- Following route 5 to Smethwick then route 81 of the national cycle network out of Brindley Place, Birmingham to the M5 motorway. cycling along and looking at Thomas Telford's Birmingham main line canal along the way. We take a look at the Birmingham canal loops and why they exist, the engine arm aqueduct, galton tunnel and Galton bridge.
Thank you so so much! I just got lost on route 81 due to the diversion. Your video showed where I went wrong ❤️
Thanks for watching, glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this interesting video. I have cycled part of the beginning of your route, going on the other side of the canal from Brindley Place, heading for Edgbaston Reservoir. I look forward to watching part 2 of this route as I have cycled parts of that too.
Its lovely to have these route in such a big city, part two will be out next week!
great thanks for a look at the detour for the canal closure very handy
Glad it’s of use, thanks for watching!
Love this, brings back memories, I used to follow the local NCRs to see where they went, some 10 plus years ago. Just walk the canals nowadays. Great video. Looking forward to the second part. 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it, part two will be out next week!
Very interesting and informative, as with your previous submissions. Thanks for taking us on your journey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I did this rote today, even though I watched this video I forgot about the tow path closure 😂 (still in force), I messed up the diversion and ended up on a different canal (notbeven sure which one) but managed to rejoin the route from the Gower branch canal 👍 a few extra miles but no harm done
No harm in a few extra miles lol, but such a shame the towpath has been left closed for so long with no end in sight! Thanks for watching!
great vid
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it!
It's the Utilita Arena now not national indoor arena! 👍🏻😎
Showing my age lol thanks for the update and thanks for watching!
@@cyclingn8 haha I still call it the Barclay arena!! Haha I make the trip regularly, it's an absolutely ace cycle route
That closure is still in place and is very frustrating riding to work and back to brindley place. Any ideas when the work will be finished?
Frustratingly there doesn’t seem to be a timeframe for when the closed section will reopen. It’s down to a building that is in danger of collapse that is not owned by the council, so could take some time to sort out. Thanks for watching!
@@cyclingn8 Ye I heard the building has a very dodgy wall but no one can come to an agreement over who should pay. I have been coming off at Sandwell & Dudley and getting back on at Smethwick Galton Bridge. I've found that the fastest route in and out of Birmingham myself.
That would drive me mad if that was my commute!
@@cyclingn8 ye it does drive me mad tbh, its such a nice ride straight on at dudley port through to brindley place otherwise.
@@EatsTreatsMREs hopefully the council get something sorted soon!
