This recipe is AMAZING! I made it yesterday. My husband (who is Greek by the way) loved it and asked if I could make it again around Christmas when his parents will come to visit us from Thessaloniki
Thank you, sir! I heard about this cake from a chef in Romania. He sad : When I eat portokalopita, a tear appears on my cheek. So, I open YT...found your recipe, I make it this evening...and I confess: It is an amazing cake. The most portocal flavor ever taste. Thank you, sir!
Lovely!!! Sure is Great! I love Spanakopita and all kinds of Greek Pies with Cheese!!! I love the way how Greeks eat salad with cheese on top before lunch!!! I was eating these at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Toronto!!!
Hi Akis, I totally agree with you, I also think if you cook with love, it won't matter how unique is the receipe, it will always turnout amazing. Like they say, you gotta love what you do 😊 so thanks for all you do!!!!!
I made this for my husband's birthday while we were all home bound during COVID 19. It was fabulous and made us feel very connected to Greece.Thank you for your recipes!
I first tried this cake in Greece and loved it. Was sursprised to find that it was made with filo pastry! This is such a good recipe and everyone loved it. Cake turned out really moist and just like the one I had in Greece. I reduced sugar in both the syrup and cake as I usually prefer my dessert less sweet. I reduced the sugar in the syrup by half and would still consider it a sweet dessert. Also, I recommend piercing the cake(found this tip in other recipes) to help the syrup soak through the cake.
Thank you Zara, I always look for less sweet (but still delicious) versions of my favorite desserts and I found your comment really useful. I'll try and drastically reduce sugar myself here too. Thank you and thank you Akis for all the amazing recipes!
I are Portokalopita every day when we visited Greece in Mykonos, Crete and Santorini and after making Akis recipe last night this tasted on par if not better than what i was eating in the aforementioned islands. I will be making this again to share with friends. @Akis Petrezikis keep up the great work.
Portokalopita (Greek orange cake) is truly amazing. I have my own special recipe version that I carry from a Greek grandmother. It's so good that people in my family, outside family, friends, many people in my work environment are still asking to make it, or asking me if my birthday comes soon :D. One of my most prized recipes. Love Greek cuisine. Not only truly delicious, but so diverse and filled with secrets.
Please share a secret or two, I am definitely trying this. Akis is great, but I firmly believe your grandma had thousands of tricks up her sleeves. I know mine does but I'm not Greek ;-)
It looks delicious and it IS delicious! I had an opportunity to try it, it was made by the hands of my dear Greek friend Charoula.I will remember that first bite forever! Thank you for this video and greetings from Serbia! 🇷🇸❤️🇬🇷
oooh I discovered this cake last week in Naxos on holiday. And had it almost every day - totally addicted. I couldn't work out the unusual texture - would never have guessed that it's basically a custard with dehydrated file crumbs in it.
My man, I love the look of your food and your teaching style. You've got some real personality, as well as an undeniable flair for cookery. Actually, I have some Greek blood in me too (my family, on my grandfather's side, is from the southern portion of Cyprus), and learning to make some of the Greek classics is one way for me to familiarise myself with my roots again. For me, your recipe here is amongst your most mouth-watering, and one thing's for sure, I'm gonna be noshing on it real soon! Thank you for all your efforts, for bringing Greek cuisine to a wider audience, and for inspiring people like me to feel more integrated. In a few year's time, I hope to return to the land of my ancestors. But for now, I can serve up some good old memories by way of your authentic and delicious recipes. Efharisto
This recipe has become my siganture dessert, for the decoration i add orange slices on the top before putting in the oven, and I cook for 1h-1h20. The oranges on the top get some colour and look fantastic. I also use half the sugar and its still sweet!
Tu cosa hai utilizzato? Ti sarei grata se mi rispondessi . Grazie mille.
Hi! Half the sugar In total, and sometimes i only put 150gr+150gr or 200+200 A tip: squeeze your own orange juice For the syrup, makes a big difference compared to store bought juice (even bio)
Ah kardeşim Akis sevgiler. 2 gün önce Atina da kaldigim otelde tattım. Ve bayıldım bu lezzete. Ertesi gün pastaneden alırım diye çıktım kapanmıştı. Ve uçağım erken saate değişince yiyemeden Türkiye ye döndüm. Simdi sayende hemen tarifi not alıyorum ve en kısa sürede burada yapacagim. Tesekkurler sevgiler ❤
hi Alex i live here in Chicago and although I am not Greek there is a big community of Greeks in Halsted avenue lined with Greek restaurants. I have never heard of this dessert but I watched this video and I got so hungry. I am going there an I am sure they have this dessert. There is also a greek grocery in Lawrence avenue so I will buy all the ingredients there so I can make one this weekend. Your show is awesome and I have been watching. Btw I did already the pork chops with potatoes. Thank you very much.
I love this recipe so much I live with my husband in Cyprus and we both love this recipe of orange cake and this recipe is the best orange cake I’ve taste and I decided to make it and I watch your video and it so easy to do thank you so much and love from Cyprus 🇨🇾🇬🇷
I was preparing one type of it, was ok till I tried one in bakery shop in Θεσσαλονίκη, superb taste and texture. So I found your video, and seams that's it. Will try it. Ευχαριστώ!
Amazing recipe!!! Thank you!!! I tried it vegan - without eggs (one table spoon of amidon or vegan egg for each chicken egg) and with vegetal milk and it also was truly delicious 🤩
So I made your recipe yesterday for Christmas and it was a big hit! It was the most delicious cake I ever had in a very long time. It took me back to greece❤
The recipe I had is different, but the ingredients are the same. I baked it many times in my greek deli shop and customers loved it. Congrats for your wonderful channel!
Bonjour. Yvvie - Nantes, France.
Cake, indeed!!! Yummmm I made it. Intensely orange. Excellent. Needs a scoop of Vanilla ice cream. Eating it warm. soooo good. The kitchen smells like orange heaven too. I will make it again.
Had the best one kefalonia island innporos called Olive Garden and Eleni made lemon also. Im Serbian and knew immediately those were phyllo sheets we call them kore! Now I see the recipe is the sheets😅 delicious one of the tastiest desserts! Bravo you cook and bake nicely and nice looking man!
I did it Akis ❤ Efharisto from Canada and Serbia!! Wish I could send a picture! It tastes just like the pie I ate in my beloved Kefalonia. Making another recipe of yours tomorrow!
Akis, try adding some poppy seeds to the batter. It makes a crunchy difference and it does not change the taste. One of my best friends did it and it was so delicious!!! Love your recipes, love to see you cook, love to cook what you cook!!!
I just made it and it was super delicious. I like so much presence of the orange flavor. Only thing it was tiny bit too sweet for my taste. But you can regulate that with the amount of sirup you put in, or the amount of sugar put in the sirup.
Wow, this is so unique ! (Btw, i bought Greek Olive oil and a few jars of Greek olives today. It really is the best quality) I wonder if Akis makes this cake for all his girlfriends ?
I just love this cake, I tried for the first time in Athens and my girlfriend recommend me your recipe. I will try it soon and give you a feed back! I am just looking forward to try it with a coup of vainilla ice cream!
This is very similar to an orange cake I’ve been making for many years. The major difference really is I don’t put the syrup on top. I’ll give the syrup a go I think 😊
Great recepy! When i was in Thsaloniki i tasted great chocolate cake, with liquid chocolate inside, it was amazing, unfortunately i don't know the name of that desert. Maybe someone knows? Bravo shef! Jasas!love Greece!

What oil is the "seed oil" listed in the recipe?
😋Looks scrumptious - can't wait to try! Will Greek honey work in the syrup instead of granulated sugar?
Yes! 😀
This is very similar to an orange cake I’ve been making for many years. The major difference really is I don’t put the syrup on top. I’ll give the syrup a go I think 😊
