@@HomeRepairTutor Yes I am, pretty much the same as here, kerdi shower with the kerdi shower bed and the rest of the floor in ditra. Thanks for your reply, I'll swing by if anything else comes to mind!
@@HomeRepairTutor I thought I would, but since I'm doing this on slab, I'll be pouring self-leveler, then making a mortar bed matching the height. Is Ditra (uncoupling) a good idea in this case, or would you just use kerdi mebrane over the mortar base?
Another good one guys, I did a 3 bathroom job about 4 months ago with the hex tiles, man what a headache they are to deal with lots of clips and patience lol
you’re totally right, and the tiles have to be very accurate otherwise it’ll be one crazy puzzle!!
Good tips
I use my utility knife with a fresh blade to clean the thinset. 1 swipe down each side of the tile and it's all nice and clean...then vac the joints. Then hit them with a damp scrub pad and then wipe down with a clean rag and vac once more if needed.
That glass track will have a nice clean look but the install makes me nervous. It is being installed under and abutting the tile work. So water running down the glass will flow directly down onto the membrane surface and be able to migrate along the membrane’s fleece layer. Kerdi fix will not waterproof against the fleece layer, it is for adhesion only. The Schluter membrane system needs tile work over it to be waterproof long term. It looks like a great idea but i think the implementation is flawed. I would feel better with the glass on top of the tile work, and keep screw penetrations to a minimum with sealant under the track and in the holes. Maybe coating with Ardex 8+9 over the Kerdi you would stand a chance of it being waterproof.
When installing the Deco SG, do I get it at the height of my tile or the height of the tile plus thinset?
Can you help me? I am doing a bathroom remodel. I have pre-sloped the majority of the two-layer plywood floor toward the shower drain (easy as the 110 year old house is completely warped.) I don't want to create an actual pan with a curb but to leave the shower open with a down-flowing shower head. I intend to tile the whole floor and walls so that any water just goes to the shower drain. I have redgard and 1/4" hardibacker. Should I put a shower pan liner and mortar in hardibacker on top of that? what should I do to accomplish this and what kind of drain should I use? Thanks

how do you redirect water with the linear drain(edge) curbless shower pan when the shower length is extended. It doesn't appear that the shower pan slopes the edges to the center regardless. 84" length on 76" pan with a 72" drain at the entry of the shower. Looks like the water can run straight past the edges of the drain if I match the dry pack with the current slope of the pan.
When you said waterproof 3 feet outside the shower, that was assuming there is no shower door? If using glass shower door positioned over/near the drain the additional 3 feet is not required correct? Great video btw!
we prefer to waterproof the entire bathroom floor with either an uncoupling membrane like Ditra, Ditra-Heat, Strata Mat or a liquid membrane like Hydro Ban or ShowerSeal.
Why is is necessary to waterproof the floor outside of the glass enclosure? Was just wondering. That section only sees a little bit of dripping when you're drying off
Few other things I would like to know. If dry pack will work to extend the shower, why not just make a back-to-front sloped pan out of 4000 psi tension rated GFRC without plasticizer and top coat it with some polymer thinset and Laticrete membrane? Seems like this could be made for next to nothing and save a ton of money by not needing a foam base.
What is the best adhesive to use to glue waterproof membrane to a stainless flange on a linear drain?
Where is the best place to buy linear drains? I need some that have the outlet not in the middle. It seems as though a damn floor joist is always in the way of a center placed drain outlet.
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher It's possible to use GFRC down to 1/4". You wouldn't want to use too much plasticizer so you can actually screed the GFRC. There's a fine line between how much of the 13mm long alkali resistant glass fibers and the amount of plasticizer to make a workable mix.
As far as the cost goes, those foam bases can get costly. I've also seen quite a few that are spongy, especially a few years after being installed and stepped on. I've seen prices on 60" 304 linear stainless drains with grates anywhere from $100 to $1000. Name brand companies are gouging people.
If I had any critique about your channel is that you concentrate too much on the correct methods and not enough on doing things right but on a budget. Out here in rural America, people can't afford to use a bunch of pre-engineered (read expensive) products. A shower needs to cost $1000, not $10,000.
So you put waterproof membrane over the dry pack onto the pan and band the dry pack to the walls to waterproof the floor, walls and joints?
correct and in this case we actually used Ditra-Heat mat...we'll show how that is done in an upcoming video
One thing I'm always confused about is attaching glass panels to the floor and walls. I know schluter has channels for glass, however it's difficult to align the floor and wall channels in the same plane. I assume you have covered this in other videos, are you going to talk about glass panel installation again?
@@richardmckrell4899 we will discuss Schluter's DECO-SG which is fantastic to glass panels. Using a laser level to install the channels helps a lot

using the same DECO-SG that’ll be on the floor, larger glass panels would get an accompanying support bar
I'm about to install a new shower and I'm looking to do what you did with the drain on the opposite side of the wall. I have the schluter pan with the linear drain. Does the drain have to go from wall to wall or will water still flow from side to drain. It's confusing because the pan has cut out markings for a drain that doesn't span the entire pan.

Hi, I am having a hard time understanding this. I have read that the slope for a curbless shower should be a minimum slope of 1/4" (0.25") and the maximum slope should be 1/2" (0.5") per foot. And this should be from the drainage out to all directions until the height of 2" is reached.
So follow the rule detailed above a curbless shower with a slope of 1/4" (0.25") should have a distance of 8'. 1/4" (slope) x 8' (distance) = 2" (shower pan height requirement).
If we follow the established rule with a 1/2" (0.25) slope then the distance should be 4'. 1/2" (slope) x 4' (distance) = 2" (shower pan height requirement)
What am I doing wrong here? Please help me understand this.

Why such push for Schluter products?
we like their new shower trays with the thin perimeter profile for curbless showers. But we also have plenty of other shower system installation videos 👍🏼
As a contractor when you find something that works for you why not stay with it. With that said, I use a mix of products in my showers: Schluter shower pan/drain, 1/2" Hardibacker for walls (ceilings 1/4"), Laticrete Hydroban for waterproofing. I can waterproof in half the time it takes to install Kerdi and I trust it more.
@@mediaadrenaline use kerdi board instead of 1/2" hardiebacker so much easier to cut, attach and watetproof.
