- Eddie Cleanhead Vinson (as, voc); Hank Crawford (as); David Newman (ts, fl); Jimmy Rowles (p), George Wein (p); Milt Hinton (b); Alan Dawson (dr). Nice, July 8 and July 16, 1978. Please also visit my blog: crownpropeller.wordpress.com
Love this -- Rowles' comping brings a sense of the abstract to what might otherwise be run-of-the-mill soul jazz, and he sets up something unique behind each of the horns.
Absolutely right! Rowles' pianism was a real gem that enchanted so many sessions.
Wow! Three great saxophonists with a cookin' rhythm section.
Nothin' quite like jammin' outdoors on a beautiful day. God blesses it.
Always nice to have footage of Cleanhead!
Have also put some up from Montreux 1972 with Jay McShann.
Back in the golden years of jazz
Stirling stuff!!
Eddie Vinson knows how to deposit Organic Real Jazz that is coherent and logically progressive.
He sets the improvisational mood for tenorist David Newman who is forever great at manhandling the Blues with smooth pathos and soulfulness.
Hank Crawford is known for his sound which does command the audience's undivided attention.
Not known for being an ace improvisor, Hand Crawford offers a bit of a surprise herein.
He demonstrates that he can be reasonably effective in the amphitheatre of Blues ad libitum.
The Band does its thing admirably well.
Nice post!
seeing EV work out and flipping to some of his blue singing.. really gives you a measure of his broad deep talent.. and what humor !
This makes me feel very good..Thankyou
That's real honest to god bass playing. Master Milt Hinton!
Hank Crawford is definitely now on my list, along with Sonny Stitt and Eric Dolphy.. killin player.
