    Rode today on a Brompton - the occasional small wheel obstacle but nothing impassable. Truly excellent route - thank you

    I have lived and worked within this loop the whole of my life, and regularly enjoy using the canal network and disused railway for walking cycling and occasionally fishing. The bit of canal that you cut out near Dudley has some interesting history, also you made no mention of Netherton reservoir or the Bumble Hole junction. Anyways, that said, you now have a new subsciber.

    Wonderful video. Loved seeing the areas i used to cycle on film. Especially the netherton tunnel. I'm interested as to what prep you might've made with your bike as to punture resistant tyres, or filled the tubes with 'slime', as thats what i've just done with my 'new' 2nd hand hybrid and to what you carry with you for the ride. I always carry a personal alarm too. Once again, great video, cheers.

      @@cyclingn8yes not bad! I’ve also ridden and run the netherton tunnel terrifying even with lights! The one thing - that section of the Wombourne railway past the station cafe and just after the little tube tunnel is often pretty horrible to ride - thick mud and sometimes motorbikes chewing it up - I tend to skip through Wombourne to the canal as it’s much nicer to ride and a gentle downhill makes it a bit of a whizz to Swindon. The first syllable of 'Stourton' rhymes with 'four' or 'pour', not with 'hour'. Confusing, I know, given the pronunciation of the name of 'Stourport', 'Stourbridge' and the river Stour, but there you go. And don't get me started on the pronunciation of 'Tettenhall', 'Wombourne' and 'Pensnett'. Whatever, this video brings back memories of doing this same loop in the opposite direction, some thirty five years ago, starting from near Stourbridge. It doesn't appear to have changed much, except that somewhere near Tettenhall (Tet'n'l) a lock keeper told me to dismount , as it was illegal to cycle along the towpath. Things, fortunately, have changed in that regard.

    • @cyclingn8
      @cyclingn8  4 місяці тому

      It’s normally my Welsh pronunciation I struggle with, and now I’m in trouble much closer to home! The Stourton pronunciation does surprise me as you say it is different to the other place names in the river Stour. Glad the video brought back memories, and that we can now cycle on towpaths with no issues! Thanks for watching!

    • @cyclingn8
      @cyclingn8  4 місяці тому

      It’s really not amazing, when you go out with the mindset that these are shared use spaces and treat every user with respect they do the same. A smile, a thank you and a bell if needed go a long way. There are no laws that govern these shared use spaces, but we do have the towpath code provided by the canal and river trust who look after these fantastic towpaths which most of the ride took place on, I would encourage all to take a look and most importantly treat people with respect and courtesy. We are not cyclists, pedestrians, dog walkers, drivers and should not be referred to as ‘you lot’ or boxed in as a group, we are all people and all should be able to enjoy these spaces. Thanks for watching and commenting, it all helps the channel grow!

    Is there any chance you can post the map somewhere? I'd like to walk/job this route, it's a bit hard to tell from the map when in video.

      I use Garmin connect to plan my rides, together with google maps and the sustrans website which shows national cycle network routes. You should be able to view the route here

    Great route until Netherton tunnel, which is hideous to ride on a bike, hence this route won’t be one for me

    • @cyclingn8
      @cyclingn8  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes the tunnel is certainly an experience, and not to everyone’s taste. You could cycle over the top I’m sure and avoid it, although that may require some more road riding. Thanks for watching!

    When will you get it, Wolverhampton is not and never has been in the Black Country.

    • @cyclingn8
      @cyclingn8  4 місяці тому

      Hey I tend to agree with that, but the route is either in or around the Black Country so hence the name, I’m not stating Wolves is in the Black Country. There are some who count Wolverhampton, or at least large parts of it as the Black Country, same for Stourbridge and other areas. I find it really interesting to hear the different points of view. Thanks for watching!

      The bank he was on is black country. The other side isn't. By any of the older descriptions it would be anyway. The coal seam is almost on the surface, and the first steam engine to pump from a mine is believed to be less than 50 feet from that bank where the Wyrley and Essington canal branches off. Trust me, the east side of the city is blqck country. Don't try telling the folks of Bilston and Willenhall they aren't ;)

      @@cyclingn8 wolverhampton certainly isnt, Black Country is the area where the coal seam comes to the surface - so West Bromwich, Oldbury, Blackheath, Cradley Heath, Old Hill, Bilston, Dudley, Tipton, Wednesfield and parts of Halesowen, Wednesbury and Walsall but not Wolverhampton, Stourbridge and Smethwick or what used to be known as Warley.

    • @cyclingn8

      I tend to agree with that area as the Black Country, but there are definitely some that include Wolves and Stourbridge in the area. In any case I’m sticking with my route name as it go through and around much of the area. Happy cycling.
