It's not about having multiple relationships before marriage. It's about not making dumb compramises, prioritising your dreams and making practical decision of divorce instead of torturing yourself & your wife/husband for decades.
Naga basically wanted her to give up her career (actually wanted her to only do sister/mother type roles). Meanwhile Sam wanted him to be a good son-in-law (help her in taking responsibility of her old parents) just like how she gives time to his family.
Both realised that their expectations are not gonna be fulfilled and it would only get more bitter, so they quit their relationship with mutual consent.
