Think about this, Grace wrote this when she was 13.
Grace has been dismissive of her earlier work lately but even though she was only thirteen I honestly think this is a classic. Still gets me emotional when I hear it. Also, why I'm convinced Grace is a genius.
I agree. This song explains the inside of being in depression like nothing else. It’s insanely beautiful and intense and raw.
The interesting thing about this song is it was written within a two hour time period. She was working the studio working on her album. They were done working early say about 3PM and she wrote this before going home at 5.

John Martin, I can't say with 100% certainty but I've heard more than once that it was actually written in 20 minutes! Either way is completely mind boggling. Considering her age (13) and depth of her lyrics I'd still be astonished if I'd heard it took her a couple weeks to write!
This song really shows the genius of this girl and written at age 13 is incredible. All her lyrics are incredible. Thanks for a great reaction. She has a lot more incredible music. Even on her Instagram posts. Well worth exploring this one of a kind artist.
Grace writes and sings for people who pay attention to her lyrics, asking something of us. In concerts she encourages the crowd to sing with her. And each song has twists, as when it's suddenly about something happening as she's writing the song (at 3:25)! I love the way the lilting phrase you liked comforts us at the end, like rocking a baby. Your reaction, like the song, makes us want to listen to it again. Thanks!

I've listened to this song about 100? times? and each time I get very emotional. Not only the song but her emotions as she sings it. She gets into her songs. My favorite singer since AGT.

Grace is special.
Can you imagine being a 13 year old girl, fresh off winning America's Got Talent a few months earlier and now in the studio? She, being young and inexperienced in the whole 'music process', was being told to do this and do that. But, what makes Grace, Grace is who she is and not who people want her to be. So, she wrote this song.
The big problem with that is the fact she won’t be able to appeal to large audience! What she sings and write is considered very narrow and niche aimed at very limited and specific demographic! If Grace is fine with good - good! In my opinion talents like that should be Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift level of fame and recognition! But in today’s world of toxic social media medium, full of toxic shady divas roasting and dissing each other on daily basis it is impossible to achieve! You either in that toxic world of toxic society or you are not! It’s a shame, but it seems days when you could be both famous and talented at the same time are long since gone!…
Grace's genius comes from being an unbelievable thespian, getting into character is her genius. How does she master cover's, she gets into the part of how she thinks the song should sound. They instantly become her songs, almost forgetting they're cover's. Her writing ability is so good that every song is like a script that Grace can act out in song. I want to know her IQ, that's where it all starts. She's already in the mold of a Joni Mitchell or a Carole King, some day she'll be a great actor, combine the two arts with her unique voice... she'll be in a class of her own
Hi Andrew, we, who fallowing her from the beginning, saying that her IQ must be hit 200.Don’t forget Einstein was close to this number, 186, but probably I’m the only one to clear, that he was not Multitalented like Grace is.Everybody said that she is multitalented, but overlooking the difference between the two. She is one in a lifetime little genius, can you imagine what else she can hit us with in the future? Have you seen or listen her covering Miley s song? Do it if you don’t .Caution!!
The greatness in Grace is not the perfection of her voice or anything like that, it’s that she evokes emotion as well as about anyone. That is what music is all about. Everyone will get something different, but the bottom line is that it is compelling and draws you in and hits the feels. Bottom line.
I love miss Vanderwaal, great what you said about the song, she Is just a young lady, trying to have a voice, If It happens In this world who knows, certainly better then a lot that I have heard, very talented, and I hope a lot more to come, If not I will miss her. I have listened to Grace since her first AGT (which someone made me watch!). I have watched the video for this song at least 100 times because it's such an interesting song, well sung with meaning and feeling. I, too, love the fact that it's just her and a guitar in front of a small group of fans. She is so remarkably talented and her singing style is unique. I believe that she will only get better if she lets herself.

Hi I just started listening to your reactions to grace. who I’ve been following ever since she won AGT and I like everyone else was blown away by her incredible talent! especially the fact that she won with all her original material! which as far as I know? is a first on any talent show to date. but it’s not just her amazing song writing genius. it’s ‘her’ she just seems to captivate you with the way she can just “pull emotion” out of you it’s a gift incredible empathy that she has with her audience. HaHaHa, Todd,if I’m gonna die, witch could be closer than I think, I’m gonna reincarnated as a microphone made of some very very precious metal with diamonds all over it, so she will sing her songs directly in me, and this way I always gonna be close to her. And I just keep dreaming!!!
Listen to the studio version the music is beautiful
The mic here is so gained down for the out door environment it clips the subtly of how she sung it in the studio version. You can hear minute details in her earnest plaintive carving of each note. This sounds a little nasaly compared.
