- The Orlando Magic have long acted very conservatively with their offseasons. There is almost an expectation the team will do the simple things this offseason rather than a big, splashy move.
The Magic though do have the ability to do something big. And they could steal some headlines if they wanted to. So why not go for it? One way or the other, the Magic have to ensure they keep up with the Eastern Conference and not get left behind.

This is the summer to be aggressive. My top trade targets that are possibly on the block are:
1. CG Anfernee Simons - Blazers. 2. G/F Mikal Bridges - Nets 3. PG Trae Young - Hawks 4. PG Darius Garland - Cavs. I would add both Simons and Bridges, but definitely Simons, if possible and use Cole Anthony, Jett Howard, Caleb Houstan, and lots of draft compensation as collateral while trying to keep our frontcourt intact and our 2 young defensive backcourt studs in Suggs and Black. I like both Jett and Caleb and would like to keep them, but would use them to get a more versatile higher upside player like Bridges. I think we can get Simons with mostly draft compensation.
Man, the Magic really could have done so much better than Howard at 11 last year. He will be good, but not as good as a few other guys taken after him. My top 3 prospects on the board at 11 were 1. Jordan Hawkins (the game of a young Klay Thompson in the body of a young Kerry Kittles) 2. Grady Dick 3. Keyonte George. In hindsight my top 2 picks would have been 1. Hawkins and 2. George (who proved to be a far better playmaker and passer than I thought, allowing him to play as a tall PG instead of an average height ball dominant SG). Dick was good, but not on either one of their levels last year. Podziemski would have been better than Howard, who is a spot up shooter, which just isn't as valuable as players who are in constant motion a la Steph and Klay in their heyday.
In this year's draft the Magic have pick 18 and the 5 players I most like that could be there at 18 or available with a small trade up to 12 -15 are:
1. PG Jared McCain - Duke (being criminally undervalued and has a game similar to a young Steph Curry - can play point, shoot the lights out of the ball with deep range and will be in constant motion when the ball is not in his hands) - I think he might end up being the best player in the draft a la Steph Curry and Donovan Mitchell
2. C Kal'el Ware - Indiana (Similar body type, athletic profile, and game to Sarr. Has a good shot with range, good rebounder and shot blocker, has some post up moves and is a really good passer)
3. PF Tyler Smith - G League Ignite (a cross between Bam Adebayo and Kevin Durant - not saying on that level, but is very bouncy and is a good shot blocker at 6'9" with long arms and a sweet looking jumper with deep range. Is a great lob threat and cutter to the basket as well)
4. CG Carlton "Bub" Carrington - Pitt (has a really good all around game, plays with pace and can run the show as a tall PG with a solid shooting stroke, good handles and good passing - good defender as well)
5.SF Tristan Da Silva - Colorado (tall, long, and thin with a sweet shooting stroke from deep and good all around game)
There are others that would be solid picks as well, but these are my favorite.
My free agent targets would be as follows and depending on what trades and or draft picks are made:
1. CG Malik Monk - Kings 2. SG Gary Trent, Jr. - Raptors 3. CG Isaiah Likely - Raptors 4. PG Tyus Jones - Wizards 5. SF Patrick Williams - Bulls. I do not want to sign players in their mid to late 30s - that's a different timeline than the one we are working on now. Our core is too young and should only be looking to sign players in their 20s to early 30s. If we are able to say, in some fantasy get both Simons and Bridges in trade, keep our frontcourt intact, keep our 2 young defensive backcourt studs in Suggs and Black, then, and only then, would I consider signing Klay Thompson or Paul George to provide the veteran leadership needed in the playoffs, but would still prefer to sign the lesser, but much younger, Gary Trent, Jr. in that case. There are no home runs to be had in free agency this year, the only home run would be getting Simons and Bridges.
I wouldn’t mind if the Magic brought in Klay. I was originally against the idea but I think his movement shooting would really open up the floor. Obviously he would be a good spot up option but his movement shooting brings gravitas that they were missing last year. He’s a good defender as well.
But if they did add Klay or PG I would prefer they mostly stand pat elsewhere and give AB and Jett mins. Maybe draft another wing to compete with Jett for mins. Invest some money to keep Goga around and keep the bigs together.
That would make a bench unit of AB, Jett, Cole, JI, and Moe with Goga as a 3rd center.
I mean, if they get both Tyus AND Malik, basically replacing Gary and Kellie, I could live with that. Prolly 5 wins better.
Need legit size at the guard position… iffy on Tyus
like i said if mia ny bos lal gsw phili hell even cleve had a star like paolo and had 50 million in cap space there going a big fish not no bench player like jones kcp ect. its time for orl to put there name out
what do you guys think about drafting baylor schierman ? 6'6" can shoot off balance with volume, play the 2-3.
If the Magic draft Da Silva, would signing Tobias to a potentially cheap deal like mentioned still be plausible?
I'm pretty sure Monk ain’t going to Orlando for 20 million just to play on the bench

For Malik Monk, I doubt that $3-$5 mil to fill the 6th man role in Orlando is enough for him to leave the 6th man role in Sacramento where he is loved.

All those proposed moves and still no point guard! Suggs is not a realistic option. Eric Pincus needs to stick to the cap and stay away from playing GM.
I'm so sick of hearing the word grow with this team . I'm sick of housing crap players as WCJ , Harris, Houstan, Fultz and chuma. Cut the dead weight and bring in good players . The east is not daunting. The Magic can win now and be good for the next 2-5 seasons . Stop wasting good years of good players.

It isn't going after big fish for the sake of going after big fish. Everything still needs a purpose. I don't think it is necessary to get Paul George or Klay Thompson. But they need to be doing everything they can to improve the team and fit the vision they have for this roster. There is no sitting still this summer.
