The Last NFL GameDay

- NFL GameDay 2005 was the last NFL GameDay title, and surprisingly, it only released for the PlayStation 1 and not the PS2. It's a hidden gem, and a throwback to the late '90s when Sony's GameDay was the best NFL game you could buy.

NFL GameDay was amazing. The intros were amazingly hype. I loved them.
Agreed. Shame that intros in NFL 23 put players into eternal slumber way before the action.
Miss variety in NFL games
For real! We had game day madden and nfl 2K games, even blitz and it was great! Just like nba 2K and nba live and Kobe’s game and other kinda basketball games in the early years
Man I remember renting NFL Gameday from Blockbuster on my PlayStation 😢 good times
Yup!
Now i am about to buy it later.
I miss blockbuster 😭
Indeed😢🫡💯
989 also made college football video game series called NCAA GameBreaker with 2004 being the last college football video game to compete with the more popular EA NCAA Football series it is worth checking out or making a retrospective on this game.
Hell yeah 💯 good times good times. They also made the NCAA final four series to compete with the ea march madness games. Final four was actually not bad imo
@@bbryant9455NCAA Final Four PS1 still better than all EA SPORTS games from 2020 to 2023.
My aunt had nfl gameday 98 on the ps1 and it was one of my favorite nfl games
Respect for the consistency and the quality. Best gaming channel under 200K subs!
I really appreciate that!
💪🏿 as the kids would say….fax😂
🔥🔥
@@SOFTDRINKTVsuch a shame that not even MADDEN NFL from 13 to 23 can match NFL GAMEDAY 2005 PS1 and all PS1 NFL games. Such a shame.
@@SpecterRust11as everyone was saying. LOL.😂
I still have my psone "slim" lol love that bad boy got it for my birthday at a roller rink. Life was good
NFL GameDay 2001 was my first football game I owned as a kid... I was horrible, it was hard, I'd give up every time... Till I used the Ravens once and ran HB Sweeps with Jamal Lewis all game long with major success and had a blast! RIP GameDay, you'll be forever implanted in my childhood memories
It was incredibly hard. Made me rage
This a throwback frfr. I remember one time i was playing against my cousin in the rain on NFL gameday and lightning struck when i got tackled and my person fumbled smh 😂😂
Gameday 95 was classic, I remember on BIG hits in the rain a lightning strike would happen at the exact moment... *Classic Game* .. 💯
Man you unlocked some memories with this one! Keep the videos coming!!
No doubt.
I was getting ready to eat & I saw this video on my notifications. I had never even heard of Road To Sunday. The story for the game sounds insane!
Bro you're in your bag with these drops. This the one I was waiting for
Agree.
NFL Gameday and NBA Shootout 2004 holds a special place in my heart to this day still 😩
Me too, despite NBA SHOOTOUT 2004 still bizarrely reviewed by Metacritic.
my friends and I played SO MUCH gameday 98 on playstation. man those were good times.
I remember getting game day 2004 with LT on the cover and I loved that game
I remember running the ball then watching my man limp down the field because they catch a cramp in the middle of the play 🤣
Honestly the nflpa has all the ability to bring an end to Madden having the only contract because it limits their individual ability to make money. As if there was multiple games to be a multiple NFL stars getting paid to be a part of each game
NFL Gameday 2005 miles above even FIFA 23.
The NFLPA is the most spineless, servile players’ union in professional sports today.
I was unaware this one existed. Never heard of Road to Sunday either. It's a shame Sony didn't keep the football games coming, even without the NFL rights.
NFL 23 < NFL GAMEDAY 1995 to 2005.
The PS2 were also good. I have both 04 gameday and 05 gameday for PS1. They are underrated and awesome. Just wished they continued it. Underrated studio. RIP 989 sports
I used to love gameday and nba shootout
Loving the consistent output of videos. Appreciate your work.
Gameday 99. Juke, juke, juke pull hammy touchdown lol
Awesome video. Love reminiscing on some of these old titles.
The juke move down the sideline in '99 GameDay was unstoppable!!
Thanks for having the original aspect ratio in this one.
Man U the Goat bringing back all my Childhood memories 😢
Game day 98 will always be my favorite memory of playing this game with my brothers cousins man we went hard on this game
I miss the days of having options when it came to sports games
same.
Same
Loved this brotha! My first GameDay and football game overall was GameDay 98. I still have it, these were better times my friend.
989 Studios was giving EA Sports a hard time for a minute back in the day
Love your videos and I think you're doing important work chronicling old sports games, which as you've noted in the past are understudied from a historical lens. Would like to see and hear more raw footage of the games (e.g. showing off the how the hushing of the crowd by home/away QBs sounds) -- I think it'd help illustrate what you're seeing when you study these games!
Road to Sunday would of been competition to blitz the league, because not only would be arcadey but also have rpg elements that would keep the game fresh. if the game also had a season mode or even a non-story based franchise mode, it would have also blew blitz the league out of the water as a rpg simcade game with a blitz the league style storyline. sadly that never happened and it would still be cool to have something like that even indie. because the way i see it now. triple A sports games have been baring the sanitized image of major sport leagues of our favorite sports and its slowly killing the sports games landscape. thats why nowadays people are moving towards indie titles.
Really enjoy your videos!
I streamed a whole season of franchise mode. Ill definitely be going back to it sometime.
Thank you for this golden nugget from my childhood 😌
And being able to play with injuries was *chefs kiss*
Was 1 of my favorite games cant lie
989 sports was awesome
GameDay was fun back in the day. When you just wanted to take a break from Madden try something different. I remember the juke move was so OP in this game.
OMG it was so op. Especially when using Jerome Bettis
Like you said, pretty crazy to see eli manning in ps1 graphics lol. I never had the gameday games as a kid, but picked up both '99 and ncaa gamebreaker '01 a few yrs ago. Fun titles.
Love you're content bro great stuff as usual
I think the reason Road to Sunday was canceled was because Blitz The League came out before the could finish it.
As always.. Great job!!
Gameday was the main reason I wanted a PS1 over an N64 back in the late nineties.
you ever thought about doing racing games, the competition was quite fierced on the ps2
Looking some player tackles seen more animation accurate than the magic animations of the recent maddens. Pardon my English.
Another great video!!
I miss nfl gameday i had 2000 it was fun i didnt get gameday 4 ps2 tbh i missed it
Hell yes! Pumping out the videos!
Nice vid bro!
Keep up the amazing work my brother 👂🏿🙏🏿💯🧠💖💕🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Seeing Jaromir Jagr in NHL 1991 on Sega Genesis makes me feel old since he still playing hockey today
GameDay 98 was my first game on ps1..To be 9 years old again😢
NFL Gameday was my football game back in the day before NFL2K5, the thing I loved most about Gameday is when you made a ferocious hit the screen would flash white with lightning and you’d hear a loud ass crackle of thunder at the same time……when I first saw that happen I startled the hell out of me…..😂😂
I remember Gameday being a big deal for 3 yrs in the late 90s … good times 🏈
For me since 1997.
The music gives a sad nostalgia feeling it’s kinda hard to explain but it’s dope
If anyone really wants to feel old. Jaromir Jagr is 51 still playing pro hockey overseas and he was in the original EA NHL Hockey on Sega Genesis that came out in 1991.
2:14 in today's society, that would be impossible because social media would of found out about the PS4 release 😂
I got all hyped to look for Road To Sunday, and then you mentioned it was cancelled. High, then low in seconds.
madden 05 also came out on the psx, it didnt have hit stick BUT helmets did come off. had to be tough to go against that.
Was my favourite game still have all of them on my shelf
GameDay '98 and '99 were my favorite of the Franchise. First officially licensed NFL games I played. Never played Madden until 6th gen era.
There are a lot of great memories playing a lot of these older NFL Franchises. GameDay, NFL QB CLUB, Blitz, 2K, and Madden, one of the last NFL Franchises I tried out, along with Fever, were so much fun playing and many enjoyable memories. Man, competition back then was a lifetime ago. Certainly doesn't feel like it was in this lifetime.
Never did play GameDay 2005. Not sure I've ever seen a copy and it was several years after that I realized it was developed and released only for the OG Playstation.
Would be awesome to have this competition again, but have it where gameplay matter and was enjoyable, not broken, was deep in game modes and wasn't stuck like today's microtransactions and gambling like implements.
All Pro Football 2K8 is currently my focus on football games and gaming in general
Great vid as usual. Back then I felt 989 ruined the series as the first two were solid before a drop in quality. Long time ago now.
Road to Sunday: Blitz meets Vendetta
I used to play 2005 on my old phone. Good times
989 had some good college games
I have a Ps1 and immediately bought this game. I love it too death
My guy💪🏿
Hey softdrink tv i been watching your mini documentaries since quarantine and i love them i just wanted to ask if you could make a retrospective video on every madden on the ps3 until madden 25
Wow classic! Keep up the content! Would you do any of the march madness games?
NFL Gameday 98 still holds up very well IMO. I would love to see it modded with modern rosters and teams.
GameDay '98 was the first NFL game I ever owned (though I played previous Maddens on friends' consoles) I feel like I remember Road to Sunday's hype on GameSpot etc. but might be convoluting that with Blitz the League
I was in high school in 98. Me and my friends played game day all the time. No played madden at that time
Are you still going to do the NBA shootout series? I'd love to see you breakdown the history and talk about how flooded the NBA gaming scene was in 97-98.. I was a kid and had 4 basketball games that year 😁. It was a time where shootout was direct rivals with NBA LIVE... Great times
I miss the commercials with the guy saying "989 sports".
Good times.
Never knew this existed. I thought GameDay 2004 was the last NFL GameDay title.
You can still play it on PS2 and PS3 through backwards compatibility
or emulate it on ur fone
I have nfl game day 97 and 98 and 99 and 2000 and 2001 on the ps1.
Road to Sunday sounds like it would have been an amazing story and Football game to play. Will never see anything with that kind of story now days.
Grew up with tecmo bowl, John Madden football, Joe Montana football the real ogs
man the Gameday games were great, the Gamebreaker was the best ever imo my cousin Rodney Williams was a Wildcat AZ at the time and good in that game
It was the college football game and Gameday that 989 Sports drop both those games was the most underrated game ever game day in College GameDay was the two sweetest games people slip on those games especially College GameDay
When the ps2 dropped, I remember NFL 2K3 took over being neck and neck with Madden. GameDay didn't stand a chance
I grew up playing Gameday 2003 before I ever tried Madden. Such a great game.
I belive theres a demo iso of road to sunday somewhere online.
NFL GAMEDAY WAS ELITE!! GAMEDAY WAS SMOKING MADDEN BACK IN THE DAY
GameDay was my favorite football game.
Yo can you do your dream nfl game luv the vids ❤
I used to play gameday at my local K-Mart good times
I was a gameday guy from 1996-2000..then switched to 2k
Can you do a review on the last MLB game for the PS one which was MLB 2005
I miss Xtreme games 1 2 and 3 Xtreme from 989 studio
Heh being able to play Ben Roethlisberger on the PS1 is very dope.
Yup I used to play NFL Gameday more than madden on the PS1.
I really hope that Sony get the rights to USFL or XFL or just make a football video games , I mean looks at there MLB the show is doing a great job and making them so money
When he says 2005 is similar to previous titles... Its as similar as 99 gameplay. It never changed in 6 years for those that hate madden for never changing.
Great video! BTW, would you ever do one on Madden 2005 for the PS1?
I know u damn lyin, madden 05 was on ps1? 🤯 lol
Edit: jus Googled it, wow lol
Can y do an video on the madden 24 beta
GameDay 03 was my favorite. It is still better than any Madden game I've played
NFL GameDay 99 for the original PlaySation you get to play the past Superbowl games
First NFL series i ever played , before Madden
