a voice inside my head saying, ahh I could have that watch whenever I want it. Now, that voice has been told he’s wrong, and can’t believe he let the opportunity to buy it is now gone. Now that voice has to live with the fact that this watch is $20K. The voice wasn't sure if he liked the way it looked back then, now that voice loves the way it looks, all because the watch is no longer being made. Stupid voice!

With an original retail of 9k (in 2020 post the price hike, pre discontinuation), prices ranging from low outliers at 18k and high outliers at over 30k, majority being listed between 20-30k, concentrated around the 25 mark. 9k * 3 = 27k.
