The SECRET to strong PULL/CHIN UPS!

- In this video, I want to explain how the shape of your ribcage can influence which type of vertical pull feels good for you, whether you should grip wide or narrow, and whether you should use pull-ups or chin-ups as your competition lift.
I was first introduced to these concepts by Dr.Pad Davidsons' book 'A Coach's Guide to Optimizing Movement'. I tried to transfer these concepts to street lifting and the result is this video.

very informative video, thanks for sharing such knowledge for free
You are welcome!
Coach, you are amazing 👏 love these type of video content
Best pull up information video!
Thanks!
Fantastic video, I've been wondering why there doesn't seem to be a consensus among pull vs chins being stronger among individuals - this is far and away the best video on this topic!
Thanks! It’s a bit of an experimental approach to the topic, but very interesting theory to dive into!
Great stuff
Ich habe dieses Video eingeschaltet, um meine Laune zu verbessern, und jetzt kann ich nicht mehr aufhören. Lachen ist der beste Heiler
Indeed a very informative video. I never heard of this, but it makes so much sense. Now I understand why narrow grip chin ups are the thing for me. I do have a wide flat chest, probably due to years of yoga breathing (with breath pause) with an emphasis on chest expansion.
Another very Insightful video from Micha
keep the good
work!
Quality content as always 💯💯
Thanks!🙏
Fantastic info
noted.thanks
Very good video bro thank you
I really dont understand lol. So youre saying that the wider space between ribs are = wide and if your ribs are closer together then narrow? Or opposite
Summary is at the end of video, just rewatch it ✅🙏
What about neutral grip? Are they easier than both?
And if you are also focused on the frontlever we should do shoulder with chins for the carry over right?
Awesome content 🔥💯
Probably not too big of a difference between the lifts, use the grip that offers you more progression in the long run and that feels better
@@MichaSchulz thank you very much 👌🏻
That is very interesting! I wonder how the ribcage would affect skills like the planche or the front lever. My ribcage is 3 times wider than it is thick, and i've always had trouble with protraction exercises.
Yes that is normal! Planche regression would still help, as they work your serratus which is a „lateral compressor“
Are there any benefits for streetlfiting doing the pull up with a neutral grip?
Only as a substitute if pull/chin provides temporary discomfort
But do you know if neutral grip is easier or harder than supinated and pronated, for most people?
But does the external rotation of the scapula not happen much if the grip is narrow??
What is the intention of your question?
@@MichaSchulz I want to just know about it because I don't know much about biomechanics
No, the narrow grip doesn’t promote external rotation in the scapular, but in the shoulder especially with narrow chin up grips
What are your thoughts about thumb over or under bar for pull ups? For me thumb over feels better.
Also do you think it’s possible for me to get a 100kg pull up? I am 17 and my 1rm is 50kg. I have been training for 2 years but I haven’t done much weighted pull up training until recently.
Hey! If that feels better, very good!
I have no clue, but I think you can influence the outcome the most. Stick to the training and future will tell. Best of luck for the journey 💪🏻
How much do you weigh but 50kg is great you can definitely track 60+ with consistent training
@@chandansimms9167i weigh 73kg
@@chandansimms9167I weigh 73kg and is 184cm
@@chandansimms9167I weigh 73kg, and is 184cm
been training weighted pullups for 2 years ++ but stuck at 30kg, which is sad because most people would breeze through that weight early in their training. Any tips?
Not really as I don't know anything about your training =D
Wie teuer ist dein Coaching Micha?
Buch dir gerne ein Erstgespräch, dann stell ich dir alle Optionen vor 🙏
That skeleton is so funny 😂
Does this amply to rows?
Rows is a too wide category of exercises to generalize this
With too wide a grip shoulder addiction will be performed as opposed to shoulder extension with a more narrow grip
