I"ve watched tons of videos but this was the ONE. Took notes and it gave me a perfect start, bounty hunter, parents, taskmaster, adoring fan for the free crew member. Thank you!@@Dantics
After watching several videos on character creation I feel like I'm alone in that the only thing I care about with backgrounds is how frequently unique dialogue comes up. I'm less concerned with what skills it starts me with in favor of a more roll play character creation.
Funny, this is the third video offering starting advice that I watched and they all have different suggestions for the "best or most useful" backgrounds, skills, and traits. If anything, this makes me more interested in getting into the game, because the differences indicate a variety of viable builds based on play style. Currently waiting for the Game Pass access before spending money on it, but I can see this as something that I would play for years.
Two videos in less than an hour to help an overthinker who has spent 5+ hours at character creation in other Bethesda games. Thank you this will help a ton. Edit: this helped a ton. Thinking Cyberunner with 3 of the 5 following for my first playthrough: Alien DNA, Dream Home, Kids Stuff, Taskmaster, and Wanted. Ill probably go Alien DNA, Taskmaster, and Wanted though. As im thinking my first playthrough now could be an outsider Cyberunner. Though Dreamhome and Kids stuff are super tempting due to them being so rare in other games. I was super torn between Bounty hunter and Soldier before this video... but how you commented on their use with the skill tree definitely shifted my opinion. Thank you again.
I've switched to making my character BEFORE getting the game. I create 3 or 4 characters, give each a reason to want to adventure, give them some personality quirks, and come up with a reasonable background. Then when the game drops, my character building turns into quickly selecting the traits and skills closest to my existing character. For example, I've created a Steve Jobs-like character. I named him Etienne Travial. He's driven to "Make a Dent in the Universe", so he'll jump at the main artifacts quest and join Constellation. He's: Introvert, Raised Enlightened, and a Taskmaster. He's interested in and very good at Tech, so he'll almost certainly use his skill upgrades on Tech.
Fantastic guide and thank you for doing this and keeping it spoiler free. I WANT to make mistakes in my first (and probably second) character build, but for those who don’t this is the best thing to look at before starting.
While this is a wonderfully made guide, I do want to point out for the sake of other's that it's already been confirmed that there is no level cap and, consequently, no skill point cap. So while these types of guides are still wonderful to have for people wanting to focus on things, it is important to note that despite the no respec, if you make a mistake it does not mean you wasted a skill point. It just means you'll have to push a bit more on leveling up to fix that mistake.
@@JohnVanderbeck Yes, but NG+ lets you keep your skills. My point was simply that making a few mistakes won't ruin a whole playthrough as you can fix them with a couple more levels.
Best video I found and exactly what I needed. Cyber runner-alien dna, dream home and kid stuff I’ve started with. Subscribed and thank you for a awesome video
its rare that I know 100% what i want to do with a first playthrough but definitely Bounty Hunter. Pirate/bounty Hunting is something i still occasionally enjoy in Elite Dangerous, and I spent probably 100 hours fully engineering my Federal Corvette (named the "Arch-Angel" after Garrus my favorite gaming character) to the point where she was almost invincible in PvE combat. I'm highly looking forward to an Arch Angel of my design to strike fear into pirates in this universe
Best Build: Background - Cyber Runner Traits - Kids Stuff, Adoring Fan and Wanted. No Joke, this will literally be easy XP Farming, HP Tanking and Weapon Performance.
So for those who might be several hours into their first play through: I recommend using mission quests if you chose a background you didn’t like very much if you don’t want to start over. I picked industrialist, played for about 16-17 hours, and decided I probably should have started with bounty hunter. However, with the addition of NG+ and the abundance of content, it’s not big enough of a deal to justify starting over. (Unless that’s what you want to do.) There is an abundance of “mission” quests and so much other content in the game that it’s not a big deal. I hope this makes sense. Enjoy!
I didn't watch this before making my character, but this is what I chose for my character: Background: Space Scoundrel Traits: * Neon Street Rat * Wanted * Hero Worshipped I only got to play for a couple hours before i had to go into work, but I'm excited to see what kind of chaos my character can cook up
Honestly chose long hauler for the head canon. I couldn't think of a realistic way of becoming a bounty hunter, then a miner, then apart if a exploration group😂
I picked soldier. Fitness is for carrying stuff after the kills. Which you always get over weight and run out of oxygen anyways. Fitness is how far you can run without running out of oxygen in a nut shell. File not found is a very very good trait I wish I would have started with. Because ballistics and piloting is 2 I must have for starting. I like ballistic weapons. And piloting is a must in starting game. The traits for starters 1. Terra Firma 2. Wanted I think these are 2 must have traits to start with. If traits don't change you can use the perk tree to reverse the negative effects and only have the buffs. I would definitely pick extrovert over introvert. That would axctually be my last pick. Thats my next play through build.
PSA there's two (Combat Medic and Cyber Runner) labels are transposed. The descriptions and video are correct but the top left label and chapter list selection is switched.
In regards to the gangster background sure the skill points are a little wonky but the gangster background dialogue options save you a lot of trouble in the long run so it's a trade-off crappy skills awesome dialogue options to get you out of hairy situations and bypass crappy Quest requirements
Being a chef would be better to focus on finding the l supplies to make and sale food items. Probably what they meant it to be. I don't know but you might be able to open up a store of that sort. Haven't got that far yet. Industry the security is to hide stuff on your ship and the persuasion is if you get caught you might go to talk your way out of it.
I'm definitely taking Wanted, and I'm assuming I'll do Bounty Hunter, but we'll see how I'm feeling when I can actually play. Being able to have people come to you for not only more XP but also their gear (and even potentially their ship) is highly underrated. Given I'll be immediately playing on the hardest difficulty right from the jump lol
Playing this game and loving it. I find that with the wanted trait I see more mercy off the regular path. So I randomly went to the North Pole of the first planet you can explore and ran into them twice
Great to see your coverage D. Not watching now, just support your efforts. Going into this one as blind as humanly possible. I'll be going nuts on all the info in about a month.
Wanted Neon Street Rat Cyber Runner with Alien DNA still seems like the Cyberpunk...er...Starfield character I wanna play first. Can't wait! Have to wait. For another hour and a half.
Long Hauler is VERY good for people that are going to be cargo haulers. Its never a bad thing to have more inventory. That is this games worst aspect: Inventory Management.
When i was in i believe cydonia, i found a doctor that offered to remove my traits like empath and Alien DNA if i didnt like them! I was too scared to go through with getting rid of them because i wasnt sure if they could be replaced with something else, but i kinda wanted to get rid of Alien DNA because the less healing (especially early game) was kinda annoying! But i would like it to get replaced! Any info on that??
First playthrough is going to be bounty hunter, freestar settler, kids stuff, and then either alien DNA or hero worshipped. I keep going back and forth on that one.
Thankyou so much for a highly detailed insight ! ! Sadly I won't be able to play starfield atleast for another 2months but I have added this to my gaming playlist! Legend 😋
Q? If you pick "Lasers" as a skill, does it mean like the laser cutter for rock or a laser blaster weapon that shoots laser bolts (like Star Wars) ? thanks
Dan , seeing as how I am still highly invested in the immersive escapism of the role playing experience of bg3 and am only halfway through on my first Playthru still overwhelmed with the amount of content and replayability there for the next year or years to come… I really need you to clarify for me your statement in the past few starfield uploads of having already gone through the game multiple times. On initial gut reaction of hearing this… It’s honestly not very reassuring. Lol. Obviously, I’m assuming that you’re speaking in terms of just running through the main story campaign with the Moore tunnel vision focus but I hope that this doesn’t entail the culmination of all these different activities or factions or side, quest and stuff to the degree that you were able to complete it multiple times Already. Granted you’ve had it I assume a couple weeks as well, but please alleviate my fear that when I jump on starfield… I’m not gonna finish it in a few days. 😂
Hey fam, could you do a video showcase of all the melee weapons of the game? Nobody seems to bother with them. I like the guns and all, but I'd like to see if I'd like melee in this game as opposed to the Fallout games.
I’m not sure if you can easily edit this in the video but the banner at the top of the screen for cyber runner and combat medic are switched!! I also understand if no one cares but me haha
This is exactly what I wanted with no real spoilers. Well done.
It's surprisingly hard to make it spoiler free, glad you appreciate it.

Thank you for the in-depth character guide.
Can't wait to finally play Starfield later tonight.
30 minutes!
Such a great character creation guide without any spoilers! Keep up the great content!
I'm gonna love what new Backgrounds and Traits get added by modders, the alternate start mods are essentials in Bethesda game I play.
Anyone else spend 20 mins mining all of the ore in the tutorial?
Missed that opportunity, but I picked up every item in the rooms.
After watching several videos on character creation I feel like I'm alone in that the only thing I care about with backgrounds is how frequently unique dialogue comes up. I'm less concerned with what skills it starts me with in favor of a more roll play character creation.
I can literally be boba fett already 10/10
This is the best starfield video out currently
7 hours to go!! I am beyond excited!
I think I'm going to prioritize RP over stats. First playthrough will be space scoundrel for sure.

OOF... Thank you so much for this. 6 hours to go and I can get a idea of how I want to make my character before loading the game.

Same I love the rp of soldier but bounty hunter seems more practical since shooting and fitness comes over time anyway
Fantastic guide and thank you for doing this and keeping it spoiler free. I WANT to make mistakes in my first (and probably second) character build, but for those who don’t this is the best thing to look at before starting.
Adoring fan never judges you & he seems to have decent combat AI. Those alone make him worth it.
Feeling a little overwhelmed about jumping into Starfield and figuring it all out. This is helpful though, guess I'll just take it as it comes.
Time for Stealth Archer 2: Space Boogaloo!
Great review, love this and it’s got me even more stoked for playing tonight.

Dude I’m not exaggerating, space scoundrel is exactly what I want in a build.
Helped a lot. I'm pretty sold now on Homesteader with Kid Stuff, Raised Enlightened and Dream Home. Now just to spend hours working on my face. 😆
That is awesome! Don't spend too long there!

I was hoping that "file not found" meant you could choose the skills.
That woulda kinda remove the point
Maybe, but if the files not found how can it have preset skills?
What an incredible depth of character creation
I’m away from home until the end of the month but man I am looking forward sooo much to locking myself in my room for a few days and play this 🎉

Excellent review, thank you 👍👍👍
Q? If you pick "Lasers" as a skill, does it mean like the laser cutter for rock or a laser blaster weapon that shoots laser bolts (like Star Wars) ? thanks
This game locks so much good content behind skills, it’s immensely frustrating and I hope it will be sanely modded out ASAP.
