Your videos always make me so happy. Such a genuine guy doing stuff so interesting. It's a good break from the clickbait anarchy of the rest of UA-cam. No one else would keep 'dirty water' in a jar for a year and document every amazing detail like you do. I love what you are doing and am looking forward to the next jar update. Love from Chicago Illinois, USA
Thank you Logan, that's really nice of you. I guess I have been keeping dirty water in a jar for over a year haha! I'm really glad there's people that like looking at videos of dirty water. Love from Amsterdam.
When hydras get hungry they actually detach themselves from their home-spot on the ground and drift towards the surface of the water. Up there they have a higer chance to catch food :) But when they do it they are already quite "desperate" at this point, so it's no wonder that you didn't see them anymore after that. And that also explains why you didn't see them before because they were probably attached in a spot where you couldn't see them ;)
Life in Jars? Sure thing! Also, have you ever considered getting a microscope? I think it would be very very cool to take samples of water from these jars and examine the organisms we can’t see with the naked eye, especially those super tiny unidentifiable little buggers all over the glass!
It's always awesome seeing your videos and inspired me to go adventuring foraging for my own ecosphere some failed and some do survive until now but most that died is the ones not near any sunlight.

It's awesome to hear that you've been here for so long! Brine shrimp are on my to do list! I tried fairy shrimp once, but they turned out te be brine shrimp so I fed them to my fish...
I made my first jar on Friday (23 Aug 2019). And 3 days later I watched this to find out I have Boogie Worms and a Planarian. Nice ! Did I hear boogie works right? Nothing appropriate shows up in a web search
A little neodymium magnet from ear bud speakers coated in hot glue from a glue gun to keep it from rusting. Left inside the jar so that if you want to film and there is to much algae on the glass, you could use another magnet to move the magnet inside the jar to clean the glass a bit. This way you have a little bit more influence inside the jar other than just turning it upside down ;)
I just started my first successful natural enclosed ecosystem. There are Copepods and ostracods aswell as some insect larvae. I hope algae grows as I seem to have terrible luck with keeping these sorts of things alive! Granted my failures were gathered at a pond a few meters from the ocean. Do you think the pond could have been brackish?
