After watching the video I made a trip to Bishop, Goldfield, and Tonopah. It's the most fascinating area I've seen. Jeff gives incredible information that adds greatly to the visit. Thanks so much!
Took the family up to tonopah few months back we went up to the mine and did the tour..totally worth it he made the poloris tour so much fun and he's very knowledgeable..Mr Jeff is the man!!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm no mining expert, I rely on the people I interview explain what their places are about. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the episode.
@@TheAmericanLandscape : sorry. A stope is a chamber left after drill blasting an adit to cone up under the strike ( mineralized fault ) so that when you blast out the ore it falls down into your ore cart saving you time and most importantly gruelling effort. You keep going up till it peters out. The chamber left is the stope. Normally square setted. Hope that helps. Hey you know Jeff williams ? Tell him Scottish Graeme sent u. He's a Geology and mining enthusiast.

Thats the laziest explanation of stoping ive heard for a while. Its not just taking ore out but taking it in a specific manner 😊

I understand the mining companies have destroyed the landscape
In this case I would not say that's the case. At least from what I witnessed in the area.
Hydraulic and open pit mining will destroy the landscape, but deep mining such as was done in places like Tonopah do little long-term damage.
