1988-1989 lessons with George on Grandmont St. in Southfield, also. Encouraging teacher (unlike some), gentleman, all around pleasant person. He and Charlie Gabriel are who I think about when I tell people there were wonderful people in Detroit.
Wow. Love finding this on UA-cam! Like a couple others here, I took lessons from George during a stint at Wayne State back in the 80s. But I never got a chance to actually hear him play with a combo or band, just in his role as an instructor playing bits and pieces by way of illustration. Hearing this video many years later is a real treat.
One of the best sax players around and an even better person. I had the honor of taking lessons with him. Outstanding teacher. Rest well Mr. Benson.
Rest in peace George "Sax" Benson 😥🙏
R.I.P. George Benson. A all around great family man and musician. You will be missed here in Detroit.
Precisely the year I was taking lessons from him. Godspeed, George.

George "Sax" Benson, yea!!! He and Buck Hlll of DC both held down jobs as US postal carriers when not gigging on their horns ;-)
Thanks for posting this.
Wow, I never heard of George Benson (sax) but he kills it. Great job on keys too Tom. I really enjoyed this video. Just curious where this gig was?
It was from a television program done for CBET-TV in Windsor, Ontario.
Very cool!
