I was barely 16. Some friends pulled up on me in a VW Rabbit on the drag in Austin Texas, asked if I wanted to go to a "Dead Show". I thought it was punk band or something. I said HELL YEAH! and got in the car, not knowing we were going to Tempe or really what was head of me. It truly was a LONG STRANGE TRIP. And I'll never regret getting in the car.
THIS IS GRATE ! the video quality (for amateur videos), the editing (if I may), the songs, their inspiration & groove .... a delightful 2nd set under the Arizona sun & clouds.... a very sweet 2nd set. Enjoy ! Set Two : 0:00 Samson and Delilah 8:52 Crazy Fingers ~ 17:37 Uncle John's Band ~ 26:28 Playin' Reprise ~ 36:05 drums ~ 55:10 space ~ 1:03:52 The Last Time ~ 1:09:54 China Doll ~ 1:16:09 Throwin' Stones ~ 1:25:48 Not Fade Away 1:34:51 encore : Brokedown Palace
#TexasDragonFly I've been subscribed to your YT channel for a few years now, and just want to thank you for sharing all these "gems"...and for the time and attention to the details. Your a Music Historian/Archivist/Head...a new generation that Dick Latvala would've truly appreciated. Anyway, great to see Jerry thinned out late '92...and Bobby really up front on the mix.
Headed up from Tucson for these shows and stayed with some girls at ASU. Can’t remember how I got anywhere beyond random kindness. When Brokedown Palace ended the 2nd night some slim blond hippie girl was kind enough to let me ride in the bed of her a Tacoma back to Tucson. Really fun times!
This venue fit the band like a glove. The energy here was very special in my opinion. I could feel it just driving in. I think it was meant to be played at more. I do not know why they did not. A big bowl in the middle of the desert and everyone was in a very good mood. Weather perfect. Coming out of Denver for sure. Man that was a rough hall but completely worth it. Amazing difference from night to night. Only those who attended can understand. I felt like we looked like a bowl of boiling spaghetti about to overflow. The place looked as if it was overflowing. I literally remember thinking anyone around was missing the most important thing going on in life if not at this show these days. Smiles ear to ear. Wink wink. Sunsets in AZ are the best. Hands down. I see it on the ocean but the desert throws a lot of color in those sunsets. The way the stage is set it was right behind them. Truly wonderful. I miss these days so much. It can never be repeated. That energy can not be found. It can in different forms but man oh man. I am a fan of this place for sure. I don't know if it was used since. I think maybe Motley Crue played it and it sucked after seeing the boys there. Just goes to show you the power of this band and its music.
Scott Zollo, T..I, & Dave field-we drove from Iowa city for these shows, Sunday bein THE show of all that I went to. Family window Payne….Dave was out China doll, had to pick him up just in time for throwin nfa broke dwn…..my 3 friends went on to hav better days, but not me. Those were the best days of my life.
Totally agree, Adam. You took the words right out of my mouth. One of the last truly great shows. Handful from this December 92 period and spring 93 were truly great. Not much (if any) after that. Spring '92 in Philly was when I first felt something was really wrong and it didn't seem like things would return to the greatness of 88/89-91 ever again. Anyway, you can tell from the video and the overall crowd vibe how great this venue and the entire day/evening was.
TheMc2599 to say this is one of the last truly great shows, is of course just your opinion, but in my opinion that’s just simply not true. 1993 was a better year with some great shows and Jerry was generally in better form than in 92, incorporating new songs and feeling inspired. With Internet Archive hosting their entire catalog, you can easily see for yourself there is ample evidence to dispel your over generalization of how things were.
Amazing show. I was tripping so hard I almost couldn't walk into the show. But I wasn't as bad as the guy who stripped his clothes off, climbed the barbed-wire fence, and ran across the desert to the highway trying to flag down a car. Great moment.
I went both days. The sleep deprivation and ect made second day all a blur. My first and only shows, and I kept thinking I was in a Medieval village in the parking lot…all the girls in the long skirts, kids, dogs… I had a great time…and I just went with some stoner friends. I honestly thought the Dead was just country music up til that point, I was into an entirely different genre. These 2 days in 92 made a believer out of me 😂 I even cried when Jerry died 🤷🏻♀️ they were the real deal.

I was tripping balls. Now I am 50.
Me too and me too
My friends put a "Virgin" sign around my neck, gave me mushrooms and said go get your ticket and enjoy.
That's weird, I was there and am only 46, you must have sped up a little bit. :)
A great show, with rare energy at an awful time in GD history. 92' may be the lowest point for the boys. This show is an anomaly. Enjoy!!!
adam kusler Yeah except Dec '92 had some excellent including 12/16, one of my favorite ever attended. Thanks for the video
